youtube-transcript.ai ("we", "our", or "the Service") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.

1. Information We Collect

We collect minimal data to operate the Service:

• YouTube video IDs — submitted by you to retrieve transcripts. We do not store these after the request is fulfilled, except as part of the AI chat records described below.
• Usage analytics — via PostHog, we collect anonymized data such as pages visited, features used, and session duration. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics.
• Email address — only if you voluntarily submit your email via a waitlist or notification form.
• Questions you type into the AI chat — when you ask the AI about a video, we store the text you wrote, along with the video ID, its duration, your interface language, and a pseudonymous visitor identifier. We use this only to understand what people need from the Service and to decide what to build next. We do not store the AI's replies for this purpose, and we do not use these records to build advertising profiles or sell them to anyone. If you are signed in, your chats are additionally saved to your own account so you can reopen them — those you can delete yourself at any time.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the transcript extraction service.
• To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the Service.
• To contact you if you opted in to updates (email only).

3. Cookies and Tracking

We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog may set cookies to distinguish unique visits. No advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels are used. You can opt out of analytics by enabling a browser-level "Do Not Track" setting or by using a content blocker.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except:

• Service providers — PostHog (analytics). Their privacy policy governs their data handling.
• Legal requirements — if required by law or valid legal process.

5. Data Retention

We do not persistently store transcript content. Email addresses collected via opt-in forms are retained until you request deletion. AI chat questions (section 1) are retained for up to 24 months and then deleted; you can ask us to delete yours sooner at the address below.

6. Your Rights

You may request deletion of any personal data we hold about you by contacting us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
