  為什麼？

[18:51] Because when you love, when you trust, when you open, you connect with something universal, something beyond your small self.
  因為當你愛，當你信任，當你敞開，你便與某種普遍的、超越你渺小自我的東西連結。

[19:03] And that universal energy starts flowing through you.
  而那普遍的能量便開始透過你流動。

[19:07] You become a vehicle, an instrument, and beautiful things start happening.
  你成為一個載體，一個工具，美好的事情便開始發生。

[19:16] But notice what happened here.
  但請注意這裡發生了什麼。

[19:19] This man did not come with a mission.
  這個人不是帶著使命來的。

[19:22] He did not come to spread music.
  他不是來傳播音樂的。

[19:25] He did not come to teach singing.
  他不是來教唱歌的。

[19:29] He came utterly selfishly.
  他是出於極度的自私而來的。

[19:33] He came because his heart was full and he wanted to offer it, to share it, not to convert anyone, not to create followers, not to start a movement, just to express, just to celebrate, just to give what was overflowing in him.

[19:54] This is the right way.
  這才是正確的方式。

[19:58] First you become so full that you cannot contain it and then it overflows not as a duty but as a natural consequence like a flower blooming.
  首先，你變得如此充實，以至於無法自持，然後它便會溢出，不是作為一種義務，而是作為一種自然而然的結果，就像花朵綻放一樣。

[20:11] The flower does not bloom to spread fragrance.
  花朵綻放並非為了散播芬芳。

[20:15] The flower blooms because blooming is its nature and the fragrance spreads by itself without any effort.
  花朵綻放是因為綻放是它的天性，而芬芳則自行散播，毫不費力。

[20:26] without any intention.

[20:29] So I am saying to you be like the

[20:31] flower.

[20:33] Don't think about spreading fragrance.

[20:36] Think about blooming.

[20:39] Don't think about giving light to

[20:41] others.

[20:43] Think about becoming light yourself.

[20:46] And once you are light, once you are

[20:48] blooming, once you are overflowing, the

[20:52] rest happens by itself.

[20:55] You don't need to do anything.

[20:58] You don't need to become a missionary.

[21:00] You become a message.

[21:02] And people who have eyes will see.

[21:06] People who have ears will hear.

[21:09] People who have hearts will feel.

[21:14] Now someone might ask, "But Osho, is

[21:18] this not also selfish in a negative way?

[21:21] If everyone just focuses on themselves,

[21:25] who will help the poor? Who will serve

[21:28] the sick? Who will take care of those

[21:31] who are suffering?

[21:33] This question comes from a fundamental

[21:35] misunderstanding.

[21:37] Let me clarify.

[21:39] When I say be selfish,

[21:42] I am not saying ignore others.

[21:46] I am not saying become cold. I am not

[21:49] saying become indifferent.

[21:52] I am saying become so full of yourself,

[21:56] so overflowing with your own being that

[21:59] helping others is not a sacrifice. It is

[22:03] not a duty.

[22:05] It is not a burden. It is a joy. It is a

[22:09] celebration.

[22:11] It is a sharing of your abundance.

[22:14] Right now when you help others

[22:18] you do it from emptiness. You help

[22:21] because you have been told it is the

[22:23] right thing to do. You help because you

[22:26] want to feel good about yourself.

[22:29] You help because you want others to

[22:32] think you are a good person.

[22:34] You help because you are afraid that if

[22:37] you don't help you will be selfish and

[22:41] being selfish is bad. So your help is

[22:44] contaminated.

[22:46] It is not pure.

[22:48] It comes with expectations,

[22:51] with demands,

[22:53] with a sense of superiority.

[22:56] I am helping you. You should be

[22:59] grateful. You should respect me. You

[23:03] should acknowledge my sacrifice.

[23:06] But when you help from fullness, from

[23:10] overflow,

[23:11] there is no expectation.

[23:14] There is no demand.

[23:16] You help because you have so much that

[23:19] you want to share.

[23:21] Like a cloud full of rain,

[23:24] the cloud does not rain as a sacrifice.

[23:28] The cloud does not rain as a duty.

[23:33] The cloud reigns because it is so full

[23:36] that it must rain and whoever is there

[23:39] to receive receives

[23:42] and whoever is not there does not

[23:45] receive.

[23:47] The cloud is not concerned.

[23:50] The cloud has done its job simply by

[23:54] raining.

[23:56] This is the difference.

[23:58] Selfless service is miserable.

[24:01] Selfish overflow is blissful.

[24:05] Selfless service creates saints who are

[24:08] bitter, resentful

[24:12] martyrs who are always complaining about

[24:15] how much they sacrificed and how little

[24:18] appreciation they got.

[24:21] Selfish overflow creates Buddhas who are

[24:25] simply celebrating, sharing, dancing

[24:30] with no concern for results,

[24:33] no concern for appreciation,

[24:36] no concern for recognition.

[24:39] So my message is radical.

[24:43] It goes against everything you have been

[24:45] taught but it is the truth and the truth

[24:50] is always radical.

[24:53] The truth is always revolutionary

[24:57] because the truth destroys all lies and

[25:00] the biggest lie is that you should be

[25:02] selfless.

[25:04] No, be utterly selfish.

[25:08] Transform yourself.

[25:10] become a light

[25:12] and then without trying without effort

[25:17] you will light up the whole world.

[25:20] Now let me address another aspect of

[25:23] this teaching.

[25:24] Why has no one ever said this before?

[25:28] Why has every religion preached

[25:30] selflessness?

[25:32] The reason is simple. Society does not

[25:36] want enlightened individuals. Society

[25:40] wants obedient individuals.

[25:43] Society wants people who fit in, who

[25:47] follow rules, who don't question, who

[25:51] don't rebel. And the best way to keep

[25:54] people obedient is to make them feel

[25:57] guilty about being selfish.

[25:59] to make them feel that their own needs,

[26:03] their own growth, their own

[26:05] transformation

[26:07] is somehow wrong, somehow sinful,

[26:12] somehow less important than serving

[26:15] others. So from childhood you are taught

[26:20] to sacrifice,

[26:22] to compromise, to adjust,

[26:25] to think about others first. And what

[26:29] happens? You become weak. You become

[26:32] dependent.

[26:34] You become controllable. You lose your

[26:38] individuality.

[26:40] You lose your fire. You lose your

[26:43] uniqueness.

[26:45] You become a sheep in the herd. And the

[26:48] shepherds, the priests, the politicians,

[26:53] the leaders,

[26:55] they are very happy

[26:57] because sheep are easy to manage. Sheep

[27:00] don't rebel. Sheep follow. But a truly

[27:05] selfish person, a person who is utterly

[27:09] focused on their own transformation,

[27:12] such a person becomes a lion. Such a

[27:16] person cannot be controlled.

[27:19] Such a person will not follow just

[27:21] because everyone else is following. Such

[27:23] a person will question, will rebel, will

[27:28] find their own paths.

[27:30] And this is dangerous to society. This

[27:33] is why society condemns selfishness.

[27:37] This is why religion preaches

[27:38] selflessness.

[27:40] But I am not here to make you fit into

[27:43] society.

[27:45] I am here to make you free from society.

[27:49] I am not here to make you religious.

[27:52] I am here to make you spiritual.

[27:55] And there is a big difference.

[27:58] Religion is organized belief.

[28:02] Religion is about fitting in, about

[28:05] following,

[28:06] about obeying.

[28:09] Spirituality is about individual search,

[28:13] about questioning,

[28:15] about finding your own truth.

[28:18] So my approach is not religious. My

[28:21] approach is spiritual. And the

[28:24] foundation of spirituality is

[28:27] selfishness.

[28:29] Utter selfishness.

[28:31] complete concentration on your own

[28:34] being, your own consciousness,

[28:38] your own awakening.

[28:40] This is the only holy approach

[28:44] and I call it the only holy approach

[28:48] because it is the only approach that

[28:50] actually works. All other approaches

[28:54] have failed.

[28:56] 25 centuries have passed since Buddha.

[29:00] 20 centuries since Jesus. And how many

[29:03] enlightened people has humanity

[29:05] produced? A handful. Why? Because the

[29:10] approach was wrong. Buddha said, "Don't

[29:15] seek, don't become, just be." But people

[29:19] could not understand.

[29:21] So they created methods,

[29:24] they created practices,

[29:27] they created paths.

[29:29] And all these methods are based on the

[29:32] idea that you need to do something. You

[29:35] need to achieve something.

[29:37] You need to become something.

[29:40] And this doing, this achieving, this

[29:44] becoming is the problem. Because the

[29:46] more you do, the more you strengthen the

[29:49] ego. The more you try to achieve, the

[29:52] more you reinforce the sense that

[29:56] something is missing.

[29:58] The more you try to become, the more you

[30:01] deny what you already are. So the real

[30:05] teaching is

[30:07] stop doing,

[30:10] stop achieving,

[30:12] stop becoming,

[30:14] just be. But people say how can I just

[30:18] be? I need to do something.

[30:22] I need a technique.

[30:25] I need a method.

[30:27] And so teachers

[30:29] out of compassion

[30:32] give them techniques,

[30:34] give them methods, give them practices,

[30:38] knowing fully well that these techniques

[30:40] will not lead to enlightenment,

[30:43] but they will keep the seeker busy.

[30:46] They will give the seeker hope. And

[30:49] maybe just maybe the seeker will get so

[30:53] tired of seeking that one day they will

[30:56] simply stop. And in that stopping

[31:00] enlightenment happens.

[31:03] This is the paradox.

[31:05] You cannot achieve enlightenment by

[31:08] seeking it. But you cannot achieve it by

[31:12] not seeking it either. You have to seek

[31:15] so intensely,

[31:18] so totally, so exhaustingly

[31:22] that one day the seeking itself drops

[31:27] not because you give up but because you

[31:30] see the futility of it.

[31:34] You see that what you are seeking is

[31:37] already here. What you are trying to

[31:40] become, you already are.

[31:43] And in that seeing the seeking stops and

[31:48] enlightenment is revealed.

[31:51] But this revelation can only happen if

[31:54] you are utterly selfish. If you are

[31:57] completely focused on your own inner

[32:01] journey,

[32:03] if you are not distracted by the idea of

[32:05] helping others,

[32:08] of serving humanity,

[32:10] of spreading messages,

[32:13] these are all distractions.

[32:16] These are all ways the ego finds to

[32:19] avoid the real work. The real work of

[32:23] looking inside,

[32:25] of facing yourself, of dissolving the

[32:28] false self.

[32:30] This work is hard. This work is painful.

[32:34] This work requires courage. So the ego

[32:38] says, "Let me help others instead.

[32:42] Let me serve. Let me sacrifice.

[32:46] This is easier.

[32:49] This makes me feel good. This makes me

[32:52] feel noble. But this is not the way. The

[32:56] way is ruthless self inquiry,

[33:00] relentless honesty,

[33:02] total commitment to your own

[33:04] transformation.

[33:06] This is what I mean by being selfish.

[33:09] And this is the most spiritual thing you

[33:12] can do. Because when you transform

[33:14] yourself, you transform the world.

[33:18] Not by changing others but by becoming a

[33:22] beacon,

[33:24] a light in the darkness. And those who

[33:26] have eyes will see your light and they

[33:29] will come

[33:31] not because you call them but because

[33:34] they cannot resist.

[33:36] They are pulled magnetically inevitably.

[33:41] Let me tell you another story.

[33:44] There was a king who wanted to become

[33:46] enlightened.

[33:48] He went to many masters.

[33:50] He tried many methods but nothing

[33:53] worked. One day he heard about a master

[33:58] living in the forest.

[34:01] He went to this master and said, "I want

[34:05] to become enlightened. What should I

[34:07] do?" The master said, "First tell me why

[34:13] do you want to become enlightened?"

[34:16] The king said, "So that I can help my

[34:19] people,

[34:21] so that I can be a better king, so that

[34:24] I can serve my kingdom."

[34:27] The master said, "Then you will never

[34:30] become enlightened."

[34:33] The king was shocked. He said, "Why

[34:38] is it wrong to want to help my people?"

[34:41] The master said it is not wrong

[34:46] but it is not the reason to seek

[34:48] enlightenment.

[34:50] If you want to become enlightened to

[34:53] help others, you are still seeking for

[34:56] the ego. The ego wants to be helpful.

[35:00] The ego wants to be a good king. The ego

[35:04] wants to serve.

[35:07] This is subtle ego. This is spiritual

[35:09] ego.

[35:11] And this ego will block your

[35:13] enlightenment.

[35:15] The king said, "Then what should I do?"

[35:19] The master said, "Forget about your

[35:23] people.

[35:24] Forget about your kingdom.

[35:27] Forget about being a good king.

[35:30] Focus only on yourself. Be utterly

[35:34] selfish. Seek enlightenment for no

[35:37] reason.

[35:38] Seek it because you cannot live without

[35:41] it. Seek it because not seeking it would

[35:45] be death. Seek it with such intensity

[35:50] that everything else disappears.

[35:53] Your people, your kingdom, your duties

[35:58] all disappear.

[36:00] Only the seeking remains.

[36:03] And when even the seeking disappears,

[36:06] enlightenment happens.

[36:08] The king understood.

[36:11] He renounced his kingdom. He went into

[36:14] the forest. He meditated with total

[36:17] intensity,

[36:19] with utter selfishness,

[36:22] not thinking about anyone, not worrying

[36:25] about anything, just focused on his

[36:28] inner transformation.

[36:30] And after 12 years

[36:33] he became enlightened.

[36:35] And when he became enlightened

[36:38] something beautiful happened. People

[36:41] started coming to him from all over.

[36:45] Even from his old kingdom.

[36:48] Not because he went to them but because

[36:52] they heard about a light in the forest,

[36:55] a presence,

[36:57] a silence. and they were pulled.

[37:01] And he helped more people in his

[37:03] enlightened estate than he ever helped

[37:06] as a king. Because as a king, he could

[37:10] only give material things,

[37:13] food, shelter,

[37:16] security.

[37:18] But as an enlightened being, he could

[37:21] give them something far more precious.

[37:25] He could give them a glimpse of their

[37:27] own potential.

[37:29] He could show them that enlightenment is

[37:32] possible, that transformation

[37:35] is real, that the light they are seeking

[37:39] outside is already inside them.

[37:43] This is the power of being a message

[37:46] rather than a missionary. The missionary

[37:49] goes to people and says, "Believe what I

[37:52] believe. follow what I follow, convert

[37:55] to my religion. And people resist

[37:59] because no one likes to be told what to

[38:02] do. No one likes to be converted. No one

[38:06] likes to have ideology forced upon them.

[38:10] But the message, the enlightened being

[38:14] simply sits silent,

[38:18] radiant

[38:19] and people come on their own and they

[38:23] don't come to be converted.

[38:25] They come to be transformed

[38:29] and transformation cannot be forced.

[38:32] Transformation can only be invited.

[38:37] So when someone asks me what should I do

[38:41] to spread your vision

[38:43] I say don't spread my vision become my

[38:48] vision don't be a missionary be a

[38:52] message don't try to convert others

[38:56] transform yourself and if you do this if

[39:00] you are utterly selfish in your

[39:02] spiritual growth you will help more

[39:05] people than all the missionaries in the

[39:07] world combined

[39:09] because one enlightened being is more

[39:12] valuable to humanity than a million

[39:15] preachers.

[39:17] One candle lit is more useful than a

[39:20] million candles talking about light.

[39:24] This is my teaching. This is my

[39:27] approach. And I call it the only holy

[39:30] approach because it is the only approach

[39:32] that respects the individual.

[39:35] that honors the uniqueness of each

[39:38] person,

[39:39] that does not try to fit everyone into

[39:43] one mold,

[39:45] that does not say this is the only way,

[39:48] but says find your way. Listen to your

[39:52] heart. Follow what feels natural to you.

[39:56] Be selfish in the most beautiful sense

[39:59] of the word. Focus on yourself.

[40:03] transform yourself and let the

[40:06] transformation speak for itself.

[40:09] Now I must tell you something important.

[40:14] When you start being truly selfish, when

[40:17] you start focusing entirely on your own

[40:20] transformation,

[40:22] people will criticize you. They will

[40:25] call you selfish in the negative sense.

[40:28] They will say you are self-centered,

[40:31] narcissistic,

[40:33] uncaring.

[40:35] They will say you have forgotten your

[40:37] duties,

[40:39] your responsibilities,

[40:41] your obligations to family, to society,

[40:45] to humanity.

[40:47] And this criticism will hurt

[40:50] because you have been conditioned your

[40:52] whole life to care about what others

[40:55] think, to seek approval, to avoid

[40:59] criticism.

[41:01] But you must be strong. You must

[41:04] understand that their criticism comes

[41:07] from their own conditioning. They have

[41:10] been told that selflessness is virtue.

[41:14] And now they see you breaking that rule

[41:17] and it threatens them. It questions

[41:20] their own choices,

[41:22] their own sacrifices,

[41:24] their own suffering.

[41:27] So they attack

[41:29] not because you are wrong but because

[41:32] you are making them uncomfortable.

[41:35] You are showing them that there is

[41:37] another way and they are not ready to

[41:40] see it. So let them criticize.

[41:44] Let them call you selfish.

[41:47] You know the truth.

[41:49] You know that you are not being selfish

[41:52] in the sense of taking from others.

[41:55] You are being selfish in the sense of

[41:57] giving to yourself. You are being

[42:00] selfish in the sense of taking

[42:02] responsibility for your own life, your

[42:06] own happiness,

[42:08] your own transformation.

[42:10] And this is the highest responsibility

[42:13] you can take.

[42:15] In fact, let me tell you something

[42:18] radical.

[42:19] If you are not selfish,

[42:22] if you are not taking care of your own

[42:24] transformation first, then you are being

[42:27] irresponsible.

[42:29] You are being a burden on others.

[42:32] Because an unenlightened person, a

[42:35] person who has not found their own

[42:37] center, such a person is always needy,

[42:41] always demanding,

[42:43] always expecting.

[42:46] Such a person is always taking energy

[42:48] from others, draining others even when

[42:52] they think they are giving. Have you

[42:54] seen those people who are always helping

[42:57] others, always serving, always

[43:00] sacrificing,

[43:02] but they are so miserable, so bitter, so

[43:06] resentful

[43:08] and their presence is heavy, their

[43:11] presence is draining.

[43:13] You feel tired after being with them.

[43:17] Why? Because they are not coming from

[43:19] fullness.

[43:21] They are coming from emptiness. They are

[43:24] trying to fill their emptiness by

[43:26] helping others. They are trying to feel

[43:29] good about themselves by serving.

[43:32] But deep down they are angry.

[43:35] Angry that despite all their service,

[43:39] all their sacrifice,

[43:41] they are still empty, still unfulfilled,

[43:46] still miserable.

[43:48] So they project their anger onto others.

[43:52] They complain.

[43:54] They make others feel guilty.

[43:57] See how much I have sacrificed for you.

[44:01] See how much I have given and what have

[44:05] you given me in return.

[44:08] This is the curse of the selfless

[44:10] person. They give from emptiness and

[44:14] they expect others to fill that

[44:16] emptiness.

[44:18] But no one can fill your emptiness

[44:21] except you. No amount of service,

[44:25] no amount of sacrifice,

[44:28] no amount of help given to others will

[44:30] fill your inner void.

[44:33] Only your own transformation can fill

[44:36] it. So I repeat, be utterly selfish.

[44:42] Focus completely on your own

[44:45] enlightenment,

[44:47] on your own awakening,

[44:50] on your own transformation.

[44:53] And don't worry about being called

[44:55] selfish.

[44:57] Don't worry about criticism.

[45:00] Don't worry about what others think.

[45:03] This is your life.

[45:06] This is your journey. And you are

[45:08] responsible only to yourself, not to

[45:12] society,

[45:14] not to family, not to religion, only to

[45:18] yourself, to your own truth, to your own

[45:22] being. And when you take this

[45:25] responsibility,

[45:27] when you are utterly selfish in this

[45:29] way, something miraculous happens. You

[45:33] become free. Free from guilt.

[45:37] Free from obligation,

[45:39] free from the need for approval, free

[45:42] from the fear of criticism. And in that

[45:45] freedom, you start flowering.

[45:49] Your unique fragrance starts spreading.

[45:52] Your unique song starts singing. Your

[45:55] unique dance starts dancing. And the

[45:58] world becomes richer because of you.

[46:02] Not because you tried to help the world

[46:05] but because you became yourself.

[46:09] This is the secret. The world does not

[46:12] need more helpers.

[46:14] The world needs more individuals,

[46:17] more unique expressions,

[46:20] more flowering,

[46:22] more celebration.

[46:24] When you become yourself,

[46:27] totally yourself, without compromise,

[46:31] without adjustment,

[46:33] without trying to fit in, you give the

[46:36] world a gift.

[46:38] The gift of your uniqueness, the gift of

[46:41] your originality,

[46:44] the gift of your truth.

[46:46] And this gift is far more valuable than

[46:49] any service, any help, any sacrifice.

[46:54] There is an ancient story that

[46:57] illustrates what I'm saying perfectly. A

[47:00] king was getting old. He had three sons,

[47:04] all intelligent.

[47:07] All were twins born together. So there

[47:11] was no question of who is eldest.

[47:14] Otherwise there would have been no

[47:16] problem. The elder son would have been

[47:20] the successor.

[47:22] But the problem is who is going to be

[47:25] the successor out of the three. They are

[47:27] all of the same age.

[47:30] In horse riding they are all of equal

[47:33] efficiency.

[47:35] In archery they are equally great.

[47:39] In every field it is impossible to

[47:42] decide who is the best of the three. The

[47:46] king went to his master, a wise old man

[47:50] living in the forests.

[47:52] He said, "I am getting old and somebody

[47:57] has to succeed me and take care of the

[48:00] kingdom and I am in great difficulty.

[48:04] Can you give me some idea how to choose

[48:07] the right person?" The wise man gave him

[48:10] advice. He came back and he gave equal

[48:14] amounts of money to all the three sons.

[48:17] He told them because they all have their

[48:20] own palaces.

[48:22] With this money, you have to manage to

[48:25] fill your palaces completely.

[48:28] And after 7 days, I will come to see

[48:32] whoever succeeds to fill the house

[48:34] totally better than the other two is

[48:37] going to succeed me as the king of the

[48:40] kingdom.

[48:42] They were puzzled because the money was

[48:44] not that great. They thought of many

[48:47] things but the palaces were big. How to

[48:52] fill them completely?

[48:54] The first prince went to the corporation

[48:57] and asked that from today all the trucks

[49:01] that throw the garbage of the town

[49:04] outside the city, they should throw it

[49:07] into his palace.

[49:09] Because with that money only this much

[49:12] is possible to fill the palace

[49:14] completely. He filled the palace

[49:17] completely.

[49:19] The whole neighborhood was angry. Even

[49:22] the traffic on the road stopped because

[49:25] it was stinking

[49:27] but they could not do anything. He was

[49:30] the prince and it was a question of a

[49:33] certain test. The king has asked

[49:36] himself.

[49:38] The second prince was very much worried.

[49:42] He asked many people but they said with

[49:45] such a small amount of money it is very

[49:49] difficult.

[49:50] What your brother has done he has filled

[49:54] the house you can do something similar

[49:58] just purchased cheap grass and fill the

[50:01] house. He purchased the cheapest quality

[50:04] of grass which even the animals were not

[50:08] ready to eat. But still the house was

[50:11] not full. It was only half full. They

[50:15] both were worried what the third is

[50:17] doing because the third looked

[50:20] absolutely unconcerned.

[50:22] 6 days passed and he had not done

[50:25] anything.

[50:27] And the seventh day came, and by the

[50:30] evening, as the sun sets, the king came

[50:34] with the wise old man. It was impossible

[50:38] to come close to the first son's house.

[50:42] The king said, "This idiot, he has

[50:46] really filled the house, but with

[50:49] garbage.

[50:50] It is disgusting.

[50:53] I am feeling sick." But the old man

[50:56] said, "You promised

[50:59] and we have to go and see. Just keep a

[51:02] little patience.

[51:04] You need not stay long.

[51:07] Just have a look whether he has filled

[51:08] the house or not." They went to the

[51:11] second person's house. It was not

[51:14] better, but it was not worse either.

[51:18] It was rotten grass

[51:22] but the house was half full. The king

[51:27] was very much disappointed.

[51:30] He said it is better not to go to the

[51:33] third prince because these idiots what

[51:37] they are doing is not worth seeing. But

[51:40] the wise man said

[51:43] you have to go because the decision has

[51:45] to be taken. They went to the third man,

[51:48] the third young man. They entered the

[51:51] house and they were puzzled because it

[51:53] was absolutely empty.

[51:56] He had even removed the furniture, the

[51:59] paintings, the statues, everything. The

[52:03] house was terribly empty.

[52:07] They asked the son, "What have you

[52:10] done?" He said to the father, "You just

[52:13] see it is full. The king looked around.

[52:18] He said, "It is absolutely empty. You

[52:23] are fooling us." The wise old man said,

[52:27] "Don't be angry with him. It is full,

[52:32] but it is full with something that you

[52:34] are not acquainted with." What he has

[52:37] done, he has just purchased candles and

[52:41] put all over the house. The candles lit.

[52:45] It was full of light.

[52:48] Light is not material.

[52:51] It is not objective.

[52:54] The word objective is beautiful. It

[52:58] means that which objects you

[53:01] want to go through the wall, the wall

[53:04] will object, will prevent you. The wall

[53:08] is objective.

[53:11] Light is immaterial.

[53:13] It is a strange phenomenon.

[53:16] In one sense it is outside you can be

[53:20] called objective but in another sense it

[53:23] is not creating any objection. You can

[53:26] pass through it.

[53:29] It is immaterial.

[53:31] The old man said you don't understand

[53:35] the boy. And the boy returned most of

[53:39] the money back. He said this was enough.

[53:45] I could have filled the house in many

[53:47] other dimensions.

[53:49] I could have had music in the house

[53:51] which has no weight.

[53:54] I could have brought incense in the

[53:56] house. Fragrance has no weight and it

[53:59] would be filling. But I thought you will

[54:02] be coming. This is enough. And why waste

[54:07] your money? you take your money back. A

[54:11] small part of your money was enough. The

[54:15] wise man said, "This is the son who

[54:19] should succeed you because he has

[54:22] understood something that the others

[54:25] have not."

[54:27] He has understood the difference between

[54:29] material and immaterial, between

[54:32] objective and subjective, between gross

[54:35] and subtle. He has understood that

[54:38] truthfulness is not of things but of

[54:41] qualities,

[54:43] not of matter but of consciousness.

[54:47] This story shows you exactly what I am

[54:50] pointing to. When you are in love,

[54:54] when you are dissolving into the

[54:56] presence of a master, in a way you feel

[55:00] as if you are disappearing into an

[55:03] emptiness.

[55:05] As far as the material world is

[55:07] concerned, you are becoming empty.

[55:11] But on the other hand, you are entering

[55:14] a new kind of fullness,

[55:17] immaterial,

[55:18] spiritual,

[55:20] not of this world, but transcendental,

[55:25] something from the beyond.

[55:28] And I can see in many of you love is

[55:31] growing.

[55:33] And this whole month it has been growing

[55:37] like spring has come to you.

[55:40] New green leaves, new flowers, new

[55:44] perfume and your hearts are full of new

[55:47] visions, new songs, new melodies.

[55:52] Just continue dissolving into love. That

[55:56] is what is the meaning of disciple.

[56:00] Disciple means dissolving into the love,

[56:04] dissolving into the presence of the

[56:06] master, just becoming one with his

[56:10] heartbeats and silence.

[56:13] With this dissolution, treasures of

[56:16] unknown, unexperienced fragrances will

[56:19] grow in you. You are on the right track.

[56:23] Just don't look back

[56:26] and don't stop anywhere

[56:28] because this is a journey that only

[56:31] begins but never ends. It is an eternal

[56:34] journey.

[56:36] The more you go into it, the deeper it

[56:40] becomes. The more you dive, the more

[56:44] ocean you discover.

[56:46] Now I want to address something that

[56:48] many of you are thinking but not asking.

[56:52] You are wondering,

[56:54] oh, if I am utterly selfish,

[56:59] if I only focus on myself, what about my

[57:03] relationships?

[57:05] What about my family?

[57:07] What about my work? Will I become cold?

[57:11] Will I become uncaring? Will people

[57:14] leave me? These are natural fears

[57:19] and I want to address them clearly.

[57:22] When you are truly selfish in the way I

[57:25] am describing, you do not become cold,

[57:29] you become warm.

[57:31] But it is a different kind of warmth.

[57:35] Right now your warmth is needbased.

[57:40] You are warm to your family because you

[57:42] need them.

[57:44] You are caring toward your friends

[57:46] because you want them to care for you.

[57:49] You are helpful to your colleagues

[57:52] because you want to maintain your

[57:54] reputation.

[57:56] This is not real warmth.

[57:59] This is transaction.

[58:02] This is business.

[58:04] But when you are utterly selfish,

[58:08] when you have filled yourself completely

[58:10] with your own transformation,

[58:12] when your inner light is burning bright,

[58:16] then your warmth is not needbased.

[58:20] It is abundance-based.

[58:23] You are warm not because you need

[58:26] anything from anyone.

[58:29] You are warm because you are

[58:31] overflowing.

[58:33] And this warmth is far more genuine, far

[58:36] more nourishing, far more healing than

[58:40] the warmth that comes from need.

[58:44] People can feel the difference.

[58:47] When someone is being nice to you

[58:49] because they need something, you can

[58:52] feel it.

[58:53] There is an underlying tension,

[58:56] an expectation,

[58:58] a demand.

[59:00] But when someone is being loving simply

[59:03] because they are full of love, there is

[59:05] no tension, no expectation,

[59:09] no demand.

[59:11] And this kind of love transforms people.

[59:15] This kind of warmth heals people.

[59:19] This kind of presence awakens people.

[59:22] So don't worry that by being selfish you

[59:25] will lose your relationships.

[59:28] You will not lose them. You will

[59:31] transform them. They will become deeper,

[59:35] more authentic,

[59:37] more real.

[59:39] Because you will no longer be relating

[59:41] from need. You will be relating from

[59:44] abundance.

[59:46] And abundance attracts.

[59:49] Neediness repels.

[59:52] Think about it. Have you ever been with

[59:54] a needy person?

[59:57] Someone who is constantly seeking

[59:59] validation, constantly seeking

[01:00:02] attention, constantly seeking approval.

[01:00:06] How do you feel around such a person?

[01:00:09] Drained, tired,

[01:00:12] you want to escape because neediness is

[01:00:15] like a black hole. It sucks energy.

[01:00:20] No matter how much you give, it is never

[01:00:23] enough.

[01:00:25] The person is still empty.

[01:00:28] But have you been with a person who is

[01:00:30] full, who is overflowing with joy, with

[01:00:34] peace, with love? How do you feel around

[01:00:38] such a person, energized,

[01:00:42] uplifted?

[01:00:44] You want to be near them because their

[01:00:47] fullness nourishes you. Their overflow

[01:00:51] feeds you. Their presence becomes a

[01:00:54] gift. So when I say be utterly selfish,

[01:00:59] I am actually saying become the kind of

[01:01:02] person who is a gift to others.

[01:01:05] Not because you are trying to be a gift,

[01:01:09] but because you cannot help it.

[01:01:12] Your very being has become so rich that

[01:01:16] wherever you go, whatever you do,

[01:01:19] whoever you meet, they receive

[01:01:22] something.

[01:01:23] Not because you are giving,

[01:01:26] but because you are overflowing.

[01:01:29] This is the paradox of true selfishness.

[01:01:33] The more selfish you are, the more

[01:01:36] generous you become.

[01:01:38] The more you focus on yourself, the more

[01:01:41] you have to give to others.

[01:01:44] The more you fill yourself, the more you

[01:01:47] overflow onto others.

[01:01:49] This is not a contradiction.

[01:01:52] This is the way of existence.

[01:01:54] A flower must first bloom before it can

[01:01:59] spread fragrance.

[01:02:01] A lamp must first be lit before it can

[01:02:04] give light.

[01:02:06] You must first be full before you can

[01:02:09] overflow.

[01:02:11] Now let me tell you about a very

[01:02:13] important aspect of being utterly

[01:02:16] selfish that most people completely

[01:02:19] miss.

[01:02:21] Being utterly selfish does not mean you

[01:02:24] withdraw from the world. It does not

[01:02:27] mean you become a hermit living in a

[01:02:30] cave.

[01:02:31] It does not mean you escape from

[01:02:33] responsibilities.

[01:02:35] It means you engage with life from a

[01:02:38] different center, from a different

[01:02:41] quality of being. Right now you are

[01:02:46] living from the center of the ego. The

[01:02:49] ego is always comparing,

[01:02:51] always competing, always trying to prove

[01:02:55] itself.

[01:02:56] When you do something, the ego asks,

[01:03:00] "What will I get from this? How will

[01:03:03] this benefit me?

[01:03:05] What will others think?

[01:03:07] And this constant calculation

[01:03:10] makes life heavy, burdensome,

[01:03:14] exhausting,

[01:03:15] you are not living, you are

[01:03:18] strategizing.

[01:03:20] But when you are utterly selfish in my

[01:03:22] sense,

[01:03:24] when you have done the inner work, when

[01:03:27] you have found your own center, then you

[01:03:30] live from a different place.

[01:03:32] You live from being not from ego. And

[01:03:37] being does not calculate.

[01:03:39] Being does not compare. Being does not

[01:03:42] compete.

[01:03:44] Being simply expresses.

[01:03:47] Like a tree grows, like a river flows,

[01:03:51] like a bird sings. There is no why.

[01:03:55] There is no purpose. There is just

[01:03:58] natural expression. And this natural

[01:04:01] expression is what I call true action.

[01:04:05] Action that is not motivated by fear or

[01:04:08] greed or ambition.

[01:04:11] Action that comes from your very center,

[01:04:14] from your very being. And such action

[01:04:19] has a totally different quality. It is

[01:04:22] effortless.

[01:04:24] It is joyful. It is creative

[01:04:28] and it transforms

[01:04:30] not only you but everyone it touches.

[01:04:35] Let me give you a real example.

[01:04:38] There was a Zen master named Rioan.

[01:04:42] He lived in a small hut, utterly poor,

[01:04:46] possessing nothing.

[01:04:48] One night a thief came to his hut.

[01:04:52] The thief broke in, looked around, but

[01:04:56] found nothing to steal. The hut was

[01:05:00] completely empty.

[01:05:02] The thief was disappointed and was about

[01:05:06] to leave when Rioken woke up. He saw the

[01:05:10] thief and felt compassion.

[01:05:12] He thought, "This poor man has come all

[01:05:16] this way and there is nothing for him to

[01:05:19] take. he will go back empty-handed.

[01:05:23] So Ryokan took off his only blanket and

[01:05:27] gave it to the thief. He said, "Please

[01:05:30] take this. I'm sorry. I don't have

[01:05:34] anything else to give you." The thief

[01:05:37] was shocked.

[01:05:39] He had never met anyone like this. He

[01:05:42] took the blanket and ran away.

[01:05:45] Ryoken sat naked in his hut looking at

[01:05:49] the moon through the window and he wrote

[01:05:51] a poem. The thief left it behind the

[01:05:56] moon at the window. You see, Riyoken was

[01:06:01] utterly selfish.

[01:06:03] He was completely focused on his own

[01:06:06] being, his own joy, his own meditation.

[01:06:11] He was not trying to reform the thief.

[01:06:14] He was not trying to convert him to

[01:06:16] Buddhism.

[01:06:18] He was not trying to teach him a moral

[01:06:21] lesson.

[01:06:22] He simply responded from his fullness,

[01:06:27] from his overflow.

[01:06:29] And that response transformed the thief

[01:06:34] far more than any sermon or moral

[01:06:37] lecture could have. The thief came back

[01:06:41] the next day. not to return the blanket

[01:06:46] but to ask Rioken to accept him as a

[01:06:49] disciple.

[01:06:51] Because in that one moment,

[01:06:53] in that one gesture, the thief had seen

[01:06:57] something he had never seen before. He

[01:07:00] had seen what it means to be truly rich.

[01:07:04] Not rich in possessions,

[01:07:07] but rich in being.

[01:07:09] not rich in things but rich in

[01:07:12] consciousness

[01:07:14] and he wanted that richness for himself.

[01:07:18] This is what happens when you are

[01:07:21] utterly selfish in my sense. You don't

[01:07:24] try to change others but your very being

[01:07:28] changes them. You don't preach but your

[01:07:32] very presence preaches. You don't teach

[01:07:36] but your very existence teaches.

[01:07:40] And this is far more powerful than any

[01:07:44] missionary work, any conversion,

[01:07:47] any preaching.

[01:07:49] Now I want to talk about another

[01:07:52] dimension of this teaching. The

[01:07:55] dimension of risk. Being utterly selfish

[01:08:00] is risky. Why? Because it means you will

[01:08:05] have to say no to many things. You will

[01:08:08] have to say no to social expectations.

[01:08:11] You will have to say no to family

[01:08:13] demands.

[01:08:15] You will have to say no to friends

[01:08:18] requests.

[01:08:20] And saying no is difficult.

[01:08:23] It creates conflict. It creates tension.

[01:08:27] It makes people angry.

[01:08:30] But if you cannot say no, you cannot be

[01:08:34] truly selfish.

[01:08:36] If you are always saying yes to others,

[01:08:39] always accommodating,

[01:08:41] always adjusting, always compromising,

[01:08:46] then you are not taking care of

[01:08:47] yourself.

[01:08:49] You are not protecting your energy. You

[01:08:52] are not honoring your time.

[01:08:55] You are not respecting your journey.

[01:08:58] And if you don't respect your own

[01:09:00] journey, who will? So you must learn to

[01:09:04] say no. Not rudely, not arrogantly,

[01:09:09] but clearly, firmly,

[01:09:13] lovingly.

[01:09:14] You must learn to say, "I understand you

[01:09:18] want me to do this, but right now my

[01:09:22] priority is my own transformation.

[01:09:26] And this does not serve that priority.

[01:09:30] So I have to say no. And when you say

[01:09:34] this, people will be upset. They will

[01:09:37] call you selfish.

[01:09:39] And you must be prepared for that. You

[01:09:42] must be okay with being misunderstood.

[01:09:46] This is the price of freedom. This is

[01:09:49] the price of individuality.

[01:09:52] This is the price of authenticity.

[01:09:55] And it is worth paying

[01:09:58] because the alternative is slavery.

[01:10:01] The alternative is living your whole

[01:10:03] life for others, never living for

[01:10:06] yourself.

[01:10:08] The alternative is reaching the end of

[01:10:11] your life and realizing you never lived.

[01:10:16] You only survived.

[01:10:18] You only performed. You only pretended.

[01:10:22] I have seen so many people come to me at

[01:10:25] the end of their lives full of regret.

[01:10:29] They say, "Oh, I wasted my life. I did

[01:10:35] everything everyone wanted me to do. I

[01:10:38] was a good son, a good husband, a good

[01:10:42] father, a good employee.

[01:10:45] But I never did what I wanted to do.

[01:10:49] I never explored what I wanted to

[01:10:52] explore. I never became who I wanted to

[01:10:56] become.

[01:10:58] And now it is too late.

[01:11:01] And I tell them it is never too late.

[01:11:06] Even in the last moment of your life, if

[01:11:10] you become aware, if you become

[01:11:12] authentic,

[01:11:14] if you drop all pretense and simply be

[01:11:18] yourself,

[01:11:20] that moment is worth more than 70 years

[01:11:23] of pretending.

[01:11:25] But the tragedy is that most people

[01:11:28] never even have that one moment.

[01:11:31] They die as they lived, pretending,

[01:11:35] performing, playing roles.

[01:11:39] Don't let this be you. Don't wait until

[01:11:42] the end. Start now. Start today. Be

[01:11:47] utterly selfish. Focus on your own

[01:11:50] transformation.

[01:11:52] And if people criticize you,

[01:11:55] let them criticize.

[01:11:57] If people misunderstand you, let them

[01:12:01] misunderstand.

[01:12:03] You are not here to please them. You are

[01:12:06] not here to meet their expectations.

[01:12:09] You are here to become yourself, to

[01:12:12] discover your truth, to live your

[01:12:15] authentic life. And here is the

[01:12:18] beautiful irony.

[01:12:20] When you stop trying to please everyone,

[01:12:23] when you stop trying to meet everyone's

[01:12:26] expectations,

[01:12:28] when you simply focus on being yourself,

[01:12:32] you actually become more pleasing. Not

[01:12:35] to everyone, but to the right people. To

[01:12:39] the people who matter.

[01:12:42] To the people who can see you, who can

[01:12:45] appreciate you, who can love you for who

[01:12:48] you are, not for who they want you to

[01:12:50] be. The wrong people will leave your

[01:12:54] life. And that is good

[01:12:57] because they were never really with you

[01:12:59] anyway.

[01:13:01] They were with their image of you. They

[01:13:04] were with their expectation of you. They

[01:13:07] were with what they wanted you to be.

[01:13:11] But they were never with you as you are.

[01:13:14] So when you become yourself,

[01:13:17] they leave.

[01:13:19] And that creates space.

[01:13:22] Space for the right people. People who

[01:13:25] resonate with your being.

[01:13:27] People who celebrate your uniqueness.

[01:13:31] people who support your journey. This is

[01:13:35] what I have experienced in my own life.

[01:13:39] When I started teaching, many people

[01:13:42] left me. My family was upset.

[01:13:46] My friends were disappointed.

[01:13:49] My colleagues were shocked.

[01:13:52] They said, "What are you doing?

[01:13:56] You are destroying your career. You are

[01:13:59] ruining your reputation.

[01:14:02] You are wasting your life.

[01:14:04] But I continued

[01:14:06] because I knew I had to be myself. I

[01:14:10] knew I had to speak my truth.

[01:14:14] Even if the whole world was against me.

[01:14:17] And you know what happened? The people

[01:14:20] who left were replaced by people who

[01:14:22] came. People from all over the world.

[01:14:27] people who resonated with my message.

[01:14:31] People who were thirsty for truth. And

[01:14:34] these people became my family,

[01:14:37] my real family.

[01:14:39] Not family by blood, but family by

[01:14:42] consciousness,

[01:14:45] family by choice,

[01:14:47] family by resonance.

[01:14:50] So don't be afraid of losing people. If

[01:14:53] you lose people by being yourself, they

[01:14:56] were never yours to begin with.

[01:15:00] And the people you gain by being

[01:15:02] yourself,

[01:15:04] they will stay with you forever

[01:15:07] because they are not with you for what

[01:15:10] you have or for what you do or for what

[01:15:14] role you play. They are with you for who

[01:15:17] you are.

[01:15:19] And who you are never changes.

[01:15:23] It only deepens,

[01:15:25] expands, flowers.

[01:15:28] This brings me to another crucial point.

[01:15:32] Many people confuse being selfish with

[01:15:36] being selfentered.

[01:15:38] These are not the same thing.

[01:15:41] Being self-centered means you think only

[01:15:44] about yourself. In the ego sense, you

[01:15:47] want everything for yourself. You take

[01:15:51] from others. You use others.

[01:15:55] You manipulate others.

[01:15:58] This is not what I'm talking about. This

[01:16:01] is not selfishness.

[01:16:03] This is greed. This is fear.

[01:16:07] This is emptiness pretending to be

[01:16:10] fullness.

[01:16:11] True selfishness.

[01:16:14] The selfishness I am pointing to is

[01:16:17] being centered in yourself,

[01:16:21] not in the ego but in the self, in your

[01:16:24] true nature, in your being. And when you

[01:16:29] are centered in your being, you are not

[01:16:32] taking from others.

[01:16:34] You are not using others. You are simply

[01:16:38] being yourself.

[01:16:40] And from that being naturally

[01:16:43] effortlessly

[01:16:45] love flows, compassion flows, generosity

[01:16:49] flows.

[01:16:51] Not because you are trying to be loving

[01:16:53] or compassionate or generous,

[01:16:56] but because these are the natural

[01:16:58] qualities of being. The ego is always

[01:17:02] afraid,

[01:17:04] always protecting, always defending.

[01:17:08] But being is fearless.

[01:17:10] Being has nothing to protect, nothing to

[01:17:14] defend.

[01:17:16] Because being is not separate from

[01:17:18] existence.

[01:17:20] Being is one with existence.

[01:17:23] And existence cannot be threatened,

[01:17:26] cannot be diminished,

[01:17:28] cannot be destroyed. So when you are

[01:17:31] centered in being, fear disappears. And

[01:17:36] when fear disappears,

[01:17:38] love appears.

[01:17:40] Not as an effort

[01:17:42] but as a revelation.

[01:17:46] This is why I keep emphasizing be

[01:17:48] utterly selfish.

[01:17:51] Because being utterly selfish means

[01:17:53] being centered in your being. And being

[01:17:57] centered in your being means all the

[01:18:00] beautiful qualities that you are trying

[01:18:02] to cultivate,

[01:18:04] trying to practice, trying to develop,

[01:18:08] they all happen automatically.

[01:18:11] You don't need to practice love.

[01:18:14] You don't need to cultivate compassion.

[01:18:18] You don't need to develop generosity.

[01:18:22] These are not skills to be learned.

[01:18:25] These are flowers that bloom when you

[01:18:28] reach your center. So the whole

[01:18:30] spiritual journey is a journey inward,

[01:18:34] not upward,

[01:18:36] not outward,

[01:18:38] inward

[01:18:40] to your own center, to your own being,

[01:18:44] to your own truth. And this journey

[01:18:47] cannot be taken on behalf of anyone

[01:18:49] else.

[01:18:50] This journey is utterly personal,

[01:18:54] utterly individual,

[01:18:56] utterly selfish.

[01:18:59] And that is why it is the most spiritual

[01:19:02] thing you can do. Let me address one

[01:19:05] more thing before I close. Some of you

[01:19:09] might be thinking, Osho, this sounds

[01:19:12] good in theory,

[01:19:15] but practically how do I do this? How do

[01:19:18] I be utterly selfish in a world that

[01:19:22] constantly demands my attention, my

[01:19:25] energy, my time? I have a job.

[01:19:30] I have family.

[01:19:32] I have responsibilities.

[01:19:35] How can I focus only on myself?

[01:19:38] This is a practical question and it

[01:19:41] needs a practical answer. First

[01:19:45] understand that being utterly selfish

[01:19:48] does not mean you neglect your

[01:19:50] responsibilities.

[01:19:52] It means you fulfill your

[01:19:54] responsibilities

[01:19:56] from a different quality of being.

[01:20:00] Right now you fulfill your

[01:20:02] responsibilities

[01:20:03] as a burden

[01:20:05] as something you have to do as duty and

[01:20:09] this creates resentment.

[01:20:12] This creates exhaustion.

[01:20:14] This creates bitterness.

[01:20:17] But when you are centered in yourself,

[01:20:20] when you have done your inner work,

[01:20:24] responsibilities are no longer burdens.

[01:20:27] They become opportunities for

[01:20:29] expression.

[01:20:31] You go to work not because you have to,

[01:20:34] but because it is your way of

[01:20:37] participating in life.

[01:20:39] You take care of your family not because

[01:20:42] you should but because your love

[01:20:45] naturally flows toward them. You fulfill

[01:20:48] your duties not because they are duties

[01:20:52] but because they are your natural

[01:20:54] response to life. The shift is subtle

[01:20:58] but profound.

[01:21:00] It is not about what you do. It is about

[01:21:03] from where you do it. Are you doing it

[01:21:07] from the ego, from duty, from fear, from

[01:21:11] should?

[01:21:12] Or are you doing it from being, from

[01:21:16] love, from joy, from natural expression?

[01:21:21] This makes all the difference.

[01:21:24] And second,

[01:21:26] you need to create time for yourself.

[01:21:29] This is non-negotiable.

[01:21:31] No matter how busy you are, you must

[01:21:35] carve out time every day for your inner

[01:21:37] work. Even if it is just 30 minutes,

[01:21:42] even if it is early morning or late

[01:21:45] night, you must have time where you are

[01:21:49] not fulfilling anyone's expectations,

[01:21:52] not playing any roles, not doing any

[01:21:56] duties.

[01:21:58] time where you simply sit with yourself,

[01:22:01] silent,

[01:22:02] still present.

[01:22:05] This is your time to be utterly selfish.

[01:22:09] This is your time to go inward,

[01:22:12] to meditate, to reflect, to simply be.

[01:22:18] And if you are sincere, if you are

[01:22:20] regular, if you are committed, this time

[01:22:24] will transform your whole life. Because

[01:22:27] these 30 minutes of utter selfishness

[01:22:30] will fill you so much that the remaining

[01:22:33] 23 and a half hours

[01:22:36] you will be overflowing.

[01:22:39] You will be giving not from duty but

[01:22:42] from abundance.

[01:22:44] Not from should but from overflow.

[01:22:48] So make this commitment.

[01:22:52] Commit to being utterly selfish for at

[01:22:55] least sometime every day. Protect this

[01:22:59] time. Guard this time.

[01:23:03] Let nothing and no one disturb this

[01:23:06] time. This is your time for

[01:23:09] transformation,

[01:23:10] your time for revolution,

[01:23:13] your time for becoming yourself.

[01:23:16] And everything else in your life will be

[01:23:19] enriched because of this time. Your work

[01:23:22] will become more creative.

[01:23:25] Your relationships will become more

[01:23:27] authentic.

[01:23:28] Your life will become more meaningful.

[01:23:32] Not because you are trying to make it

[01:23:34] so, but because you are becoming so.

[01:23:39] And finally, I want to leave you with

[01:23:42] one last insight.

[01:23:44] Being utterly selfish is not just about

[01:23:48] your spiritual growth.

[01:23:51] It is about your contribution to

[01:23:53] humanity.

[01:23:54] Yes, you heard me right.

[01:23:58] The most selfish act is also the most

[01:24:01] generous act.

[01:24:03] Because when you transform yourself, you

[01:24:06] are not just transforming one

[01:24:08] individual.

[01:24:10] You are raising the consciousness of the

[01:24:12] whole planet.

[01:24:14] Consciousness is not individual.

[01:24:17] Consciousness is collective.

[01:24:20] When one person becomes enlightened,

[01:24:23] the whole consciousness of humanity

[01:24:25] rises a little bit.

[01:24:27] Like when you throw a stone in a lake,

[01:24:31] ripples spread to the farthest shores.

[01:24:36] When you become a light, that light does

[01:24:39] not stay confined to you. It spreads.

[01:24:43] It touches everyone.

[01:24:46] Even people who never meet you, even

[01:24:49] people who never hear about you because

[01:24:52] consciousness is one.

[01:24:54] So by being utterly selfish,

[01:24:58] by focusing completely on your own

[01:25:00] transformation,

[01:25:02] you are doing the greatest service to

[01:25:05] humanity

[01:25:06] far greater than any charity work, any

[01:25:10] social service, any missionary activity

[01:25:14] because those things work on the

[01:25:16] surface.

[01:25:18] They might feed a few hungry people.

[01:25:22] They might shelter a few homeless

[01:25:24] people. They might educate a few poor

[01:25:27] children and that is good. That is

[01:25:31] needed.

[01:25:33] But transformation works at the root.

[01:25:37] When you transform yourself, you

[01:25:39] transform consciousness itself.

[01:25:42] And when consciousness transforms,

[01:25:46] everything transforms.

[01:25:48] Hunger disappears.

[01:25:50] Homelessness disappears.

[01:25:53] Poverty disappears.

[01:25:56] Not through charity but through

[01:25:58] transformation.

[01:26:00] Not through giving but through becoming.

[01:26:04] This is the ultimate secret.

[01:26:06] Be utterly selfish. Not for your own

[01:26:10] sake alone but for the sake of all

[01:26:13] existence.

[01:26:15] Because you are not separate from

[01:26:17] existence. When you rise, existence

[01:26:21] rises with you. When you fall, existence

[01:26:25] falls with you. You are not an island.

[01:26:29] You are part of the whole.

[01:26:31] And the most selfish thing you can do is

[01:26:35] also the most altruistic thing you can

[01:26:37] do. So I end where I began. Be utterly

[01:26:43] selfish.

[01:26:45] This is my blessing to you.

[01:26:47] This is my teaching. This is the path.

[01:26:52] And this path leads to enlightenment.

[01:26:55] Not for the sake of others, but for your

[01:26:58] own sake. For the joy of it, for the

[01:27:02] celebration of it, for the simple

[01:27:06] beautiful fact that this is what you

[01:27:08] were born to do, to flower, to bloom, to

[01:27:13] become fully yourself.

[01:27:15] And when you become fully yourself, you

[01:27:19] become a gift to existence. Not because

[01:27:22] you tried, but because you are. This is

[01:27:26] the beauty of true selfishness.

[01:27:29] It is not against others. It is for

[01:27:32] yourself.

[01:27:34] And when you are truly for yourself,

[01:27:38] you naturally become a blessing for all.

[01:27:42] Because a candle that is lit does not

[01:27:44] choose who receives its light.

[01:27:48] The light simply spreads

[01:27:50] to whoever has eyes to see, to whoever

[01:27:54] has the readiness to receive. And that

[01:27:57] is enough. That is more than enough.

[01:28:01] That is everything.
