# Your Visualization Isn’t Working — Here’s the Mistake | Neville Goddard

[00:01] You say you have imagined it for years and it has not appeared.
[00:05] Then you have not assumed it.
[00:07] Do not tell me what you have done.
[00:10] Tell me what you have accepted.
[00:12] For the law does not reward effort.
[00:15] It yields only to assumption.
[00:18] You may repeat the act a thousand times and yet remain unchanged.
[00:24] For repetition is not acceptance.
[00:28] You have imagined it but you have not accepted it as true and that is why it has not appeared.
[00:37] Tonight we discuss one of the most vital techniques in the art of realizing your desire.
[00:45] The control of attention and the condensing of the imaginal act.
[00:52] Many come to me and say, "I enter the scene, but I cannot remain in it."
[00:58] You cannot remain in it because you do
[01:01] Not dwell in the end.
[01:04] You enter the feeling of the wish fulfilled and yet your mind wanders.
[01:10] The scene grows beyond its appointed limit.
[01:15] This is the restless mind.
[01:17] [music]
[01:17] It moves from one thing to another and creates nothing, for attention has not yet been trained.
[01:26] When you can restrict your attention and remain faithful to one imaginal act, not permitting it to stray but holding it within a limited field, you are then master of your fate.
[01:42] If you allow your attention to wander, it moves from one event to another, recalling the past, anticipating the future.
[01:52] You begin with a simple act.
[01:57] The end is where you begin.
[01:59] You do not move toward it.
[01:59] You begin.
[02:02] From it.
[02:04] You imagine a handshake to imply the fulfillment of your desire.
[02:10] You imagine the conversation, the dinner, and a thousand other things.
[02:15] You believe you are making it more real.
[02:19] You are only scattering the power and abandoning the act, losing the sense of fulfillment.
[02:27] Do not mistake brevity for weakness.
[02:31] For feeling is not deepened by adding more.
[02:34] It lies in remaining in the act.
[02:39] The moment you add to the act, you are no longer in the end.
[02:42] You abandon the end.
[02:45] It never becomes a fact.
[02:50] It remains only a thought.
[02:52] You leave the act and ask why it has no reality.
[02:57] This is the error.
[03:00] Condense the event.
[03:00] Do not construct a
[03:03] drama.
[03:05] For instance if I single out the act of shaking a man's hand that is the only thing I do.
[03:14] I do not shake it then light a cigarette and do more.
[03:19] I remain in the handshake.
[03:23] Imagine you are shaking hands and restrict your attention to that act until it takes on the tones of reality.
[03:34] Reenact it not by expanding it but by returning to it.
[03:40] Like a man who knocks at a door you do not knock and leave.
[03:43] You remain until it opens.
[03:49] Your mind will wander.
[03:54] Do not follow it.
[03:56] Return to the act.
[04:00] When you shake hands, remain in the handshake.
[04:01] Feel the hand in yours.
[04:04] Hear the few words that imply it is done.
[04:08] Do not pass from that act into another event.
[04:14] When you leave it, return to it.
[04:17] Repeat it until that single act has all the vividness of reality.
[04:25] The wandering mind is arrested.
[04:28] You gather the whole of your being into one act.
[04:33] Persist in the act until it becomes real to you.
[04:38] For you are the operant power.
[04:42] You will be tempted to return to look to question.
[04:48] Put off the old man.
[04:51] You are the man you have assumed yourself to be.
[04:55] Remain faithful to that assumption.
[04:59] There is nothing more to do.
[05:03] Let the law act.
[05:05] Let the world reflect your assumption.
[05:10] It is yours.
[05:24] [music]
