[00:01] Session two seven mental laws the.
[00:04] Session two seven mental laws the starting point of self-knowledge is to.
[00:06] Starting point of self-knowledge is to recognize this wonderful fact is that.
[00:08] Recognize this wonderful fact is that you are extraordinary you are unique the.
[00:12] You are extraordinary you are unique the odds against there being someone exactly.
[00:14] Odds against there being someone exactly like you are over 50 billion to one that.
[00:17] Like you are over 50 billion to one that every single part of your body and.
[00:18] Every single part of your body and anatomists and physiologists and doctors.
[00:20] Anatomists and physiologists and doctors have demonstrated that your blood.
[00:22] Have demonstrated that your blood composition is different from any other.
[00:24] Composition is different from any other person that has ever lived your.
[00:25] Person that has ever lived your fingerprints are different your limp.
[00:27] Fingerprints are different your limp prints are different even your ear.
[00:28] Prints are different even your ear prints are different even your tow.
[00:30] Prints are different even your tow prints are different from anybody that.
[00:31] Prints are different from anybody that has ever lived you are different from.
[00:34] Has ever lived you are different from anyone else and self-knowledge begins.
[00:35] Anyone else and self-knowledge begins with accepting that you are a unique and.
[00:38] Special individual and that you have the capacity to do something wonderful with.
[00:40] Capacity to do something wonderful with your life now that being said you are.
[00:42] Your life now that being said you are also the same as everybody else with.
[00:45] Also the same as everybody else with respect to certain basic principles.
[00:48] Respect to certain basic principles throughout the history of mankind the.
[00:50] Throughout the history of mankind the most intelligent men and women who have.
[00:53] Most intelligent men and women who have ever lived have sought answers to the.
[00:54] Ever lived have sought answers to the question of the human dilemma what can.
[00:56] Question of the human dilemma what can people do in order to change the quality.
[00:59] People do in order to change the quality.
[01:01] people do in order to change the quality of their lives their relationships and.
[01:04] of their lives their relationships and their results the great philosophers the.
[01:06] their results the great philosophers the great metaphysicians the great Scholars.
[01:08] great metaphysicians the great Scholars have pondered over this sometimes for.
[01:10] have pondered over this sometimes for their entire lifetimes in our Century I.
[01:13] their entire lifetimes in our Century I know men and women who spent 10 20 30 40.
[01:15] know men and women who spent 10 20 30 40 even 50 years studying success and.
[01:17] even 50 years studying success and achievement to find out what general.
[01:20] achievement to find out what general rules and principles we can draw upon to.
[01:22] rules and principles we can draw upon to be more successful the first thing that.
[01:25] be more successful the first thing that we have to start with the basis for this.
[01:26] we have to start with the basis for this entire course the psychology of.
[01:28] entire course the psychology of achievement is this is that you are a.
[01:31] achievement is this is that you are a mental creature the only thing that.
[01:33] mental creature the only thing that makes you truly unique is your mind.
[01:37] makes you truly unique is your mind everything else you have in common as.
[01:39] everything else you have in common as Eugene O'Neal the playwright said with a.
[01:41] Eugene O'Neal the playwright said with a horse or a pig your mind is what makes.
[01:44] horse or a pig your mind is what makes you unique your body simply carries your.
[01:46] you unique your body simply carries your mind around and just as electricity.
[01:49] mind around and just as electricity works on laws of electricity and physics.
[01:51] works on laws of electricity and physics works on laws of physics and nature.
[01:53] works on laws of physics and nature Works in laws of nature there are.
[01:55] Works in laws of nature there are certain mental laws that determine.
[01:58] certain mental laws that determine everything that happens to you you and.
[02:00] everything that happens to you you and these mental laws are as inexorable as.
[02:03] These mental laws are as inexorable as the laws of gravity.
[02:05] They work 100% of the time.
[02:07] And every single success you have in life comes from living your life in harmony with basic mental laws.
[02:12] And every problem or difficulty you ever have in life comes from living your life out of harmony with those basic laws.
[02:16] Now mental laws work 100% of the time like gravity works 100% of the time.
[02:19] What they say what it means is that if you step off a 10-story building in the city where you're living or in London, England or in Lima, Peru, you're going to go splat on the sidewalk.
[02:33] Whether you know about gravity, whether you believe in gravity, whether you agree with gravity or whether gravity is convenient for you, it's going to work on you nonetheless.
[02:45] The mental laws are exactly the same.
[02:46] And in this course I'm going to introduce you to about 20 mental laws, some of which are more important than others, but all of which it is critical for you to understand.
[02:56] Now let's start with the first of the mental laws.
[02:57] The first mental law, by the way, these laws have been written about and studied for century after century.
[03:03] studied for Century after century and many of them have been tested in our
[03:04] many of them have been tested in our leading universities research institutes
[03:07] leading universities research institutes and think tanks in the last few years
[03:09] and think tanks in the last few years and found to be as true as they'd ever
[03:11] and found to be as true as they'd ever been imagined to be the first law is
[03:14] been imagined to be the first law is what we call the law of control now the
[03:17] what we call the law of control now the law of control is very simple it's the
[03:20] law of control is very simple it's the basic law and we'll come back to it over
[03:21] basic law and we'll come back to it over and over again it says simply this it
[03:24] and over again it says simply this it says that you feel good about yourself
[03:27] says that you feel good about yourself you feel positive about yourself to the
[03:30] you feel positive about yourself to the degree to which you feel you are in
[03:31] degree to which you feel you are in control of your own life or you feel
[03:34] control of your own life or you feel negative about yourself to the degree to
[03:37] negative about yourself to the degree to which you feel you are not in control of
[03:39] which you feel you are not in control of your own life all you have to do is look
[03:41] your own life all you have to do is look at your life today and ask yourself what
[03:43] at your life today and ask yourself what parts of your life do you feel the best
[03:44] at what parts of the life do feel your
[03:46] life do feel your life do feel most in control you will
[03:48] find those are the places where you are the happiest and since the Supreme human
[03:50] the happiest and since the Supreme human good is to achieve a state of Happiness
[03:52] good is to achieve a state of Happiness which is expressed in peace of mind and
[03:55] which is expressed in peace of mind and health and loving relationships control
[03:57] health and loving relationships control is absolutely essential psychologists
[03:59] is absolutely essential psychologists today call this the difference between
[04:03] Today call this the difference between an internal locus of control which is an internal locus of control which is feeling that you're in charge of your own life versus an external locus of control which means the feeling that something outside of you your bills your relationships your job your health are somehow controlling you as a matter of fact locus of control research and there are many tests that you can take to determine where you are on this chart in terms of of control and what areas of your life you feel more in control and less in control people with a very high internal locus of control are high Achievers they are more successful they're more self-determined they're happier and many of things we're trying to do in this course is to give you a far greater sense of control of being in charge of every aspect of your life now control begins with first of all your thoughts interestingly enough your thoughts what you think about things and how you think determines your values it determines what is going on inside you once they are stored away your thoughts determine your feelings.
[05:06] your thoughts determine your feelings it's how you think about something that determines your feelings
[05:09] whether you are happy or unhappy whether you are scared or uh confident your feelings then determine your actions
[05:18] so we start off with a law of control saying that the key to success is to feel that you are the master of your own destiny
[05:24] that you're behind the steering wheel of your own life you're in charge of your life
[05:30] by taking full and complete control over your thoughts your thoughts will control your feelings
[05:34] your feelings will control your actions and your actions remember there always your actions will determine your success or your lack thereof
[05:41] so the law of control is important now as opposed to the law of control we have what is called the law of accident
[05:49] now the law of accident is really a metaphysical principle it is only a law like a traffic law or like a legal law to the degree to which we live by it consistently
[06:01] the law of accident is what about 80% of the population live by plus or minus the law of accident simply says
[06:07] or minus the law of accident simply says that by failing to plan you're planning to fail.
[06:09] that by failing to plan you're planning to fail failing to plan is planning to fail.
[06:13] failing to plan is planning to fail now the majority of people don't believe that they're living by this.
[06:16] now the majority of people don't believe that they're living by this but if you look at their lives you see that that's true.
[06:19] but if you look at their lives you see that that's true failing to plan means planning to fail.
[06:22] failing to plan means planning to fail these are the sort of people that say well it's not what you know it's who you know.
[06:25] it's who you know it's being in the right place place at the right time.
[06:27] it's being in the right place place at the right time it's it's luck it's the luck of the draw and so on.
[06:29] it's the luck of the draw and so on these are people who as a result of feeling that their life is controlled by forces outside themselves don't have clear plans.
[06:34] these are people who as a result of feeling that their life is controlled by forces outside themselves don't have clear plans don't have clear goals do are not working persistently and consistently day by day toward accomplishing something they want.
[06:38] don't have clear goals do are not working persistently and consistently day by day toward accomplishing something they want and their lives just seem to drift and go around in circle like a ship without a Rudder.
[06:43] and their lives just seem to drift and go around in circle like a ship without a Rudder now a person just like a ship without a Rudder A person with no Central plan is a person who has very little control.
[06:46] A person with no Central plan is a person who has very little control as a person who feel feels that in fact they are out of control of their lives like they're falling through space with no place to to stop.
[06:50] as a person who feel feels that in fact they are out of control of their lives like they're falling through space with no place to to stop and these people are invariably unhappy.
[06:53] and these people are invariably unhappy the reason why people are
[07:07] Unhappy the reason why people are negative today the reason why people are negative today the reason why people are unhappy the reason why people are sick.
[07:10] Unhappy the reason why people are sick and frustrated the reason why people and frustrated the reason why people underachieve in life is most of them are underachieve in life is most of them are living by this law of accident and in so doing they have no sense of control over their lives.
[07:17] Living by this law of accident and in so doing they have no sense of control over their lives they have no sense of inner peace they have no sense of happiness and so on.
[07:25] And so on so we are going to show you how to free yourself from the law of accident.
[07:29] Personally or per or permanently now the next law is what is called the law of cause and effect.
[07:36] Is what is called the law of cause and effect the law of cause and effect says that for every effect in your life there is a specific cause that everything that happens in the universe happens for a reason that nothing happens by accident.
[07:51] That failure does not happen by accident and success does not happen by accident that happiness or lack of Happiness are a result of cause and effect relationships.
[07:57] That if we you have an effect in your life that you want to have more of more success more money more happiness Better Health you can trace it back to a cause and what you do is you repeat and duplicate the
[08:08] You do is you repeat and duplicate the cause if you have an effect in your life.
[08:10] Cause if you have an effect in your life that you want to have less of.
[08:11] If you have problems, difficulties, and so on, you can also trace that back to a cause.
[08:16] All progress in human life and human society stems back from identifying the causes of what we want more of or less of and changing the causes.
[08:25] Now the law of cause and effect, of course, is the iron law of the universe.
[08:28] This is the law, if you like, that we can come back to over and over again.
[08:31] And many of our laws are paraphrases of the iron law.
[08:35] It's also called The Law of sewing and reaping.
[08:36] That where soever you sow, that also shall you reap.
[08:38] But the iron law, the law of cause and effect, gives us a complete sense of control if we believe that there's a cause and effect relationship.
[08:47] That everything happens for a reason, then we have a tremendous feeling of control in our lives.
[08:50] We can identify the causes, we can duplicate the causes, we can make our lives anything we want.
[08:56] The most important application of the law of cause and effect is this: it is that thoughts are causes.
[09:03] Thoughts are causes and conditions are effects.
[09:10] effects C thoughts are causes and conditions are simply effects the
[09:13] conditions are simply effects the starting point of everything is your
[09:15] starting point of everything is your thoughts about something it's your
[09:17] thoughts about something it's your thoughts about a job your thoughts about
[09:18] thoughts about a job your thoughts about a relationship your thoughts about your
[09:20] a relationship your thoughts about your health your thoughts about your future
[09:21] health your thoughts about your future your thoughts become causitive agents
[09:24] your thoughts become causitive agents the conditions become the effects that
[09:26] the conditions become the effects that if you wish to change any of the
[09:27] if you wish to change any of the conditions of your life you have to
[09:29] conditions of your life you have to change the thoughts that precede those
[09:32] change the thoughts that precede those conditions you have to change what is
[09:33] conditions you have to change what is going on in your mind now wonderfully
[09:36] going on in your mind now wonderfully enough there's only one thing in the
[09:37] enough there's only one thing in the whole universe over which you have
[09:39] whole universe over which you have complete control and that is your
[09:42] complete control and that is your thoughts so if you take full and
[09:44] thoughts so if you take full and complete control over your thoughts and
[09:46] complete control over your thoughts and keep your thoughts on what it is you
[09:48] keep your thoughts on what it is you want make them positive causes the
[09:50] want make them positive causes the conditions or effects will take care of
[09:52] conditions or effects will take care of themselves with the
[09:53] themselves with the inexorability of a law of nature now the
[09:57] inexorability of a law of nature now the next law is what is called the law of
[10:00] next law is what is called the law of belief the law of
[10:02] belief the law of belief simply
[10:04] belief simply says that whatever you believe with
[10:09] says that whatever you believe with feeling and this is the key with feeling
[10:11] feeling and this is the key with feeling and the more emotion you put into a
[10:13] and the more emotion you put into a belief becomes your
[10:15] belief becomes your reality it becomes your reality because
[10:18] reality it becomes your reality because you will always act in a manner
[10:19] you will always act in a manner consistent with your beliefs as a matter
[10:21] consistent with your beliefs as a matter of fact your entire reality right now is
[10:23] of fact your entire reality right now is simply a out outward picturing of your
[10:27] simply a out outward picturing of your most intensely held beliefs if you
[10:29] most intensely held beliefs if you believe something that is positive or
[10:31] believe something that is positive or believe something that is negative or as
[10:32] believe something that is negative or as Henry Ford said if you believe you can
[10:33] Henry Ford said if you believe you can do a thing or if you believe you cannot
[10:36] do a thing or if you believe you cannot you are right our beliefs do form our
[10:38] you are right our beliefs do form our realities to the degree to which we
[10:40] realities to the degree to which we believe anything to be true our beliefs
[10:43] believe anything to be true our beliefs act as sort of like a screen uh they
[10:45] act as sort of like a screen uh they filter out any information that is
[10:48] filter out any information that is inconsistent with our beliefs we have a
[10:49] inconsistent with our beliefs we have a deep down desire inside of us to remain
[10:52] deep down desire inside of us to remain consistent so we're always trying to
[10:54] consistent so we're always trying to view our world rationalize our world
[10:56] view our world rationalize our world interpret our world so that it is
[10:58] interpret our world so that it is consistent what with with what we have
[10:59] consistent what with with what we have already decided to believe we develop
[11:01] already decided to believe we develop what is called scotomas a sketa is a
[11:04] what is called scotomas a sketa is a word in Psychology that simply says that
[11:07] word in Psychology that simply says that we develop blind spots we do not see
[11:10] we develop blind spots we do not see opportunities if we are convinced that
[11:12] opportunities if we are convinced that there are no opportunities we do not see.
[11:14] there are no opportunities we do not see possibilities for success if we don't.
[11:16] possibilities for success if we don't believe that success is possible for us.
[11:18] believe that success is possible for us however if we begin to change our.
[11:19] however if we begin to change our beliefs we begin to change our realities.
[11:23] beliefs we begin to change our realities let me give you an example uh there's a.
[11:25] let me give you an example uh there's a story of a young man who came from a.
[11:28] story of a young man who came from a small Midwestern town it's true story.
[11:30] small Midwestern town it's true story was reported in the psychological.
[11:31] was reported in the psychological journals a couple of years ago he got.
[11:34] journals a couple of years ago he got straight A all through junior high.
[11:36] straight A all through junior high school and high school at the end of the.
[11:37] school and high school at the end of the 12th grade he wrote his Scholastic.
[11:40] 12th grade he wrote his Scholastic achievement test to go to university a.
[11:41] achievement test to go to university a few weeks later he got back a letter.
[11:43] few weeks later he got back a letter from the University saying you have.
[11:44] from the University saying you have scored 98 on the Scholastic achievement.
[11:46] scored 98 on the Scholastic achievement test then you're hereby admitted to the.
[11:48] test then you're hereby admitted to the university for the fall semester well he.
[11:50] university for the fall semester well he didn't know very much about Scholastic.
[11:52] didn't know very much about Scholastic achievement test and he thought that the.
[11:54] achievement test and he thought that the 98 was an IQ score now an IQ score of.
[11:58] 98 was an IQ score now an IQ score of 998 is slight L below average and is.
[12:00] 998 is slight L below average and is about 20 points below what is necessary.
[12:02] about 20 points below what is necessary for college level work he was convinced.
[12:05] for college level work he was convinced and he just discarded his entire High.
[12:06] and he just discarded his entire High School career all the age that he's.
[12:08] School career all the age that he's gotten he was convinced that he could.
[12:09] gotten he was convinced that he could not do college level work but he went.
[12:11] not do college level work but he went off to college in the fall after the.
[12:13] off to college in the fall after the first semester he was failing or nearly.
[12:15] first semester he was failing or nearly failing in every.
[12:16] failing in every subject his counselor called him in and.
[12:18] subject his counselor called him in and said what seems to be the problem you uh.
[12:21] said what seems to be the problem you uh did extremely well in high school these.
[12:22] did extremely well in high school these courses are only one degree of.
[12:24] courses are only one degree of difficulty uh removed from your high.
[12:26] difficulty uh removed from your high school courses are you having problems.
[12:27] school courses are you having problems with uh girls or having problems with.
[12:29] with uh girls or having problems with drugs uh having problems adjusting what.
[12:31] drugs uh having problems adjusting what is it he said well sir he said I'm doing.
[12:33] is it he said well sir he said I'm doing the very best I can but you can't blame.
[12:34] the very best I can but you can't blame me I've only got a 98 IQ and the.
[12:37] me I've only got a 98 IQ and the counselor had a file in front of me said.
[12:39] counselor had a file in front of me said what are you talking about he said well.
[12:41] what are you talking about he said well in my letter of admission to the.
[12:42] in my letter of admission to the university it said that I got a 98 on.
[12:44] university it said that I got a 98 on the Scholastic achievement test he said.
[12:46] the Scholastic achievement test he said son that's not an IQ he said he said.
[12:48] son that's not an IQ he said he said they said that's not an IQ that is a.
[12:50] they said that's not an IQ that is a percentile what that means is that you.
[12:52] percentile what that means is that you scored equal to or higher than 98%.
[12:55] scored equal to or higher than 98% of the students in the country who wrote.
[12:58] the students in the country who wrote that test you're one of the brightest.
[12:59] that test you're one of the brightest kids in this University while this young.
[13:01] kids in this University while this young guy went out he checked on the.
[13:02] guy went out he checked on the Scholastic achievement test he found it.
[13:04] Scholastic achievement test he found it was true that the 98 was a percentile.
[13:07] was true that the 98 was a percentile not an IQ he went back to his courses.
[13:09] not an IQ he went back to his courses and two years later he was in the top 10.
[13:11] and two years later he was in the top 10 in a 30,000 student University he was.
[13:14] In a 30,000 student university, he was leading in all of his classes.
[13:16] Once he changed his reality, once he changed his beliefs about his intelligence.
[13:18] His reality changed automatically.
[13:20] Now, an important point with regard to this is that every one of us has self-limiting beliefs.
[13:25] Every one of us believes ourselves to be limited in some way.
[13:28] Every one of us believes ourselves to be limited in intelligence, creativity, money-making ability.
[13:31] "I can't sell, I can't speak in front of audiences."
[13:34] We tend to think that we are not capable, being on time, we're not mechanically inclined and so on and so forth.
[13:40] But exhaustive research demonstrates that talents are pretty evenly spread throughout the population.
[13:46] That most of the limitations we have do not exist in reality.
[13:51] They exist only in your own mind.
[13:55] And one of the starting points of great achievement is to start questioning those self-limiting beliefs and throw them off.
[13:59] And act as if they did not exist.
[14:01] And when you act as if they didn't exist, lo and behold, they simply disappear.
[14:06] Okay, the next law is what is called the law of expectations.
[14:09] Now the
[14:14] called the law of expectations now the law of expectations is a law that has
[14:16] law of expectations is a law that has been talked about throughout all of
[14:18] been talked about throughout all of human history just like in the law of
[14:19] human history just like in the law of belief law of belief William James of
[14:21] belief law of belief William James of harvy said belief creates the actual
[14:23] harvy said belief creates the actual fact as a man thinketh in his heart or
[14:25] fact as a man thinketh in his heart or as he believeth so is he the law of
[14:27] as he believeth so is he the law of expectations over and over is what you
[14:29] expectations over and over is what you expect you get you get not what you want
[14:31] but what you expect that your
[14:34] but what you expect that your expectations especially your
[14:36] expectations especially your expectations about outcomes how you
[14:38] expectations about outcomes how you think things are going to turn out
[14:40] think things are going to turn out become your own self-fulfilling
[14:43] become your own self-fulfilling prophecies and Dr Robert rosenfall of of
[14:46] prophecies and Dr Robert rosenfall of of Harvard University has done something
[14:48] Harvard University has done something like 300 experiments on expectations
[14:52] like 300 experiments on expectations theory on what is called experiment or
[14:53] theory on what is called experiment or Theory and he finds that your
[14:55] Theory and he finds that your expectations have an effect on other
[14:57] expectations have an effect on other people and EV events and
[15:00] people and EV events and circumstances even if your expectations
[15:02] circumstances even if your expectations are based on totally false information
[15:05] are based on totally false information whatever you expect with confidence in
[15:08] other words if you confidently expect
[15:09] other words if you confidently expect good things to happen surprise surprise
[15:12] good things to happen surprise surprise good things happen to you if you
[15:13] good things happen to you if you confidently expect negative things to
[15:15] confidently expect negative things to happen then negative things are going to happen.
[15:17] then negative things are going to happen to you.
[15:19] that most successful people have developed an attitude of confidently expecting good things to happen.
[15:20] uh it's called the attitude of positive.
[15:25] the winner looks for good things to happen.
[15:30] the winner expects to win in advance.
[15:33] and lo and behold whatever you expect with confidence tends to come true.
[15:37] even if the information upon which your expectations is based is totally false.
[15:42] now let me give you an example of expectations.
[15:45] uh some years ago Dr Rosenthal after conducting a variety of different experiments came to the conclusion that the expectations that teachers had of students was having a tremendous effect on their ability to learn and and their grade level averages.
[16:00] so he put together a series of experiments and then one major experiment which was tremendous.
[16:03] he went to the San Francisco Bay area and at the beginning of the school year he had the principal call in three teachers.
[16:10] the three teachers were told that by the principal as a result of teaching Excellence they had been singled out as
[16:16] Excellence they had been singled out as the three best teachers in the school
[16:18] the three best teachers in the school and that they were going to be given 30
[16:19] and that they were going to be given 30 students each of the brightest students
[16:22] students each of the brightest students in the school identified by IQ tests at
[16:25] in the school identified by IQ tests at the end of the last semester they would
[16:27] the end of the last semester they would be able to teach these students for the
[16:28] be able to teach these students for the entire year and it was estimated by
[16:30] entire year and it was estimated by experts that these students would jump
[16:32] experts that these students would jump in Scholastic achievement an average of
[16:35] in Scholastic achievement an average of 20 to 30% over the course of that school
[16:38] 20 to 30% over the course of that school year now the teachers were told that one
[16:41] year now the teachers were told that one of the conditions was that they mustn't
[16:42] of the conditions was that they mustn't tell the teacher they must tell the
[16:44] tell the teacher they must tell the students and they mustn't tell their
[16:45] students and they mustn't tell their parents they must continue to teach the
[16:47] parents they must continue to teach the same way and classes were carefully
[16:49] same way and classes were carefully monitored to make sure that they taught
[16:51] monitored to make sure that they taught the same way they taught before but only
[16:53] the same way they taught before but only they would know that they had been given
[16:55] they would know that they had been given 30 right students each to teach for the
[16:57] 30 right students each to teach for the whole year the teachers were delighted
[16:59] whole year the teachers were delighted the teachers went out they were excited
[17:01] the teachers went out they were excited about this they worked hard with those
[17:02] about this they worked hard with those students they spent time after school
[17:04] students they spent time after school with them they got really really
[17:05] with them they got really really involved in teaching more than they ever
[17:07] involved in teaching more than they ever had before and at the end of the school
[17:08] had before and at the end of the school year lo and behold those three classes
[17:10] year lo and behold those three classes LED not only the school but the entire
[17:12] LED not only the school but the entire School District in academic
[17:14] School District in academic accomplishment at the end of the year
[17:15] accomplishment at the end of the year they called the three teachers in they
[17:16] They called the three teachers in. They sat them down and they sat them down and they said, well, uh, you've had a good year.
[17:20] And they said, yes, it was great. Those kids were so bright. They were so eager to learn.
[17:23] They so maybe we should tell you the truth that this was an experiment.
[17:27] And the fact is that the the beginning of the school year, we selected the names of 90 children by lottery from the school population at large and assigned them to your class.
[17:36] We didn't even know what their IQs were.
[17:37] They said, well, well, that's remarkable. How could it have happened that they did so well?
[17:41] And then they looked at each other and said, well, of course it's because we are the three most excellent teachers in this school.
[17:47] They said, well, the other side of it was simply this is at the beginning of the school year.
[17:50] We put all the teachers' names in a hat and yours were the first three names that were drawn.
[17:53] So this is what is called a double blind experiment.
[17:56] They help constant for everything but expectations.
[17:58] Now the expectations on the teachers were explicit. We believe that you are excellent teachers.
[18:03] The expectations of the teachers on the students were implicit.
[18:08] They were never spoken. The teachers just treated those students as though they were really intelligent.
[18:11] And the students bloomed and blossomed.
[18:13] And in one of the classes a
[18:19] blossomed and in one of the classes a student from beginning of the year to the end of the year jumped 25 IQ points.
[18:24] in a subsequent experiment a student jumped as much as 27 IQ points which is to prove that high expectations teachers bring out intelligence in students that is completely unheard of.
[18:36] Marva Collins the famous teacher in the uh Chicago inner city has found that if you treat students as though they're intelligent and talk to them and work with them as though they are really bright they will absolutely astonish you in terms of academic accomplishment.
[18:49] all right this brings us to the critical role of expectations in your life first part of expectations in your life number one and where expectations affect you.
[18:54] expectations of your parents we have found that we have a tendency as adults to try to live up to or down to the expectation of our parents all our lives.
[19:09] if our parents were strong and supportive and loving and kind and encouraging and really believed in us all our lives we will strive unconsciously to live a life consistent with those expectations.
[19:18] if our parents
[19:20] with those expectations if our parents were critical and condemnatory and were critical and condemnatory and bitched and complained and griped about
[19:23] bitched and complained and griped about our grades and so on and so forth we our grades and so on and so forth we will find that all of our life will have
[19:27] will find that all of our life will have a tendency to hold ourselves back so be a tendency to hold ourselves back so be alert to that what were the expectations
[19:32] alert to that what were the expectations of your parents were they positive were they negative were they boosting or were they discouraging and how much are they
[19:37] they discouraging and how much are they affecting you today second area of expectations is the expectations of your
[19:42] expectations is the expectations of your boss in all of our studies we have found especially in the studies on excellence
[19:47] especially in the studies on excellence in organizations we have found that high expectations bosses have high
[19:50] in organizations we have found that high expectations bosses have high performance work environments now if you work for a boss who's negative critical
[19:55] work for a boss who's negative critical and condemnatory if you work for a boss that has negative expectations or a negative attitude chances are your
[19:59] that has negative expectations or a negative attitude chances are your performance will be at the very lowest
[20:03] performance will be at the very lowest as a matter of fact if you look at the course of your working career you'll find that the times of your life that
[20:07] find that the times of your life that you've enjoyed the most is working under a boss that has high positive expectations of you and your ability
[20:14] expectations of you and your ability isn't that correct the third area of expectations is the expectations you have of others especially of your
[20:23] have of others especially of your children especially of your spouse or
[20:26] children especially of your spouse or your mate especially of your
[20:28] your mate especially of your subordinates or the people who look up
[20:29] subordinates or the people who look up to you you see we have are profoundly
[20:33] to you you see we have are profoundly affected by the opinions of anybody we
[20:35] affected by the opinions of anybody we Respect by the attitudes toward us of
[20:37] Respect by the attitudes toward us of anybody we respect and if you have high
[20:39] anybody we respect and if you have high positive expectations of the people
[20:42] positive expectations of the people around you especially your children they
[20:44] around you especially your children they will rise to fulfill those expectations
[20:46] will rise to fulfill those expectations so the basic rule with regard to this is
[20:49] so the basic rule with regard to this is always expect good things of other
[20:51] always expect good things of other people in word and deed tell them
[20:53] people in word and deed tell them continually I believe in you and number
[20:56] continually I believe in you and number four area of expectations is the
[20:58] four area of expectations is the expectations you have of yourself in the
[21:00] expectations you have of yourself in the final analysis these are the most
[21:02] final analysis these are the most powerful if you have high positive
[21:04] powerful if you have high positive expectations of yourself you'll be
[21:07] expectations of yourself you'll be astonished at what it will mean to your
[21:08] astonished at what it will mean to your life always expect the best always
[21:11] life always expect the best always expect the best and here's a little
[21:13] expect the best and here's a little exercise which
[21:15] exercise which I learned from one of my graduates one
[21:18] I learned from one of my graduates one of our live seminars he found that by
[21:20] of our live seminars he found that by starting off every day with this simple
[21:22] starting off every day with this simple little exercise and saying to himself I
[21:25] little exercise and saying to himself I believe something wonderful is going to
[21:27] believe something wonderful is going to happen to me today I believe something
[21:29] happen to me today I believe something wonderful is going to happen to me today
[21:31] wonderful is going to happen to me today I believe something wonderful is going
[21:34] I believe something wonderful is going to happen to me today that this little
[21:36] to happen to me today that this little exercise changed his whole attitude that
[21:38] exercise changed his whole attitude that he went through the whole day with the
[21:40] he went through the whole day with the attitude of somebody with a confident
[21:58] to happen to me today and if all day
[21:59] to happen to me today and if all day long you say I believe something
[22:00] long you say I believe something wonderful is going to happen to me
[22:02] wonderful is going to happen to me you'll find that as you go to sleep the
[22:04] you'll find that as you go to sleep the next night and try this today it's a
[22:06] next night and try this today it's a very powerful ex sounds a little bit
[22:07] very powerful ex sounds a little bit corny but it's a very powerful exercise
[22:10] corny but it's a very powerful exercise if you'll try it you'll find that when
[22:11] if you'll try it you'll find that when you go to sleep you will not be able to
[22:14] you go to sleep you will not be able to think of all the wonderful things that
[22:15] think of all the wonderful things that happened to you you'll just be surprised
[22:18] happened to you you'll just be surprised that that your parking spaces will open
[22:20] that that your parking spaces will open up and friends will call and you'll get
[22:21] up and friends will call and you'll get checks in the mail just your life will
[22:23] checks in the mail just your life will be a series of really positive happy
[22:26] be a series of really positive happy experiences so always expect the best I
[22:28] experiences so always expect the best I believe something wonderful is going to
[22:30] believe something wonderful is going to happen to me today and by the
[22:31] happen to me today and by the inexorability of a law of nature it's
[22:33] inexorability of a law of nature it's going to happen to you I can assure you
[22:34] going to happen to you I can assure you it's happened to thousands and thousands
[22:36] it's happened to thousands and thousands and thousands of our graduates who
[22:38] and thousands of our graduates who literally astonish you the effect of
[22:40] literally astonish you the effect of this corny little exercise all right the
[22:42] this corny little exercise all right the next law is what is called The Law of
[22:45] next law is what is called The Law of Attraction now the Law of Attraction
[22:47] Attraction now the Law of Attraction simply says that you are a living
[22:52] simply says that you are a living magnet you are a living
[22:54] magnet you are a living magnet and that you inevitably attract
[22:57] magnet and that you inevitably attract into your life life the people and
[22:58] into your life life the people and circumstances that are in harmony with
[23:01] circumstances that are in harmony with your dominant thought in the universe we
[23:04] your dominant thought in the universe we know that all of energy is in a state of
[23:07] know that all of energy is in a state of vibration that everything is vibrating
[23:09] vibration that everything is vibrating even this board is vibrating your your
[23:11] even this board is vibrating your your skin is vibrating every substance is
[23:13] skin is vibrating every substance is vibrating because of its molecular
[23:15] vibrating because of its molecular structure and we also know this is a law
[23:16] structure and we also know this is a law of radiation that everything is
[23:18] of radiation that everything is vibrating outward the process of entropy
[23:22] vibrating outward the process of entropy and we find that whatever you are
[23:24] and we find that whatever you are thinking your thoughts are also a form
[23:26] thinking your thoughts are also a form of energy that is vibrating and
[23:29] of energy that is vibrating and radiating out from you and that travels
[23:31] radiating out from you and that travels at the speed of light so that you can
[23:33] at the speed of light so that you can affect people in circumstances at Great
[23:35] affect people in circumstances at Great distances if you ever had an experience
[23:36] distances if you ever had an experience where you're thinking about somebody and
[23:37] where you're thinking about somebody and the telephone rings and it's them have
[23:39] the telephone rings and it's them have you ever had an experience where you
[23:40] you ever had an experience where you phone somebody else and they say we were
[23:42] phone somebody else and they say we were just talking about you it just leaps
[23:44] just talking about you it just leaps into your mind have you ever had an
[23:46] into your mind have you ever had an experience when you're in tune with your
[23:47] experience when you're in tune with your husband or wife and you think you know
[23:49] husband or wife and you think you know I'd like to go out to dinner at such and
[23:51] I'd like to go out to dinner at such and such a place tonight and you call home
[23:52] such a place tonight and you call home and they will say why don't we go to
[23:54] and they will say why don't we go to dinner at s set a place these are all
[23:56] dinner at s set a place these are all examples of this law of attraction the
[23:58] examples of this law of attraction the law of attraction is considered by many
[23:59] law of attraction is considered by many to be one of the most important laws of
[24:01] to be one of the most important laws of human existence in this you will always
[24:05] human existence in this you will always attract to yourself positive or negative
[24:08] attract to yourself positive or negative people and circumstances that harmonize
[24:11] people and circumstances that harmonize with your dominant thoughts that
[24:13] with your dominant thoughts that whatever you're thinking on a continuing
[24:15] whatever you're thinking on a continuing basis you're attracting into your life
[24:17] basis you're attracting into your life you're drawing it into your life like a
[24:19] you're drawing it into your life like a magnet that's why it's so important that
[24:21] magnet that's why it's so important that you keep your thoughts on what you want
[24:23] you keep your thoughts on what you want keep your thoughts on what you desire
[24:24] keep your thoughts on what you desire and keep your thoughts off of what you
[24:27] and keep your thoughts off of what you don't want and by the way as you advance
[24:29] don't want and by the way as you advance and develop and become more proficient
[24:31] and develop and become more proficient and more sharp with these methods The
[24:33] and more sharp with these methods The Law of Attraction will work faster for
[24:35] Law of Attraction will work faster for you and with greater accuracy so so be
[24:37] you and with greater accuracy so so be careful use it uh right the last law
[24:40] careful use it uh right the last law we'll talk about in this session is
[24:41] we'll talk about in this session is called the law of
[24:43] called the law of Correspondence the law of
[24:46] Correspondence is a law that says and
[24:50] Correspondence is a law that says and it's quoted by Jesus as within so
[24:53] it's quoted by Jesus as within so without as within so
[24:56] without as within so without and what it simply means is this
[24:59] without and what it simply means is this it means that your outer world is a
[25:02] it means that your outer world is a mirror and that's the probably the best
[25:04] mirror and that's the probably the best word your outer world is a mirror and it
[25:06] word your outer world is a mirror and it simply reflects back to you what is
[25:09] simply reflects back to you what is going on in your inner world that your
[25:12] going on in your inner world that your outer world is the result of your inner
[25:14] outer world is the result of your inner world that what is going on within
[25:16] world that what is going on within determines what is going on without that
[25:18] determines what is going on without that if you want to change your outer world
[25:20] if you want to change your outer world you have to change your inner world now
[25:24] you have to change your inner world now that means that you can look at your
[25:25] that means that you can look at your world you can look at your level of
[25:26] world you can look at your level of Health what is going on in terms of your
[25:29] Health what is going on in terms of your physical health is largely determined by
[25:31] physical health is largely determined by what is going on in in your mind what is
[25:33] what is going on in in your mind what is going on in your relationships is the
[25:35] going on in your relationships is the most perfect example because you find
[25:37] most perfect example because you find that when you are feeling good inside
[25:38] that when you are feeling good inside your relationships go smoothly when
[25:40] your relationships go smoothly when you're feeling negative or stressed
[25:41] you're feeling negative or stressed inside your relationships go poorly your
[25:44] inside your relationships go poorly your relationships are the miror image
[25:46] relationships are the miror image reflection of the quality of your own
[25:48] reflection of the quality of your own personality you can tell how healthy
[25:50] personality you can tell how healthy your personality is by looking at the
[25:52] your personality is by looking at the relationships changed his life and
[25:53] relationships changed his life and changed the lives of millions of others
[25:55] changed the lives of millions of others which sort of tacks on to all all of
[25:57] which sort of tacks on to all all of these laws that we're talking about and
[25:59] these laws that we're talking about and it was simply this is you become what
[26:01] it was simply this is you become what you think about you become what you
[26:04] you think about you become what you think about and since the only thing
[26:06] think about and since the only thing that you can control is your thinking if
[26:09] that you can control is your thinking if you change what you are thinking
[26:13] you change what you are thinking about you will begin to change your
[26:15] about you will begin to change your reality if you change what you expect
[26:17] reality if you change what you expect you change what you believe you change
[26:18] you change what you believe you change your dominant thoughts you change your
[26:20] your dominant thoughts you change your inner workings you begin to attract into
[26:22] inner workings you begin to attract into your life people circumstances events
[26:24] your life people circumstances events opportunities and everything consistent
[26:26] opportunities and everything consistent with your new thoughts the reason people
[26:28] with your new thoughts the reason people are unsuccessful is they think thoughts
[26:29] are unsuccessful is they think thoughts of unsuccess or
[26:31] of unsuccess or failure another line which is very very
[26:34] failure another line which is very very important says that all causation is
[26:36] important says that all causation is mental we live in a mental Universe all
[26:39] mental we live in a mental Universe all causation is mental if you wish to
[26:42] causation is mental if you wish to change your Universe you have to change
[26:44] change your Universe you have to change your mentality and this brings us to the
[26:46] your mentality and this brings us to the most important line of all which is
[26:48] most important line of all which is simply this and let me write it over
[26:50] simply this and let me write it over here if you change your
[26:53] here if you change your thinking change your
[26:56] thinking change your thinking
[26:58] thinking Dynamic vital living successful life
[27:02] Dynamic vital living successful life that you desire on the
[27:08] outside
