# The Last 10 Rules You Will Ever Need to Easily Break 90 Every Time (It's Like Cheating)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaUsq13Dozs

[00:00] This is the number one ranked golf coach, a member of the coaching hall of fame, and one of the most accomplished coaches in golf history.
[00:05] And today, he's showing me 10 easy rules that I guarantee will have you breaking 90 or your next scoring milestone.
[00:10] And another guy go from 115 down to 80.
[00:12] Damn, that's crazy.
[00:14] 30 strokes.
[00:15] In our lesson, Will reveals the simple scoring method he invented, coaching the world's best golfers.
[00:19] This is the path to eliminating doubles and triples.
[00:22] Hidden secrets that pro golfers do to hit it straighter and longer with absolutely zero swing changes.
[00:26] This guy, this is what I'm talking about.
[00:30] Potential and solves the number one biggest problem amitters face.
[00:32] How to actually take your best swings from the range out to the golf course.
[00:37] Get it together, man.
[00:39] Just looking for a 10 in commitment.
[00:40] Come on, commit 10.
[00:42] 10.
[00:42] By the end, he reveals one rule that can instantly shave off five strokes in your next round.
[00:46] A rule he only discovered after a shocking life and death experience.
[00:50] My wife screamed to me, "This is it."
[00:52] I yelled, "No, we let go of each other."
[00:54] Pitch black, experiencing the end of my life.
[00:55] Oh my god.
[00:56] Yeah.
[00:58] And it all starts on the spur of nine.
[01:00] Holes that we play today.
[01:05] Look at this guy.
[01:06] What a stripe show.
[01:09] What a show off.
[01:10] What a show off right here.
[01:17] All right, we're off to the races.
[01:20] Okay, so give us a little preview of what everyone's going to be kind of getting into here today.
[01:24] What am I getting into?
[01:25] What are we getting into is I think that you know my biggest thing for today is teaching you how to score.
[01:30] And what I mean by that is that I think a lot of golf instruction is really focused on the golf swing, right?
[01:37] I would say most golf pros, they're actually swing technicians.
[01:40] They're working with you on their golf swing and your technique.
[01:43] And what we're seeing is kind of in the golf industry, you know, golf score has kind of been left behind, right?
[01:48] People aren't going out there with their golf pro on the course and actually being told how to get the ball in the hole, how to avoid trouble, how to play to your strengths, how to avoid your weaknesses, how to do all the things you need to do.
[01:59] So, it's
[02:01] Kind of like the most important part of the game, right?
[02:03] We can stripe it on a driving range, head to the first hole and hit terrible shots.
[02:05] So, what I want to do today is teach you like how do we maximize your scoring ability?
[02:09] How do we get you to get in the ball in the hole in less shots?
[02:10] Um, and that's probably going to go against some of the things that you think.
[02:14] And the simple strategy Will shares after this hole does exactly that.
[02:19] It goes against everything I believed about golf when I started playing 3 years ago.
[02:22] It's also why Will strangely hit a 5iron off the tea while I pulled driver.
[02:27] It's almost been 3 years since I left my regular 9 toive desk job and invested my entire life savings to get help from the world's greatest golf coaches to chase a seemingly impossible dream to become a scratch golfer starting with zero golf experience.
[02:38] The problem, I'm not even halfway there, and my time and savings is running out.
[02:42] If I can't break through, start making faster progress, and get to scratch, I'm going to end up broke 5 years out of the workforce with nothing but a bag of well-used golf clubs to show for it.
[02:51] Which is why my current PGA Tour coach, Chris, recommended me to speak with Will and learn the unique blueprint he created on how to play golf.
[02:58] Will's strategies have produced incredible results, including
[03:01] Helping one player drop 30 strokes in just 10 weeks.
[03:04] That's just insane.
[03:06] After analyzing my game on this opening hole, he'll share 10 rules that I believe can dramatically improve your game, too.
[03:12] And by rule six, I'll reveal the real reason I'm on this journey in the first place.
[03:16] A lesson that took me 3 years to understand.
[03:27] Make it.
[03:27] Make it.
[03:27] Make it.
[03:27] Make it.
[03:27] Make it.
[03:28] Make it.
[03:28] Make it.
[03:28] Make it.
[03:28] Make it.
[03:30] That's as slow as you can get it to that ridge.
[03:32] Yeah.
[03:32] Oh, I missed my point a little bit over there, though.
[03:44] Settle.
[03:44] Settle.
[03:47] Sit.
[03:47] Sit.
[03:50] Yeah.
[03:51] Your pace, my line.
[03:51] We might have been doing something.
[03:53] Yeah, exactly.
[04:00] Come on.
[04:00] Drip in there.
[04:03] Just a little up the hill, right?
[04:05] Yep.
[04:10] Oh, you dirty.
[04:15] Dirty right there.
[04:18] And now we head to one of the most challenging holes on the course.
[04:19] After analyzing my game and identifying the same problems most amateurs don't even realize they have.
[04:25] Will reveals the first of his 10 rules to instantly start lowering your scores.
[04:28] Yeah.
[04:28] So, I mean, I would say if we look back on that hole, right?
[04:30] You haven't played golf the last week.
[04:32] You were at a wedding.
[04:33] You had a lesson before that.
[04:35] You're on the range.
[04:35] She was saying your swing's not there.
[04:37] Yeah.
[04:38] She's a little bit like a lot of thinking.
[04:39] Swing doesn't feel very comfortable right now.
[04:42] Yes.
[04:42] There's OB on the left.
[04:42] So, if there's OB on the left, probably we're going to block it right.
[04:46] Mhm.
[04:46] Mhm.
[04:47] We can't get to the green in two.
[04:49] Mhm.
[04:49] So, we're going to take driver and bring the risk of what I I chipped a five iron.
[04:53] Chipped a five iron and hit a gap wedge onto the green.
[04:56] Yeah.
[04:56] And Yeah.
[04:56] We got on top of the tier.
[04:58] I get it.
[04:58] But it was it was just a simple plane.
[05:00] No problems ever going to happen.
[05:02] Yeah.
[05:02] And I think what happens is as a
[05:04] Nine handicap, you're thinking like, I got to get out there and take advantage of the par five first hole.
[05:08] I'd be saying to you is like, no, what you need to do here is not make a double bogey.
[05:11] So, I loved your five iron layup onto the hole.
[05:13] And I don't mind the three part because it's like, hey, you got on top of the ridge.
[05:15] It's like it's just it's very difficult part.
[05:17] But my thing is I would say that you took way too much risk off of that first hole for not a ton of reward.
[05:24] Gotcha.
[05:24] Does it make sense?
[05:24] Yeah.
[05:25] And so for me, what I was doing there was just showing you that I could just hit a five iron, a five iron, gap wedge onto the green and do the same as what you did and get closer and get closer.
[05:32] But also my anxiety or worry was zero cuz I can't snap a five iron out of bounds.
[05:37] And I mean maybe I can, but I mean you know what I'm saying?
[05:39] So for me is I love the way you hit the driver.
[05:42] But if you go off into the trees on the right now, you're just trying to salvage.
[05:45] Can I get out?
[05:46] Can I hook it around the tree?
[05:47] Can I slice it around the tree?
[05:49] All to lay up to the same place with a wedge.
[05:51] Yeah.
[05:51] Yeah, cuz you hit a really good drive and you still couldn't get there with a threewood cuz it was 237 uphill and there's trouble left and right.
[05:57] So I would I would just say for us there is like one of the biggest ways that people destroy their rounds is they play too aggressive on the first couple holes.
[06:03] I see.
[06:03] Do you know what I mean?
[06:04] And then they.
[06:04] Get after it and then they struggle.
[06:06] So rule number one to help you forever break 90 or your next scoring milestone.
[06:10] Don't start aggressive.
[06:10] Rome wasn't built in one day.
[06:12] Stack small wins, build momentum.
[06:14] Great success comes to those who wait.
[06:16] Okay, so this is the hardest hole in the course objectively.
[06:20] Yep.
[06:20] You are, if you miss it right, you're out of bounds.
[06:23] Miss it left, you're out of bounds.
[06:24] Um, and there is either you hit a good drive or 3-wood straight in order to get about 150, 60, 70 in or you just hit like a fivewood, five iron, and you'll have like 200 left.
[06:40] But you'll be safe.
[06:41] Come on.
[06:41] What would you really do?
[06:42] You know what I I would really do I've done is like I'm hitting driver because uh let's see.
[06:47] Come on.
[06:47] Let's see it.
[06:52] Oh, snap hook.
[06:55] And that's that's it.
[06:55] That's the the big risk.
[06:58] All right.
[06:58] So, let's let's let's talk here cuz this is this is exactly kind of where I would be saying scoring.
[07:04] Okay.
[07:04] Yes.
[07:05] So, the reason why stroke index one, the science behind that is when they come and do the handicapping systems, they come out here and they figured out that this is the hardest hole on the course.
[07:14] But my point is is that this is the hole that you aren't going to beat.
[07:16] So, you're a nine handicap.
[07:17] So you get a shot on the first.
[07:19] So your six was a five.
[07:21] Oh, okay.
[07:22] Right.
[07:22] I see.
[07:23] So you're still on with your handicap.
[07:24] This is stroke index one.
[07:26] This is basically saying to you, this is the hole that most people triple and quadruple and everything.
[07:29] This is not the hole that you try and flick in the eye to piss off cuz it's going to come and hurt you.
[07:35] Okay.
[07:35] Got it.
[07:36] So what we want to do on this hole is be like, look, the biggest thing for you to go from a nine to a, let's say, a four, just to split your handicap in half, is we got to take double bogeies off the scorecard.
[07:44] We have to take triple bogeies off the scorecard.
[07:46] And now what you've done here is that yes, you might pull it off.
[07:50] Yeah.
[07:51] But my point is now the stress is over the top.
[07:52] It's like, oh, you know, versus if you take out a two iron or a three iron, a hybrid, and just bunt it down the fairway and just play for I'm just going to make a bogey here.
[08:02] Yeah.
[08:02] Cuz cuz I get a stroke.
[08:04] This is what a stroke index means.
[08:05] It's like, so it's a
[08:06] Five net four.
[08:07] Now, when you get to our stroke index 15, the hole after that, and 13 and 17, and these are the holes that you can be aggressive on.
[08:14] Oh, I see.
[08:14] But I would be saying to you that what we're doing here is we're tempting fate.
[08:17] Now if you were a zero handicap, you don't get a shot here.
[08:19] So a scratch I would say at their level could do this.
[08:23] But also, let's say this was the 13th hole or the eighth hole and you're warmed up.
[08:27] You're hitting your driver good.
[08:28] Yeah.
[08:29] But we're not warmed up yet.
[08:29] You haven't played a ton of golf.
[08:31] So now we're in trouble.
[08:32] Does that make sense?
[08:33] Now we're going to fight to not make a double or triple bogey.
[08:36] M.
[08:36] And throughout these nine holes, we'll not only share simple tips you'll be shocked you haven't been using, but also the complete strategy that's helped tens of thousands of golfers lower their scores, along with a clear practice plan that can save you hundreds of wasted hours on the range.
[08:53] So, I mean, I just know that I can put a two iron in play on this hole every single time.
[08:57] Yeah.
[08:58] Yeah.
[08:58] Yeah.
[08:58] And so, this is what I call first gear.
[09:00] First gear golf.
[09:01] So, I can just put myself in play.
[09:04] Now, second gear would be, okay, I take my
[09:06] Fivewood.
[09:07] Third gear would be I take my 3wood.
[09:09] Driver would be my fourth gear.
[09:09] But my point is like I still feel like I'm in the parking lot.
[09:12] I don't need to be going in fourth gear at 85 mph crashing into into cars.
[09:16] You know what I'm saying?
[09:17] My first ball.
[09:18] Yeah, like your first one.
[09:19] So, what do we do?
[09:19] Is it Is it a hazard or is it Is it out of bounds?
[09:22] I think that's out of bounds.
[09:23] We got to rete him here.
[09:24] Yeah, rete.
[09:25] Just made break his heart right there.
[09:26] Tell him he's got to rete.
[09:29] And before we see this next T-shot along with important tips Will soon gives me, I want to tell you something real quick.
[09:34] Because if you want improve in golf, this is one of those things you don't realize you need until you try it.
[09:37] I was on Teemo the other day and found some gear that's actually been a total game changer for me.
[09:42] Before we dive in, don't forget you can grab Teimu's $100 promo bundle for new and existing users.
[09:46] Just click the link in the description or scan the QR code on screen and type my promo code into the search bar.
[09:50] You'll instantly unlock your coupon bundle.
[09:52] But until then, I've been using this golf training ball, which makes your swing feel way more connected for consistency.
[09:58] Then there's this putting practice court, which I use to make sure all my putts start online.
[10:01] Most golfers either overpay at pro shops or get cheap gear that breaks after a couple rounds.
[10:05] But
[10:06] This stuff, solid quality, super affordable, and it actually works.
[10:10] So remember, make sure to use my promo code when you search to get your $100 coupon bundle today.
[10:13] So with that, let's get back to the round.
[10:15] Now, be honest with me.
[10:17] What would you do now if if you if you retain?
[10:19] You taking driver again cuz you're frustrated and you're going to try and pull it off or one thing was like uh I either take uh my four hybrid or I would take my driver and tee it up low and see if I could just like cut it.
[10:33] So you're let's just say again we got to get you into tournaments.
[10:34] You're playing against your buddies.
[10:36] You're a little bit frustrated.
[10:37] What do you actually do?
[10:38] I don't know.
[10:39] You pick.
[10:39] What would you actually do?
[10:40] I what I would actually do is like I would tee down the driver and try and put cool.
[10:44] Let's go and see it.
[10:49] Stay there.
[10:49] Stay there.
[10:49] Stay there.
[10:50] Stay there.
[10:50] Stay there.
[10:54] Yeah.
[10:54] So, I I mean, I know I can't get there.
[10:55] I'm just laying up just short right of the green.
[10:57] Give myself a decent chip onto the green.
[10:58] Right.
[10:58] That's just the Just try and put myself in a good position to score.
[11:07] Little right of where I'd have liked, but good shot.
[11:23] Okay, decent out.
[11:24] There it is.
[11:25] So, here's here's the big thing that I would say is that the the issue with how we measure scores in golf statistically is we talk about greens and regulation.
[11:32] Yeah.
[11:33] Okay.
[11:33] So, the best players in the world, how many greens do they hit around?
[11:34] What percentage they hit?
[11:37] I don't know, like 12 out of 18.
[11:37] 148.
[11:40] Yeah.
[11:40] Yeah.
[11:40] So, 71% is like the best on tour.
[11:42] Scotty was a little bit higher last year.
[11:44] 13 greens.
[11:46] Yeah.
[11:46] And they're averaging a n into the green.
[11:49] So, what we do is we get up on the hole is how amateur golfers and go, "Well, I'm meant to get on the screen in two."
[11:53] It's like, "No, you're not meant to get on the screen in two."
[11:54] No.
[11:55] Okay.
[11:55] Because a tour player does it 13 of 18 times with a nine iron or less, right?
[11:59] And we've got a four hybrid into the green.
[12:01] So, what we want to do in a round of golf is get you in a position to score 18 times a round.
[12:08] Okay.
[12:08] And what I mean by position to score is in regulation inside of 100 yards.
[12:14] Okay.
[12:15] Okay.
[12:16] Got it.
[12:16] So, if you do that and I pitch this one for the green and I two putt, what do I make?
[12:20] Four.
[12:20] No.
[12:20] So, if I'm here in two, yeah, I make a bogey, right?
[12:23] Five.
[12:23] Yeah.
[12:23] So, my point is it takes double bogeys off the scorecard.
[12:25] So, the first thing that we got to learn how to do is take a double bogey and a triple off the scorecard.
[12:29] And what we do is we need to lower our expectations.
[12:31] Not get aggressive and try and get on the green in two.
[12:34] I want you to go ahead and get around the green in two.
[12:37] It might be on the fringe.
[12:38] It might be on the green.
[12:39] It might be 25, 30, 40, 50, but it's not out of bounds, not in a hazard where you can't score from.
[12:43] Does that make sense?
[12:44] Yep.
[12:44] That makes sense.
[12:45] So now here I am at 75.
[12:45] So my goal again here is can I put this one up on the green in position to two putt.
[12:50] If I can one putt, that'd be fantastic.
[12:51] But realistically, it's hard on the course we're trying to take away double bogey.
[12:54] Okay.
[12:54] Does that make sense?
[12:55] Yep, that makes sense.
[13:00] Oh, go in.
[13:00] Oh, wait.
[13:04] Pretty decent.
[13:04] Second.
[13:07] That was crazy.
[13:07] All right.
[13:12] Oh, that is so good.
[13:17] That was cheeky cheeky good right there.
[13:19] Statistically, I'm not going to make this part.
[13:21] It's 18 ft with a foot and a half, if not more, break.
[13:23] So, what we're saying is is that play yourself into position.
[13:26] It didn't hit a great shot into there.
[13:29] Wedged up to here.
[13:31] And again, I don't expect to make this putt.
[13:33] Like, I mean, this is not a makeable putt.
[13:34] It's 15 18 ft downhill with break in it.
[13:36] So, again, what I'll see is just cozy it down there.
[13:39] Make the bogey.
[13:41] You've got a nine handicap, which means you get a stroke, right?
[13:44] And then just get out of there with the bogey.
[13:46] Five net four, right?
[13:52] Don't go in.
[13:55] It's not meant to go in.
[13:56] I was That's meant to be a five.
[13:58] But again, let's just be honest, J.
[14:01] Like nine out of 10 times it ends up here.
[14:03] I tap it and I make a five.
[14:05] Yeah.
[14:06] Great.
[14:06] I made a bogey net par.
[14:08] Does that make sense?
[14:09] So, it's not it's not about like, hey, way to go.
[14:11] It went in.
[14:11] It's more along the lines of
[14:12] How do I take out the stress?
[14:14] How do I take out the, you know, the hitting it out of bounds, hitting it over a corner, things like that.
[14:20] So, I'm going for every pin usually.
[14:23] But at least you're getting honest, right?
[14:25] And this is where most golfers who are say a seven, eight, nine handicap, they think to become a scratch, you got to play more aggressive.
[14:32] And what you've got to do is actually take the trouble out.
[14:33] That's really what your focus is to take the trouble out.
[14:39] Beautiful roll.
[14:41] Great putt.
[14:46] All right.
[14:46] So, what do we have?
[14:47] We had three off the tea, four short, five into the bunker.
[14:52] Seven, six up, seven.
[14:53] All right, here's a here's a thought.
[14:56] Can we head back to the T-box and go and play it again and play it a little differently?
[14:59] Yeah, let's do it.
[14:59] And as we reset on this hole, I take a long iron instead of a driver.
[15:03] The same decision Will made back on hole one.
[15:05] That leads us straight into rule two, which he'll break down right after this shot.
[15:10] So again, now let's get fully committed to it.
[15:11] Pick the target out in the middle.
[15:13] Of that bunker, right?
[15:15] And let's just go ahead and rip a nice iron right down the middle of that fairway.
[15:20] Beautiful.
[15:21] Oh, was too much.
[15:22] That's fine.
[15:22] That's not gonna get in the trouble.
[15:26] Okay.
[15:26] If you hit three wood on that line, where are you?
[15:28] Three wood on that line, I'm over that.
[15:31] But maybe in the junk, right?
[15:32] Or in the junk.
[15:33] Probably more in the junk.
[15:34] So, yeah.
[15:34] So, here's what I want to explain, right?
[15:36] This is not, oh, I want you to take a five iron off every tea box or lay up on every hole.
[15:40] What I'm saying is there are gears to the game.
[15:43] Yeah.
[15:44] And we're not always going to be in fourth gear.
[15:45] We've got to learn how to get a tough hole when we haven't played in a while.
[15:49] When we're not very confident about our golf swing and figure out, put it in play.
[15:55] Chip putt putt.
[15:55] Make a bogey.
[15:57] Get the heck out of here.
[15:58] Let's get to a short par four or reachable par five and try and score.
[16:00] Gotcha.
[16:00] Gotcha.
[16:01] Thoughts on this?
[16:01] No, it's great.
[16:01] I mean, if I pulled that a little bit more with any of the other clubs, that's gone.
[16:06] Yeah, that's instantly gone.
[16:06] And that club right there, uh that area right there, I could lay up again right in front of the green.
[16:13] Exactly.
[16:14] Yeah.
[16:14] Yeah.
[16:14] And my thing then would be is you then go to the driving range and work on your technique.
[16:17] So instead of having hit a five iron off the tea, you can hit a two hybrid.
[16:21] And then once you can get to a two hybrid, you can hit a three-wood.
[16:24] And then when you hit your threewood, you can hit a driver.
[16:25] So the goal is is take what you have currently and apply it to what's in front of you.
[16:30] Yeah.
[16:30] Rather than like, well, I should hit a driver cuz that's what people hit on this hole.
[16:33] Gotcha.
[16:33] Gotcha.
[16:33] So rule number two, don't be like everyone else.
[16:35] The best path is rarely the most popular one.
[16:39] Great decisions often look strange before they look smart.
[16:41] Become a trailblazer.
[16:43] Point is, we're not trying to get there in regulation anyway.
[16:44] Got because of how difficult this hole is.
[16:47] Got it.
[16:47] Got it.
[16:47] That makes sense.
[16:48] All right.
[16:48] You can't win a tournament in the first five holes, but you can lose it.
[16:52] Oh, I see.
[16:52] But none of these insights Will is giving me will stick unless you understand what he teaches on the next hole.
[16:57] And the two simple games he wants you to play in your next round to finally start dropping your handicap.
[17:02] And our goal is get into a position that we can score.
[17:05] Right?
[17:05] That's it.
[17:05] Get into a position.
[17:07] We're inside of 100 yards.
[17:09] Yeah, definitely that right side of the fairway seemed better, right?
[17:11] Because it was an easier shot into the green.
[17:14] Yeah.
[17:14] Now, fully committed to this swing.
[17:17] See that target and trust it.
[17:29] Beautiful.
[17:32] Nice play.
[17:32] Yeah.
[17:33] Yep.
[17:33] Very good.
[17:34] Now, let's just pretend you got aggressive then.
[17:35] Like, you know what?
[17:36] Maybe I hit an eight eye and you hit it on that line.
[17:37] Where's your ball right now?
[17:39] I think that's in the rough or in the...
[17:41] No, just short of the rough.
[17:41] But if you hit an eight eye, it been in the trees, wouldn't it?
[17:43] Oh, yes.
[17:43] Yes.
[17:44] So, my point being is like, why get aggressive when it doesn't pay off, right?
[17:48] 100%.
[17:48] Okay, that makes sense.
[17:49] So, we we've got to start to say to you, well, the work you're doing on your swing is developing you to get better skill sets so you hit the ball further and straighter.
[17:56] What we get out here, we got to play with what you have.
[17:58] Okay.
[17:59] And so, most people are playing out of their comfort zone.
[18:01] Yeah.
[18:01] And so, what most people are looking for is, hey, I want more confidence.
[18:03] And what we're really saying is no, you need more competence.
[18:07] Okay guys, because with the pitching wedge, you could do that nine out of 10 times.
[18:10] But if I gave you a seven iron there, three of them are lost, four of them are...
[18:15] Over there, and three are short of the green.
[18:17] And it's like, well, there was we've got to go on percentages on data so you make better decisions, right?
[18:21] And not just on hope.
[18:22] And what what I what I see with a lot of single-digit handicappers is their their swing is a three or four handicap.
[18:29] Their scoring ability, the way they think and strategize a golf course is a 12.
[18:34] So they end up as a nine.
[18:36] Gotcha.
[18:37] Gotcha.
[18:38] That's So what we're trying to do is maximize your strategy, right?
[18:40] Yeah.
[18:41] Right now we got 79.
[18:43] 79.
[18:43] Playing a little bit a little bit of wind.
[18:45] Yeah.
[18:45] Against But but you wouldn't want to get too far past the greens are firm, right?
[18:48] So if it landed at 75, it' probably just release out to 80.
[18:51] Yeah.
[18:53] So I'm thinking um right now would be a 58 10:00 shot would be about a 72.
[18:59] Perfect.
[18:59] Yeah.
[18:59] Yeah, let's try that.
[19:01] Okay, I like it.
[19:08] Oh, that's beautiful.
[19:11] Yeah.
[19:13] And some zip.
[19:14] There it is.
[19:15] Look at that.
[19:15] But but just
[19:18] Think about how simple is this hole so far.
[19:19] Never had a chance to hit it in the trouble.
[19:21] Never took the risk to try and.
[19:23] Okay, you get it to 30 yards.
[19:25] Are you that much better from 30 than 70?
[19:27] No.
[19:27] No.
[19:27] Are you that much better from 27 instead of 56?
[19:29] No.
[19:30] Yeah.
[19:31] Can I two putt that one here?
[19:31] I'm blow the hole.
[19:32] Easy two putt.
[19:32] Get out of here.
[19:34] We've got to start to play.
[19:36] Yeah.
[19:37] Just breathe.
[19:39] And we have that par.
[19:39] Exactly.
[19:41] So, when you putt um and you're thinking about the scoring, do you like I'm like I want to miss it like 3 ft to the left, three to the right?
[19:48] Does it matter for you or do you just want to get there?
[19:50] Yeah.
[19:50] I I would definitely be saying on a pretty straight putt like this, I think it's too much.
[19:53] But, you know, I'm definitely going to be looking at like what part do I not want to leave myself?
[19:57] Like a downhill, you know, I'm not going to try and charge this one at the hole cuz if I go 4 ft past, it's a bit of a quick one.
[20:03] Yeah.
[20:04] But yeah, I I'm again, it's what 25 ft 20 to 25 ft putt.
[20:07] Just the goal is just lag it up there, tap it in.
[20:10] Let's get out of here.
[20:12] Super simple.
[20:12] Five.
[20:22] I was hesitant on that one.
[20:24] All right. Left over knocker right here.
[20:25] We got this one.
[20:29] Okay. How boring and basic is that?
[20:32] Right.
[20:33] Yeah. That was
[20:33] And again, I'm not saying on every hole
[20:35] take a five iron, but what I am saying
[20:37] is let's start to make calculated risk,
[20:41] right? Versus just take a drive. I'm
[20:42] going to grab this tea.
[20:43] Calculated risk is the key to the next
[20:45] rule and the foundation of Will's entire
[20:47] system, the scoring method. This is what
[20:49] everything today builds on.
[20:50] Understanding it is the first real step
[20:52] towards shooting your lowest scores.
[20:53] Okay. So kind of break me down through
[20:55] your entire process or part of the
[20:57] process.
[20:58] So the concept is is that people don't
[20:59] have a strategy to score. Okay.
[21:00] They just don't. They go on a golf
[21:02] course and they go holes a par four.
[21:03] It's really hard. I'll hit driver. I'll
[21:04] rip it.
[21:05] What we're saying is is that the first
[21:07] there's two games that you got to play.
[21:09] One is can I get into a position to
[21:11] score?
[21:11] Okay.
[21:11] Okay. The second is can I get down in
[21:14] three from that position to score.
[21:15] If I do that, remember on a par four get
[21:17] within said 100 yards in regulation.
[21:19] Yeah.
[21:20] Okay. I can go ahead and get down in
[21:22] three and make a bogey. If all I get are
[21:24] bogeies on on the golf course, you're
[21:26] going to be shooting under 80, right?
[21:27] Cuz you're going to get seven or eight
[21:28] pars, a couple birdies. It's the triples
[21:29] that kill us.
[21:30] So, what we're seeing here on the
[21:31] scorecard is the concept of this is on
[21:33] that second hole,
[21:34] were we inside the scoring zone in two
[21:37] strokes cuz it was a par four. Yes, we
[21:38] were. Well done.
[21:39] Okay.
[21:40] Okay. Once in the scoring zone, did it
[21:41] take us three shots to get down? Yes, it
[21:44] did. Way to go. We made a five.
[21:46] Okay.
[21:47] Two putts. So, what we physically do on
[21:49] the scorecard is we take away even the
[21:52] score. All we have is checks and x's.
[21:53] Did you succeed or did you fail?
[21:55] Okay.
[21:56] Because here's the thing is if you're if
[21:57] you shoot one over and you're seven
[21:59] holes into the round, you're super
[22:00] anxious. Like you're playing good golf.
[22:01] Like, oh my god, I'm I'm even par.
[22:03] Yeah.
[22:04] If you're 12 over, you're super
[22:05] frustrated.
[22:06] So, why know the score? All I want to do
[22:08] is go, can we get in a position to score
[22:10] right here? What are we going to do to
[22:12] get inside of 100? Yeah.
[22:13] Okay. Once we're there, that game's
[22:15] over. Now, go ahead. Can you get the
[22:17] ball in three or less? So, this is the
[22:19] path to eliminating doubles and triples.
[22:21] Okay, got it. Got it. Got it.
[22:22] So, what we're going to do on this hole
[22:23] is again, what have we got? We've got
[22:24] 350. So, realistically, if we go 250
[22:27] yards, we're inside the scoring zone.
[22:29] But my goal for you is I want you to go
[22:31] as far as you possibly can, but we're
[22:32] not allowed to get into trouble.
[22:33] Okay. Okay.
[22:34] Let's do it.
[22:34] So, what would you normally hit on this
[22:35] hole?
[22:36] Driver for sure.
[22:36] Okay. So, let's go ahead hit a driver.
[22:38] With that, rule number three is take
[22:40] away the score. Be addicted to the
[22:42] process, not the outcome. Focus only on
[22:44] what you can control. and the stress
[22:46] starts to disappear.
[22:56] Oh, I mean that's a that's not a three
[22:59] handicap swing. That's a scratch
[23:01] handicap swing right there.
[23:09] Oh man, you have such a beautiful swing,
[23:11] man. You have like a baby draw on lock.
[23:14] With both of us hitting pure shots off
[23:16] the tea and introducing the score
[23:18] method, I want to proudly announce
[23:20] something I've been personally building
[23:21] for all of you guys. Something that I
[23:23] believe is going to be the most valuable
[23:24] resource I've ever built. Many of you
[23:26] guys know I've given up everything to go
[23:28] allin to becoming a scratch golfer. I
[23:30] spent thousands of hours training,
[23:32] invested over $100,000 into improving my
[23:35] game, and worked with some of the
[23:36] world's greatest golf coaches. And along
[23:38] the way, I realized something important.
[23:40] Most golfers aren't struggling because
[23:42] of talent. It's because they lack proper
[23:44] direction. Wait, which way is the next
[23:46] hole?
[23:50] That's why I'm building the clubhouse, a
[23:52] premier community where I distill
[23:54] everything I learned and the most
[23:55] important lessons I get from the world's
[23:57] greatest golf coaches and players.
[24:00] And most importantly, you will have
[24:02] access to me every day. I'll create
[24:04] custom videos for you, respond to text
[24:06] messages, and even have live calls to
[24:08] answer your questions. So, if you want
[24:10] to be part of something I truly believe
[24:11] is special, scan the QR code on screen
[24:14] or check out the link in the description
[24:15] to join the clubhouse today.
[24:22] I'm not going to lie, I feel like golf
[24:24] has also become this like, oh man,
[24:26] people hitting driver, I got to hit
[24:27] driver, you know? I want to like
[24:28] and again, I want to get you to drive as
[24:30] soon as I possibly can. But the thing
[24:31] is, if we went skiing or snowboarding
[24:34] and you were falling on a bunny run, the
[24:35] last thing I'd say to you is like,
[24:36] "Look, you're a guy. you should go to a
[24:37] double black diamond and go to the top
[24:39] of the mountain. That's not what I'd say
[24:40] to someone. I'd be like, "Hey man, just
[24:42] get safely down the bunny run and in an
[24:43] hour we'll be on the green run and after
[24:45] lunch we'll be on the blue run and maybe
[24:46] tomorrow you'll be on a black run." But
[24:48] most people going to the top of the
[24:49] mountain and falling all the way down
[24:51] completely out of control. And so my
[24:53] thing is that the quicker you get first
[24:54] gear, the quicker you can get out of it.
[24:56] But you can always drop back if you're
[24:58] like, "Hey, you know what? I'm playing
[24:59] really good. I just need a bogey down
[25:01] the last two holes to break 80 or I need
[25:03] a bogey to win the match." Shift it back
[25:05] into a lower gear. And then the goal is
[25:07] get out of first ski and play more
[25:08] aggressive.
[25:09] Gotcha. Gotcha. It's funny that you do
[25:10] the comparison about the snowboarding
[25:11] because the first time I ever went
[25:13] snowboarding was with three of my best
[25:15] friends who one of them is a snowboard
[25:17] for Red Bull.
[25:18] Oh, good. That was a great day for you.
[25:20] Yeah.
[25:20] And so, uh, we were at the top of the
[25:22] triple black diamond. And I was like, I
[25:24] can do this. And, uh, he they go off of
[25:26] like this 20 foot jump all of them
[25:28] triple. And then I was like, I got this
[25:30] first time ever. And I go through it
[25:32] because they they told they didn't even
[25:33] think I was going to do it, but I was
[25:34] like kind of like my personality. I go
[25:37] through this 20 foot jump, go vertically
[25:38] up and I land on my ribs and I was like,
[25:41] "Okay, I'm done."
[25:42] So imagine if every time you hit a
[25:44] driver and you get out of bounds, I just
[25:45] punch through the ribs as hard as maybe
[25:47] you'd stop hitting drivers. I don't mind
[25:49] driver on this hole cuz you had plenty
[25:50] of plenty of space, right?
[25:52] You never know, man. I might do it three
[25:53] more times.
[25:54] Yeah, exactly. Just like I do it.
[26:01] Okay. Now, what do you think about that
[26:02] shot?
[26:04] Um, result wasn't the worst thing. I
[26:07] think I um I wanted to aim a little more
[26:09] right and I kind of
[26:10] a good miss.
[26:10] It was a good miss.
[26:11] Great miss, right?
[26:12] Yeah, man. Even with a slight miss, I'm
[26:14] still on the green. And I'm not going to
[26:15] lie, this method Will's teaching is
[26:17] shockingly simple. I can already feel my
[26:19] scores dropping next round. But what I
[26:21] didn't expect was what he told me
[26:22] heading to the next hole. his near-death
[26:24] experience and the life-changing moment
[26:26] that pulled him into coaching. A story
[26:28] that will motivate you no matter what
[26:30] you're chasing.
[26:36] That's a great pot.
[26:39] Boring,
[26:41] right?
[26:45] Nice.
[26:47] All right.
[26:47] All right, man. So, I uh I read
[26:49] something online
[26:51] uh and uh it might have been the
[26:53] craziest thing I've ever heard about a
[26:54] coach, but I I would love for you to
[26:56] share
[26:57] this uh that moment. It's it said that
[26:59] you on your honeymoon
[27:01] Yep.
[27:02] were almost died.
[27:04] Yeah.
[27:04] Because of a tsunami.
[27:05] Yes.
[27:06] And you survived.
[27:07] Yeah. It's, you know, for me, I went to
[27:09] Thailand. My wife and I just got
[27:11] married. Um went to Thailand for the
[27:13] honeymoon. I just signed that three-year
[27:15] sponsorship to go and play professional
[27:17] golf. Yeah,
[27:18] just bought a new home, just got a
[27:20] puppy. Life was just like beyond belief.
[27:22] It was the last day of our honeymoon.
[27:23] We're sitting there in the hotel lobby
[27:25] wondering like, "Hey, what what's the
[27:27] plan?" And uh next thing you know, with
[27:31] no no idea what was coming towards us,
[27:34] everybody starts screaming. Everybody
[27:35] starts jumping out, running out from
[27:37] behind the counter, run out of the
[27:38] hotel. They run out the hotel. We jump
[27:41] over the counter because I'm I have no
[27:43] idea what's happening. Is someone
[27:44] shooting or what's going on? And uh next
[27:47] thing you know, we're in one of the
[27:48] rooms and the biggest eruption you've
[27:51] ever heard. And uh yeah, a 354t tsunami
[27:55] smashed into the hotel that we're
[27:56] inside. My wife screamed to me right as
[27:59] it happened. This is it. I yelled, "No."
[28:01] And um I went straight through the wall
[28:04] and she went straight through the
[28:05] ceiling and we let go of each other and
[28:07] pitch black, rolling in pitch black,
[28:09] underwater, experiencing the end of my
[28:11] life.
[28:12] Oh my god. And so yeah, I was under
[28:15] water for probably well I know about 400
[28:17] yards came to my very last breath and
[28:19] just was like this is it and then popped
[28:21] up in the middle of the ocean and I was
[28:23] on the complete other side of the island
[28:24] gone the whole way across the island all
[28:25] the way out into the middle of the sea
[28:27] and my wife was 3 ft away from me alive
[28:30] triple pelvic fracture and we spent uh
[28:32] the next 10 or so hours in well from one
[28:36] got pulled into a boat by a guy Marcus
[28:38] Melberg pulled us into a boat and then
[28:39] we spent 10 hours out at sea watching
[28:41] the island get destroyed got back to a
[28:43] hospital. Spent 2 days in a hospital
[28:45] with no medication cuz they were out.
[28:47] And then evacuated up to Bangkok. Spent
[28:49] 31 days in hospital up there. Went back
[28:52] to America. Couldn't swing a golf club.
[28:54] So I started coaching and then that's
[28:55] how it all sort of started.
[28:57] Oh my god. That's that's first of all a
[28:59] miracle. I'm so glad you're here.
[29:01] Yeah, absolutely. Right.
[29:02] Which leads to rule number four. Be
[29:04] present. Cherish every moment and don't
[29:06] waste time worrying about what's ahead
[29:07] because you never really know what's
[29:08] coming in the future. And that story
[29:10] from Will is really just a reminder of
[29:11] how precious every moment is and why it
[29:13] doesn't help to constantly worry about
[29:15] what's ahead. Instead, it's about
[29:16] staying present. In the same way,
[29:18] focusing on a future score doesn't do
[29:19] much good. What matters is the shot
[29:21] right in front of you. All right, so
[29:22] take a look at this then. Right. So
[29:24] again,
[29:25] did you get in the scoring zone
[29:26] regulation? Yeah, you're on the green,
[29:27] so way to go. But it took you two shots.
[29:29] We don't We just need a check mark.
[29:30] You're in the You're on the green.
[29:32] Great. Did you get down in three or
[29:33] less? Yes, you did. Check mark. Okay. 2
[29:35] plus two is four. Made a par. Two parts.
[29:38] Here you go. So again, it's just the
[29:40] simplicity of we're going to start to
[29:41] give a system on how to score. Figure
[29:43] out where the scoring zone is. So let's
[29:45] look at this hole now. We're playing
[29:46] hole five, right?
[29:47] So it's only 344. So we could go 244 and
[29:51] we're inside the scoring zone, but our
[29:52] goal is not to go 24 to get as close to
[29:54] the greener on the green as possible,
[29:56] but we got to be in play every time.
[29:57] Does that make sense?
[29:58] Yep.
[29:58] Okay. So when you got back obviously
[30:02] close to your life taken from you.
[30:05] Yeah.
[30:06] What was your like perception on life
[30:07] after that? was perception on golf and
[30:09] well I was offered the opportunity to
[30:10] start teaching and I didn't want to take
[30:11] it cuz I didn't I want to play but I
[30:13] couldn't swing uh and then my wife got
[30:16] laid off as a school teacher we had no
[30:17] money and I thought probably yeah
[30:19] coaching would be a good idea right
[30:20] because I was broke uh and so I started
[30:23] teaching but what I saw was these guys
[30:24] come to the driving range and they're on
[30:26] the driving range confused as all heck
[30:28] frustrated as hell and they're putting
[30:30] the time money and effort in and not
[30:32] getting better and they're just all
[30:33] technical and all this and I'm like can
[30:35] I just take you to the golf course can I
[30:36] just go and show you how to because
[30:38] getting the ball in the hole is what I
[30:39] want to show you how to do.
[30:41] And just very quickly, I had I had guys
[30:43] going from, you know, 90 to 78 in three
[30:46] lessons.
[30:47] And people like, well, that's not
[30:48] possible. No, no, but he was a 78
[30:50] shooter, but his strategy was out of
[30:52] 102. So, he's losing four golf balls,
[30:54] having four three putts, not getting out
[30:55] of bunkers. So, work on his short game,
[30:57] give him better strategy, and he just
[30:59] plays to his potential.
[31:00] So, what I started to realize is like I
[31:02] look at people's potential, and then my
[31:03] goal is how do I get them out their own
[31:04] way? So my belief is the results inside
[31:06] of you as a coach. It's how do I get you
[31:08] out your own way and get you to play the
[31:10] golf you're capable of.
[31:11] Gotcha.
[31:19] Oh, this guy. This is what I'm talking
[31:22] about. Potential. That's hilarious.
[31:31] Should be just short of that bunk.
[31:32] Yeah, you're good. Yeah.
[31:36] Well, that came out hot.
[31:38] Oh, right at it.
[31:39] Socked. Sucked.
[31:42] I told you, man. Little hot.
[31:44] I told you he was flying 162, man. A
[31:46] little hot.
[31:47] Okay, so right now we have 72 yards to
[31:50] the pin here. Well, I was about to say
[31:53] old drum would go right at that little
[31:55] area right there.
[31:56] Yeah. Yeah. Now, I actually just
[31:58] literally just play it um a little left
[32:00] of this.
[32:00] So, I want you to think about where
[32:01] could you not miss here? Where would be
[32:02] the worst places to miss?
[32:04] The worst places to miss
[32:05] is if I go long for me, it's hard for me
[32:08] to do that.
[32:09] Right's dead. Short's dead. So, left is
[32:11] good. Yeah. A little bit past the flag
[32:14] stick probably, right? Like over the
[32:15] bunker. Right.
[32:16] Over the bunker. And even even a little
[32:18] bit more because if I hit that, it'll
[32:20] come back down.
[32:20] Absolutely.
[32:21] Yeah.
[32:28] Miss it.
[32:30] Okay. Now, here's the beauty of that.
[32:32] But here's the beauty of that, right?
[32:33] Yeah.
[32:34] Your target was longer and left than
[32:37] that.
[32:37] You hit it short right. If you were
[32:38] aiming at the flag, where does that ball
[32:40] go? And you hit it that much. Exactly.
[32:41] Short right. So the idea here is the
[32:43] dispersion
[32:45] needs to be where your shortest most
[32:47] right shot stills in play and you still
[32:48] have a putt for birdie.
[32:49] Yeah.
[32:50] So if you take on the aggressive shot
[32:51] here, you've just made probably turning
[32:53] this hole into a bogey or more or maybe
[32:55] a double. Right. So that to me is a
[32:58] great miss because it's like you picked
[32:59] a confident spot, you attacked it, and
[33:01] then you just hit it a little bit short,
[33:03] a little bit right, lands on the green,
[33:04] and releases past the hole.
[33:05] Yeah. Serendipity. That's what it is.
[33:07] Love it.
[33:08] Love it.
[33:19] Oh, you just do that and then do two
[33:21] putt it.
[33:22] Just two putt. Make my Remember, I'm
[33:23] looking for two checks on my scorecard.
[33:25] Oh, I see. That's just so simple.
[33:27] But how many times have you done this
[33:28] before where you hit the most perfect
[33:30] flop and it lands and sticks dead right
[33:32] there and then you put it to 25 ft? Or
[33:35] have you done the one where you skull
[33:37] the face straight across the green? Like
[33:39] the best I could do here is maybe 15 ft.
[33:43] So why bring the risk in?
[33:51] Don't go in. Oh no.
[33:54] That would have been terrible. You're
[33:56] probably going to have to come in around
[33:57] that point, aren't you?
[33:58] Yeah, that's basically where I I'm
[33:59] probably coming in at.
[34:06] That's got to be a good pot. Great pot.
[34:10] Jeez.
[34:14] Nicely done.
[34:15] Oh
[34:18] jeez.
[34:19] This these
[34:20] these greens are sick. Okay, so last
[34:22] hole is a par four. Took you two to get
[34:25] into the scoring zone. You're on the
[34:26] green. It took you two to get down.
[34:28] Check mark four. Two putts. Okay. And
[34:30] with another par in the books using this
[34:32] system, the biggest realization is how
[34:34] much calmer the entire round feels. The
[34:36] stress in my shoulders is gone. But
[34:38] where it really shows up is on the next
[34:40] hole when I start hitting bad shots and
[34:42] stress starts creeping in. What happens
[34:43] then? Will soon shows how this system
[34:45] resets all those expectation, regulates
[34:47] your emotions, and prevents these blow
[34:49] holes that ruin your score. because I
[34:51] have way too many of those. And it might
[34:53] be one of the most important keys you
[34:54] need if you ever want to get great at
[34:56] this game.
[35:06] Okay, it didn't go right. So,
[35:07] yeah,
[35:08] it's not going to hurt you. But I mean,
[35:10] so again, what I'm looking to show you
[35:11] today is just first gear golf,
[35:13] okay?
[35:14] Like, so you haven't played in a while.
[35:15] You're just just on these first few
[35:17] holes, right? How do I set up? And how
[35:18] do I just get the ball around? Taking
[35:20] the three iron off the tea
[35:26] and how do I just take all the stress
[35:27] out of golf? How do I just make pars
[35:29] bogeies? Yeah, the occasional bogey, but
[35:31] just there's never a chance of making
[35:33] anything more than a double. And then
[35:34] what we've got to strategize is which
[35:36] are the holes that you're going to play
[35:37] safe and which are the holes you're
[35:38] going to play aggressive.
[35:39] Gotcha. Gotcha.
[35:51] should be good. He striped a five and it
[35:53] striped another five and he's way in a
[35:55] better position. I hit driver, pulled it
[35:57] to Narnia. Here we have 160 to the right
[35:59] of that bunker and then the next one I
[36:01] think 200. So I'm going to play a seven
[36:04] iron over these trees hopefully. Um, and
[36:08] yeah.
[36:14] Oh, no. That's going to go into that
[36:16] bunker.
[36:16] Stay short of it. Stay short of it.
[36:18] Oh. Oh.
[36:20] Hit it.
[36:21] Hit it.
[36:22] Yeah, that's tough. And on the next few
[36:26] shots, I run into some real challenges.
[36:28] But once we're on the green, we get into
[36:29] rule number five. The one rule that
[36:31] might have the biggest impact on helping
[36:33] you shoot your lowest scores ever.
[36:40] Oh no, I stood up.
[36:46] You can get a double Sandy here though.
[36:48] You can make some money on this one.
[36:49] Double Sandy.
[36:53] Beautiful. Well done.
[36:56] I had to take a lot a lot off that.
[36:58] But you can two putt that, right? Make
[37:00] your bogey and get out of here. Yeah.
[37:01] Yeah.
[37:02] Jerome, you're going to hate me on this
[37:03] one. I promise. Okay, but here's the
[37:05] deal.
[37:07] We're here. We're on the green in three.
[37:09] Don't put it. I got to get the pace
[37:11] perfect. Okay, look, realistically, I
[37:14] can three jet this and still get two
[37:15] check marks.
[37:16] Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right.
[37:18] So, yep.
[37:18] You see what I'm saying? So, I can still
[37:20] I can still make my bogey. Okay.
[37:22] So, my thing is is that if I say I have
[37:24] to tw putt this, does it increase my
[37:25] confidence or decrease it? It's a lot of
[37:27] pressure, right?
[37:27] Yeah, it's a lot of pressure.
[37:28] So, what I'm saying is, okay, can I I'm
[37:30] what, 40 ft from the hole? Can I get it
[37:32] inside of four feet? So, not that I want
[37:34] to three putt it, but my point is is
[37:36] that you're looking for the you're
[37:39] looking for the way to how do you make
[37:40] bogeies, right? And eliminate the
[37:42] doubles. And to me, I'd say to you is
[37:44] lag putting becomes such an important
[37:46] part to the game cuz you've got to be
[37:48] able to putt it close.
[37:50] Which leads us to rule number five. Lag
[37:52] putting is everything. This is the most
[37:54] underrated rule of all. But you're
[37:55] nothing without speed control.
[37:57] Okay, there you go. But do you know what
[37:58] I mean? Like lag putting is it makes up
[38:01] for all the sins. Yeah,
[38:03] like you blade a chip, nice two putt.
[38:05] You chunk a chip, nice two putt. You hit
[38:06] a fivewood onto the green, nice two
[38:08] putt. Right. So that to me, one of the
[38:10] key things when we start to talk about
[38:12] training today is like how do you go
[38:14] ahead and become more effective with
[38:17] your lag putting because again it takes
[38:19] away it takes away the pressure of
[38:21] having to go at the flag stick because
[38:23] you're going to be able to go ahead and
[38:24] two foot and get out of there.
[38:35] But remember what we talked about,
[38:36] almost a par, easy bogey. But remember,
[38:38] you were in massive trouble on that
[38:40] hole, right? You're in massive trouble
[38:42] in that fairway bunker at 70 yards. And
[38:44] so this is what we're saying is what
[38:46] people do is they get into trouble and
[38:48] they try and make it up in one shot.
[38:50] Yeah.
[38:51] Instead of, oh, I'll just make it up in
[38:53] three or four shots and make my bogey.
[38:55] Yeah. And this completely new way of
[38:57] playing golf that Will's teaching me is
[38:59] honestly incredible. But what he tells
[39:00] me on the way to the green in the next
[39:02] hole about tension, handling stress, and
[39:05] how to approach tournaments is something
[39:07] that becomes crucial if you ever want to
[39:08] train effectively and consistently shoot
[39:10] lower scores.
[39:15] Before I take the laser out, what do
[39:17] you Everyone does that. They grab the
[39:18] laser. What's the flag? What's the
[39:20] yardage? That's not That's not your
[39:22] target. That's where the hole ends.
[39:24] I see.
[39:24] Okay. So, what we want to start off
[39:26] with, where can you absolutely not go on
[39:28] this hole?
[39:29] I wouldn't want to be any any of these
[39:30] in these bunkers. Okay. Yes. So, where
[39:33] would you what would your target be if
[39:34] you hit a hit a good shot? Right. Within
[39:36] 10% distance is what I want you to think
[39:38] of. Right. So, how far do we have now?
[39:40] Let's laser the bunker. First of all,
[39:41] laser the bunker. What's the carry on
[39:43] the bunker?
[39:43] The carry on the bunker is
[39:47] It's playing 157. So, it's probably
[39:49] playing 153.
[39:51] 153. What's the distance to the flag?
[39:53] distance to the flag is
[39:57] playing 177.
[39:58] So there's a good distance between that,
[40:00] right? We got 53 to 77.
[40:02] Yeah. Oh, it's probably 173. So it's
[40:03] probably 20.
[40:04] So 20 yards in between those two
[40:06] ish. Yeah.
[40:07] Okay. So what are we thinking
[40:08] distance-wise and target wise?
[40:11] Okay. So maybe you can assess my
[40:12] thinking here, but if I go over this,
[40:15] it's going to be on the second level
[40:17] and it'll be downhill, like a fast
[40:19] downhill.
[40:20] Yeah. But can you three part from there
[40:21] to get two check marks? Oh, three point.
[40:23] Yes. Easily. Yeah. Yeah. I
[40:25] I want you to play around a golf with no
[40:26] doubles and triples that we've got to
[40:28] get you down a green run to start with
[40:30] because once you think you're going to
[40:31] realize like, well, it's just not that
[40:32] hard. It is. It's hard. And then
[40:35] put down second gear, third gear, fourth
[40:37] gear, and keep going. Right. So, yeah,
[40:39] if you go past this whole, oh, you're 30
[40:40] foot downhill part. I'd prefer 10 30
[40:42] foot downhill parts
[40:44] than seven bunker shots, you know, a
[40:46] pitch shot and two two eightfooters.
[40:49] That Okay, got it. Okay. I was thinking
[40:51] like where can I two put from? But we're
[40:52] even trying to three putt. It's fine.
[40:54] Three putt. It's just we're just trying
[40:55] to eliminate a double bogey. Trying to
[40:57] play very easy golf.
[40:58] Then I would still I would aim at the
[41:00] flag because that's like right in the
[41:02] middle.
[41:02] Yep. I like that.
[41:03] And then I would play this uh like a 175
[41:06] shot.
[41:06] 175. Yep.
[41:07] 175.
[41:08] It's a little bit downhill, right?
[41:09] It's downhill.
[41:10] Yep. And so what's your 175 club?
[41:12] Uh 7 iron.
[41:13] Okay, let's see it. And before Will
[41:14] uncovers the most important rules to
[41:16] always avoid double bogeies and to play
[41:18] your easiest golf, I want to show you
[41:19] guys one of the biggest game changers
[41:21] for me on my road to scratch. This is
[41:22] the Grin. It's the app I use to track
[41:24] every round, keep my handicap, and
[41:26] actually see what's happening in my
[41:27] game. Every time I'm out here, I logged
[41:29] around and it tracks things like
[41:30] fairways hit, greens in regulation, and
[41:32] total putts. All the stats that show you
[41:34] where you're improving or where the game
[41:36] is still exposing you. And honestly,
[41:38] whether you're trying to get to scratch
[41:39] like me or just getting into golf, this
[41:41] feedback is huge. You can also follow
[41:43] other golfers and see the rounds they're
[41:45] posting. So, if you want to improve or
[41:47] just keep up with your friends games,
[41:48] scan the QR code on the screen or check
[41:50] out the link in the description below to
[41:52] download the Grint today.
[41:56] Oh man, close. That was where I was
[41:59] aiming.
[42:00] Yep.
[42:01] Oh, all right. Now, here's here's the
[42:05] key thing. Here's the key thing. What I
[42:06] want to do, you you hit it a little bit
[42:08] heavy, right?
[42:08] Yeah, a little bit heavy.
[42:09] Were you committed to the golf shot,
[42:10] though?
[42:11] I was committed to the golf shot. You
[42:12] look to me like you were committed.
[42:13] Okay, so here's the thing. Most people
[42:15] when they get over the golf shot,
[42:17] they'll hit a shot like that and they're
[42:18] like, "Well, I wasn't sure if it was a
[42:19] seven or an eight." And so then I kind
[42:22] of
[42:22] Well, if you didn't fully commit to the
[42:24] shot, why would you care where it went?
[42:25] Yeah.
[42:26] But if you fully commit to the shot,
[42:28] which you just did, and go, "Oh, I
[42:29] caught a bit heavy." Oh, okay. Caught a
[42:30] little bit heavy.
[42:31] So, you can only look at the outcome of
[42:33] the shot if you fully committed to it.
[42:35] Now, the next question I would have is,
[42:37] are you inside the scoring zone?
[42:39] Yes.
[42:39] Yes. Crazy.
[42:41] Yeah. Do you have a chance? Easy. Oh,
[42:43] it's actually on the green. There you
[42:44] go.
[42:45] Do you have a chance now to go ahead
[42:48] and get down in three and make a bogey?
[42:50] Uh, yes, for sure.
[42:51] Absolutely. Right.
[42:52] So, we've got to go from swing to score.
[42:56] Okay.
[42:56] Okay.
[42:57] Yeah.
[42:57] Everybody thinks, hey, if my swing was
[42:59] better, I'd score better.
[43:00] Okay. Best players in the world still go
[43:03] out and don't play particularly well
[43:04] when their swings look good to us.
[43:06] Yeah. Yeah.
[43:06] But if you're not scoring well, right?
[43:14] Oh my god. Go in. Go in.
[43:20] Okay. And now I'm going to be where you
[43:22] had, which is like, hey, I'm 30 ft past
[43:24] the hole. Fantastic. I'm good to go.
[43:26] Yeah. Yeah.
[43:26] Right. Was I committed to the golf shot?
[43:28] Yeah. I saw it just right of the flag.
[43:29] Try and hold up a cut. Perfect.
[43:31] Yeah. So, we just got to start to get
[43:33] more honest with ourselves because if
[43:35] you looked at the data and and you
[43:37] literally all you could go off of data
[43:38] and you were the caddy, you'd be like,
[43:40] you should not be hitting this shot by
[43:42] the way, Jerome. This is the look at the
[43:43] data on this versus this is absolutely
[43:45] the shot you should be hitting. This is
[43:46] the club you should go and now get
[43:48] aggressive to it. Now, get committed to
[43:49] it.
[43:50] And so, this is where I'd be saying to
[43:51] you is
[43:52] it isn't a technique problem, it's a
[43:54] tension problem.
[43:55] I see.
[43:55] We've got to get you more comfortable
[43:56] playing on tension. That's why I want
[43:58] you to start playing in tournaments cuz
[43:59] the tension is going to go through the
[44:00] roof
[44:01] and the swing will start to fall apart.
[44:02] That's fine. But you'll start to learn
[44:04] how to play more effectively under
[44:06] pressure.
[44:06] Got it?
[44:07] Which is Yeah, maybe I don't take driver
[44:08] all the time. Maybe I avoid trouble.
[44:10] Maybe I go ahead and lag putt a lot more
[44:12] in my training before I go to the golf
[44:14] course. You see like all these things
[44:15] will build into how do you compete under
[44:17] pressure?
[44:18] I see that makes sense. And with this
[44:20] next discussion about tournaments comes
[44:21] rule number six and maybe the one I've
[44:23] lived by my whole life. It's only now
[44:25] that I've realized it's a major part of
[44:27] my why behind this entire journey I'm
[44:29] on. So, so in regards to tournaments,
[44:31] yeah, for the regular amateur, um, what
[44:33] would you say is a good time for in
[44:36] regards to like handicap?
[44:37] Straight away.
[44:38] Straight away.
[44:38] Absolutely.
[44:39] Even if you're like a 30 handicap.
[44:40] Yeah. Because here's the thing for you,
[44:41] J right now, and you sort of talked
[44:43] about it. Well, I want to get everything
[44:44] ready and right and in a good position
[44:45] so I can go out and play one of
[44:47] tournaments. The more you do that, the
[44:49] more the tension will raise. It's my
[44:51] first tournament. No, go and play a
[44:52] tournament right away and feel the
[44:54] differences. Feel that my hands get
[44:56] tighter. Feel that my body gets quicker.
[44:58] Feel that I, you know, struggle to
[45:00] breathe as well and start to understand
[45:02] this. So you go and train in a more
[45:04] effective way. But I see so many so many
[45:07] players being like, I'm not going to
[45:08] play a tournament till I have it all
[45:09] together.
[45:10] And I'm like, okay, then that's just
[45:12] going to add pressure, man. Go out, play
[45:14] in a tournament, and feel the
[45:15] difference. And and so often like my my
[45:18] better players again my better players
[45:19] are you know scr scratch two three four
[45:22] five six handicaps right they go into a
[45:24] tournament they shoot 74 in a practice
[45:26] round they shoot an 87 and they're like
[45:28] well my techniques no the tension rose
[45:30] well will my techniques to be better
[45:32] okay hold on so Oberg at TPC sliced a
[45:35] driver into the junk and snap hooked a
[45:37] fivewood into the junk so if your swing
[45:39] is as good as Oberg's you can still
[45:41] expect not to play well or Shane Lowry
[45:43] who hit two balls in the water with two
[45:45] holes to play or Matsiama at the waist
[45:47] management who duck hooked it into the
[45:48] junk. If your swing's as good as them,
[45:50] then you'll be able to hit the fairway.
[45:52] No. When expectations rise, tension
[45:54] rises. If tension rises, skill sets go
[45:56] down.
[45:57] So, what I want you to do is get under
[45:58] the pressure cooker and break through
[46:00] that barrier of like what does it feel
[46:01] like to play into a tournament? What
[46:03] does it feel like to the rounds are like
[46:05] 5 hours and 45 minutes. You got to learn
[46:06] how to play slow golf. You've got to
[46:08] learn how to, you know, finish every
[46:10] putt out. And you're going to train at a
[46:12] different level. But if you just wait
[46:13] and wait and wait, you're just going to
[46:14] build the pressure and you'll never get
[46:16] to perfect. Cuz golf is a game of
[46:18] misses. It's not a game of perfect. It's
[46:19] a game of misses.
[46:20] Oh, that's that's yeah, that's great
[46:21] knowledge and wisdom. And with that
[46:23] piece of wisdom comes rule number six.
[46:25] Do hard stuff and start before you're
[46:28] ready. This rule made me start thinking
[46:29] about the last 3 years. Why would I
[46:31] abandon a successful tech career I spent
[46:33] over 20 years building to pick up a
[46:35] sport I had zero experience in trying to
[46:36] achieve a seemingly impossible goal of
[46:38] becoming a scratch golfer? Imagine
[46:40] moving across the country just to learn
[46:41] a new sport. Jerome Rufin did that.
[46:44] Loading up his set of golf clubs and
[46:46] leaving New York for America's Fighter
[46:47] City.
[46:48] And it was like the first day went to
[46:49] the range, hit a good shot, and then
[46:51] that night I was like, I'm going to
[46:52] devote my entire life to this.
[46:54] And it hit me. I never had a lot growing
[46:56] up. And so I think that's why my dad
[46:58] also always told me to do the hardest
[47:00] thing possible, to battle adversity head
[47:01] on. It started as early as I could
[47:03] remember, and he never let up.
[47:07] But hey, I listened. He was my dad. And
[47:09] so when I excitedly decided to give up
[47:11] everything to pursue golf, I think a
[47:13] main part of that is because everyone
[47:15] said golf was the hardest board ever
[47:16] with my dad's voice echoing in my ears.
[47:18] But now I think it's because for the
[47:20] first time, I'm building a path that's
[47:22] fully my own and so happy doing it.
[47:30] So before I continue on this almost
[47:32] seemingly impossible goal I set out for
[47:34] myself, I wanted to say thank you, Dad,
[47:36] for all the good and the bad. You made
[47:38] me the person I am today. And I truly
[47:40] believe it's the reason I'll get the
[47:41] scratch.
[47:47] Oh, that might be good.
[47:48] A little bit. Go left a little bit. Go
[47:50] left.
[47:50] Oh, it's going to be really good.
[47:54] I will take that all day. Every day.
[48:02] Great roll. Very nice putt. Easy three.
[48:05] All right. So, this this hole is, I
[48:07] think, one of the nicest looking holes
[48:09] in all of LA. Um
[48:12] Oh, I like that.
[48:13] Yeah.
[48:13] Are we going up on the TE's or down?
[48:15] Yeah. Let's uh grab the driver.
[48:17] Let's walk.
[48:18] I don't know.
[48:18] But um and then Do you want to You want
[48:21] to hit driver?
[48:22] Yeah.
[48:22] Let's go.
[48:22] I mean, I've been having to lay up on
[48:24] everything right now.
[48:25] Yeah, dude. All right, guys. We're going
[48:26] to see him hit driver for the first time
[48:28] today.
[48:34] Okay, stay there. See how I stepped out
[48:38] of the range for the nice.
[48:40] So, so to me, I knew I could miss it
[48:42] slightly to the right. I might have hit
[48:43] the bunker. I might be just off of the
[48:44] edge of it. I'm not exactly sure. Yeah.
[48:46] But again, what I'm trying to do is pick
[48:48] a side which I can't go to. What's the
[48:50] line I cannot cross? Cuz I just think a
[48:52] left over that over that water hazard
[48:53] would be impos impossible, right?
[48:55] Yeah. So, here's a question, and this is
[48:57] probably again you probably answer with
[48:59] your um your scoring method, but on the
[49:01] left, all the trees are half the size of
[49:03] these
[49:04] and you could get it over all the trees.
[49:07] Um but here, you always have to punch
[49:09] out if you get on the right side,
[49:10] but I'm only trying to get somewhere
[49:11] close to the green to be able to chip
[49:12] them, right?
[49:13] Yeah, exactly.
[49:14] So, to me is I don't want to be going
[49:15] over that lake or out of that bunker on
[49:16] the left.
[49:17] I see. That makes sense.
[49:19] We talked about on the range, right? I
[49:20] talked about freedom of 10. Just
[49:22] absolutely swing with complete freedom.
[49:24] Okay. Now, I'm going to tell you to set
[49:26] up and smash it clear into those trees
[49:29] on the right over there. See those trees
[49:30] over at the right?
[49:31] Yeah.
[49:31] Just rip it into those trees. Like, you
[49:34] can't miss it cuz you're just ripping it
[49:35] straight into those trees. How good
[49:36] would it feel just to rip one? You don't
[49:37] have to have a swing thought or
[49:38] anything. You can just set up with
[49:39] absolute freedom ripping it right down
[49:42] into those trees.
[49:49] Okay. Now, let me Now, let me ask you
[49:51] this. out of 10 of trusting your golf
[49:53] swing and letting go, what number was
[49:54] it?
[49:55] Six.
[49:55] Six. So, you were still tight even
[49:57] though I gave you permission to miss
[49:58] one.
[49:59] Yes.
[49:59] Okay. Cuz to me, you hit three drivers
[50:01] today that you've absolutely pured and
[50:03] it was freedom through the golf swing.
[50:05] And that's what we've got to start to
[50:06] train is not steering it. Cuz if you're
[50:10] going to go out there and steer it and
[50:11] guide it, it it's not going to be it's
[50:13] you're never going to play to your full
[50:14] potential. Cuz remember, when you play
[50:16] your best golf, you just look and react,
[50:18] right? You just see the shot and trust
[50:19] it. See the ball and trust it. So, we've
[50:22] got to start to get you comfortable with
[50:24] feeling completely free over your
[50:26] driver, completely free over your
[50:27] irions, completely free over a putt
[50:29] where you're not trying to, you know,
[50:31] don't miss it left, don't miss it to the
[50:33] right, and that's what actually makes it
[50:35] miss to the left, miss it right.
[50:37] Gotcha. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah. I
[50:39] feel like my miss right now is like just
[50:40] a right ball and it's when I'm like
[50:43] I don't like I don't
[50:45] tight and the hands don't release and
[50:46] there's tension. And so that's what to
[50:48] me is what I would want you to start to
[50:50] work on is this freedom of just get
[50:52] through the ball as if I can't miss it
[50:55] versus steer it so I can't miss it.
[50:57] Well, steering is always
[51:00] all right. So yeah, do that.
[51:01] So we got a good line in, right? We miss
[51:02] I think in a good place so we can get
[51:04] get in a decent position from here. We
[51:06] got a good line in.
[51:08] Can't go left.
[51:09] Yes.
[51:10] 154 you said to the front of the green.
[51:12] 150 to that bunker. Y
[51:14] um yeah about 154 to the front of the
[51:16] green
[51:16] and then 173
[51:19] 74 hole
[51:19] playing 177 with wind probably still
[51:22] playing 170.
[51:23] So where would you be super happy with
[51:24] this if you hit a decent a 10 out of 10
[51:26] 10 shots you hit in the average where
[51:28] would you be? How many how many feet and
[51:30] where would you be?
[51:30] I would probably be like in the middle
[51:33] of the green.
[51:33] Yeah. 40 ft right towards that white
[51:36] Yes.
[51:36] roof right.
[51:37] Mhm.
[51:38] Playing what do you think it is? Is 170
[51:39] down whether it's going to run forever
[51:41] right out of this? I think
[51:42] um probably 165
[51:44] 8 iron or 9.
[51:46] Oh 165 8 iron.
[51:47] Yeah.
[51:47] Yeah.
[51:48] There you go. So again, see that shot.
[51:50] Come back here and look. More
[51:51] visualization on the target. More
[51:53] commitment to the target. See the shot
[51:55] you want to hit. Right. You got to see
[51:56] it before you start to feel it. Right.
[51:58] See the shape of the shot. See the shot
[52:00] you're hitting.
[52:02] Good. Okay.
[52:08] So good.
[52:10] So good.
[52:13] Okay. Now, let's ask ourselves, if we
[52:17] play aggressive here, where's your ball
[52:18] right now?
[52:19] Um, in the water.
[52:20] In the water.
[52:21] Yes.
[52:21] So, the idea here is, hear this out,
[52:22] right?
[52:23] Your miss on this one should be closer
[52:25] than your good shot.
[52:27] Yeah. Exactly.
[52:28] Right. Because if you hit it really
[52:30] good, you'd be 40 ft right of the flag.
[52:32] If you tug it just a little left and
[52:33] pull it by 15 yards, you're right by the
[52:35] flag stick. Does that make sense? So,
[52:37] this is where we're saying is we've got
[52:39] to eliminate the double and triple
[52:40] bogey, which is the water left.
[52:42] Yeah.
[52:42] And now you got a nice spot for birdie.
[52:43] Yeah, that was crazy.
[52:50] Oh man. You overthink it?
[52:52] Yeah. I overthought it.
[52:59] Yeah, baby. I love it. I absolutely love
[53:02] it.
[53:03] Let's go. sinking that putt and playing
[53:05] within this system feels both freeing
[53:07] and calm. And that leads me to a
[53:08] question for Will. And rule number
[53:10] seven, what do you think like the the
[53:13] biggest piece of advice you give to
[53:16] 20 handicappers, 10 handicappers, and um
[53:20] very low handicappers.
[53:21] Okay. So I think to all of them,
[53:26] train hard, play easy.
[53:29] Okay. Got it. Gotcha. Cuz what most of
[53:30] us do is practice with 50 seven irons in
[53:34] a row on a flat mat working on technique
[53:36] and get to the golf course. We have a
[53:38] seven iron off of a hanging lie after we
[53:40] just made double on the last and there's
[53:42] a group behind us and we're frustrated
[53:45] and we now have to execute a golf shot.
[53:47] Much more difficult than just a seven
[53:49] off of a mat. So training hard is really
[53:52] important. That means make your training
[53:54] harder than your play. And then when you
[53:56] get on the golf course, play easy. Easy
[53:59] means, oh, I just hit a four hybrid down
[54:01] the left side. Oh, just hit a seven iron
[54:03] long left of the green. Oh, just lag it
[54:05] down to 3 ft. Get out of here. Versus
[54:07] you have to hit this shot exactly the
[54:09] way you want. Now, that's increased
[54:11] tension.
[54:11] Yeah.
[54:12] And and how many times have you had that
[54:13] when you played around a golf and you've
[54:14] shot a 47 on the front and come back
[54:17] with a 39 and you found your golf game
[54:19] on the back?
[54:19] Oh, yeah. Classic.
[54:20] Okay. Why? Cuz on the front nine, you
[54:22] lost it. You kind of almost gave up. The
[54:25] tension reduces. Your skill set comes
[54:27] out. M I see.
[54:28] And this is why I'm saying is is that
[54:30] people don't really have technique
[54:31] problems because if they had a technique
[54:32] problem, you'd play bad on the front n
[54:33] and the back n 4747.
[54:36] Yeah.
[54:36] But if you can come back and play well,
[54:38] the frustration comes from I know I can
[54:40] do it. Yes.
[54:42] But the conditions were different. You
[54:44] were in a tournament. It was windy,
[54:46] right? It was extremely hot. You didn't
[54:48] sleep particularly well last night. Your
[54:50] rain session didn't feel particularly
[54:52] good. You've got to in your profession,
[54:55] everybody who's listening to this and
[54:56] watching this in their profession does
[54:57] this automatically. Hey, you know what?
[54:59] It's going to be a tough This is going
[55:00] to be a tough deal. This is going to be
[55:01] a tough one. And you calculate that in
[55:03] in golf, we're like, "No, I should just
[55:05] play good." No. When you play in a US
[55:06] Open, you're going to shoot even par and
[55:07] win the tournament.
[55:08] Yeah.
[55:09] Well, that's not going to happen at the
[55:11] John Deere Classic. You know what I
[55:12] mean? Like, you have to calibrate for
[55:14] what's ahead of you. And I think that's
[55:15] what most people struggle with is is
[55:17] they keep with their game plan.
[55:19] Gotcha. That makes sense. So rule number
[55:21] seven, train hard, play easy. As Gary
[55:23] Player once said, the more I practice,
[55:25] the luckier I get.
[55:27] So first thing, Jerem is where can we
[55:30] absolutely not go? No, no target. Let's
[55:32] not let's not think about swing right
[55:34] now. I want you to think of that target.
[55:36] See the target, trust it. See the
[55:37] target, trust it.
[55:39] So first thing I would say is where can
[55:40] we absolutely not go? To me, if we go
[55:42] right, it looks like we're going to be
[55:43] cut out pretty quick.
[55:44] So maybe down the left side is a little
[55:46] bit more of an advantage, would you say?
[55:48] Yeah. If you miss right here when I uh
[55:50] the distance I hit it
[55:53] um and it leaks, you'll end up in that
[55:56] little uh gravel area or the bark area.
[56:00] And even if you get on the other side,
[56:02] it's it's pretty hard to find the uh
[56:04] thing.
[56:04] So to me is I'm seeing that left bunker,
[56:08] trying to cut one off of that left
[56:09] bunker. That's my goal right here.
[56:18] Oh,
[56:19] that's sick. You're an animal.
[56:22] I'm just following you, mate. Oh, I just
[56:24] want to be like Jerome one day. That's
[56:25] all I want.
[56:26] Come back and do visualize the shot
[56:29] first. What's the shape that you want?
[56:30] What are you seeing off the tea? See
[56:32] that?
[56:33] Then make the rehearsal swings of what
[56:35] that feels like. More focused on the
[56:37] target than the technique.
[56:38] I think I'm aiming at that um left edge
[56:41] of that bunker.
[56:41] Yep. And then I'm just going to try to
[56:43] draw it into that first tree. Love it.
[56:54] Stay there.
[56:59] Okay. Now, we're going to play a second
[57:01] ball. Okay.
[57:02] You're going to play a second one. Yeah.
[57:03] And you're going to play what do you
[57:05] got? Like a four hybrid. Uh
[57:06] you got a four hybrid.
[57:07] Yep. Let's see a four hybrid.
[57:14] Good golf swing. How'd that one feel?
[57:17] That felt very free.
[57:19] Yeah, very free. That's the word that I
[57:21] want. Right. The first one, did you feel
[57:23] a little tight on it?
[57:24] Uh, a little tight because I I feel like
[57:26] I h Sometimes I missed right and I was
[57:28] like, "Oh, I kind of want to steer more
[57:29] left." So, let's play both of these. Uh,
[57:31] we'll play them both out. Okay. And
[57:33] after that drive went way left, followed
[57:35] by a safer second shot straight down the
[57:37] fairway, we get to maybe the most
[57:39] important rule of the day. Rule number
[57:40] eight, don't be a hero. You can't win a
[57:43] hold one shot, but you can definitely
[57:45] lose it. And before we head to the next
[57:46] hole, Will shares an eyeopening
[57:48] revelation how he built his scoring
[57:50] system and how the best golfers actually
[57:52] think on the course. It's a simple shift
[57:54] in perspective that can help you start
[57:55] thinking like them and instantly improve
[57:57] your game.
[57:58] And I had one student who came to me and
[57:59] he said, "Will, I have the worst golf
[58:01] swing on the planet. like I have the
[58:02] worst swing.
[58:03] M
[58:04] but the guy shot 84s and 83s every like
[58:06] he was just so consistent but he'd aim
[58:08] literally 75 yards Joe way right and
[58:11] pull it left and I'm like Joe that's
[58:13] crazy he's and we just started to talk
[58:15] about like what do you think about he's
[58:16] like well all I got to do is get it in
[58:18] you know instead of 100 and I'm like I'd
[58:19] read uh Ray Floyd's book the scoring
[58:22] zone and all this and
[58:23] started to make me realize like
[58:26] my biggest problem with my players was
[58:28] they were making horrible decisions. So,
[58:30] how can I eliminate doubles and triples?
[58:32] And so, it was this idea of like if I
[58:34] could just get them to stop going for
[58:36] the greener egg.
[58:37] Yeah.
[58:37] And just go to the hundred. They're
[58:38] like, "Well, I could hit two seven
[58:40] irons." Great, but don't hit two seven
[58:41] irons. Hit a four iron and a pitching
[58:43] wedge. The idea is it reduced tension.
[58:45] And the minute you reduce tension, which
[58:46] I found was when I turned pro, when I
[58:48] put tension on, I played worse.
[58:49] So, what I realized was golf isn't
[58:51] mental, it's emotional. And what we're
[58:53] trying to do is balance our emotional
[58:54] state when we play. And the tendency
[58:56] right now is you're in the left brain
[58:58] logical getting it all right. That's
[58:59] good for the driving range. We got to
[59:01] train you how to start to practice on
[59:02] the driving range. Bringing it out onto
[59:04] the golf course. I see where you've
[59:06] trained under pressure. I mean, you
[59:07] think about the military, right? Live
[59:09] ammunition, full war games. They play
[59:12] it, I mean, full on. They don't go like,
[59:14] "Hey, I'm out of battery. I want to I
[59:16] want to bail out now." It's like, "Get
[59:17] down, dude. Live ammunition."
[59:19] Yeah.
[59:19] Then they go into a war zone. It's like,
[59:22] "We've been here before. We've done it
[59:23] before." They don't feel that overwhelm,
[59:24] right? And so, what we've got to do is
[59:26] like get into that train hard. So
[59:27] working with this guy Joe and sort of
[59:29] seeing his mindset behind it just like
[59:31] dude just get to the 100 get down in
[59:32] three and I'm like this is unbelievable
[59:34] and then starting to realize like well
[59:36] that's gear one get inside of 100. Gear
[59:38] two is get inside of 50. Gear three is
[59:40] get inside of 25. Gear four is get
[59:41] inside of on the green.
[59:43] I see.
[59:44] And then instead of level one it's just
[59:45] get in the scoring zone because every
[59:47] well I'm low handicap. No no
[59:49] 18 times around I want you to be inside
[59:52] the 100.
[59:52] Yeah.
[59:53] But here's the deal is people say I had
[59:54] 12 greens. I don't care about 12 greens.
[59:56] Where were the other six? A house,
[59:58] someone's swimming pool, the ocean, the
[01:00:01] tree. Okay, so you shot 84 cuz you lost
[01:00:03] six golf balls.
[01:00:04] Yeah,
[01:00:04] it's where our misses are. If you tell
[01:00:06] me, oh, well, will the other I had I
[01:00:08] only hit six in reg, but with the other
[01:00:10] 12 or all 25 yard chip shots, well, you
[01:00:12] might get up and down seven of times.
[01:00:14] You probably shot 75.
[01:00:16] So, what I realized is that like level
[01:00:18] two scorecard isn't get down in three
[01:00:20] anymore. Instead of 100, it's get down
[01:00:21] in two.
[01:00:22] Yeah.
[01:00:22] And then it's get down in two from
[01:00:24] instead of 125. level three and the
[01:00:25] level. So, it keeps on getting more
[01:00:27] difficult and then what the score card
[01:00:28] does, it gives you a homework.
[01:00:29] So, it says, "Hey, you missed two putts
[01:00:31] inside of four feet.
[01:00:32] I see.
[01:00:33] You got to do your four foot test twice
[01:00:35] and score this many.
[01:00:37] You had three three putts. You got to do
[01:00:38] three putting drill. You lag putting
[01:00:40] drill. You didn't get up and down five
[01:00:42] times. You got to go and do this drill.
[01:00:43] You lost two golf balls. You got to do
[01:00:45] this." So, it basically builds you a
[01:00:46] training program based off of what you
[01:00:48] did rather than like everyone goes, "Oh,
[01:00:50] my swing's not good enough." What I
[01:00:51] started to realize was like, how do I
[01:00:53] take the tension off of these people? I
[01:00:55] have to be their mind. I've got to make
[01:00:57] them think more effectively. So, this is
[01:00:58] what foresight is versus hindsight.
[01:01:00] You got to start thinking like a plus
[01:01:02] one handicap.
[01:01:04] Whereas, right now, a plus one doesn't
[01:01:06] think, I'm going to take driver on every
[01:01:07] hole. I'm going to hit every single
[01:01:08] flag. I shouldn't make a bogey. A plus
[01:01:09] one handicap thinks, I'm going to make
[01:01:11] stupid decisions. Golf is tough. I'm
[01:01:12] going to missit shots. I'm going to
[01:01:14] struggle. I'm probably going to do
[01:01:16] things I don't wish I wouldn't do, but
[01:01:17] I'm also going to hit some good shots.
[01:01:18] I'm also going to have some good saves.
[01:01:19] And I just got to be patient. Okay. So,
[01:01:21] what do we got distance wise?
[01:01:22] 147.
[01:01:23] 147. What's the target?
[01:01:25] Uh, that bunker
[01:01:26] on the right.
[01:01:28] Uh, the Yeah.
[01:01:29] over long. Yeah, absolutely. So, if we
[01:01:32] were 30 ft right of this flag stick,
[01:01:34] this would be a great golf shot, right?
[01:01:35] Uh, yes.
[01:01:36] 150 15 yards, right?
[01:01:38] You know what I mean? 30 to 40 feet out
[01:01:40] on the right.
[01:01:41] See the shot? Make the rehearsal.
[01:01:48] Oh, I
[01:01:49] Okay, now this is this is where take a
[01:01:52] look. This is where you got to say, are
[01:01:54] you in the scoring zone?
[01:01:55] Yeah.
[01:01:55] Okay, cuz now were you fully committed
[01:01:58] to that golf shot?
[01:01:59] No, not at all.
[01:02:00] Did you Did you get that? He was. So,
[01:02:01] what was going on in your head? What
[01:02:03] what emotions were you feeling?
[01:02:04] Um, so at the top of the I just felt
[01:02:06] like um when I was at the top, I uh I
[01:02:09] started thinking about something
[01:02:10] different than what I was like trying to
[01:02:12] um hit initially. So imagine when you
[01:02:14] played your best basketball, this is
[01:02:15] right before I told you to throw a free
[01:02:17] throw. I said, "Keep your right elbow
[01:02:18] in. Make sure your left hip doesn't
[01:02:19] open. You'd be a disaster."
[01:02:21] So this is where you've got to honestly
[01:02:22] say to yourself, "I wasn't committed to
[01:02:23] the shot. I don't care. I chunked it."
[01:02:25] You can't qualify that as a chunk. Cuz
[01:02:26] if you were doing data, if you were
[01:02:28] gathering data
[01:02:30] and the constant change cuz you decided
[01:02:32] to change something, you couldn't you'd
[01:02:33] have to throw that out, right? Cuz you
[01:02:34] want to be like, "Oh, that happened."
[01:02:36] You weren't committed to the shot.
[01:02:37] Yeah.
[01:02:37] The second part now, which you your
[01:02:39] brains like really will. You're like,
[01:02:41] "Check mark. I'm in the scoring zone."
[01:02:43] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[01:02:44] Versus you flushing this, turning it
[01:02:45] over, hitting the back left of the
[01:02:47] thing, and jumping out of bounds.
[01:02:48] Oh, you flushed it 170. Out of bounds,
[01:02:50] you're making a double. So, do you mean?
[01:02:52] So, well done for being honest and being
[01:02:54] like, "No, I thought about upping my
[01:02:56] golf swing." This is why I'm saying you
[01:02:57] got to shift out of left brain logical
[01:02:59] thinking to trust the target, release it
[01:03:01] at the target, and let it go. Yeah.
[01:03:03] Cuz you play your best golf when you're
[01:03:04] free, like you got to here with
[01:03:06] none of us play good golf when we're
[01:03:08] holding on for dear life, hoping we
[01:03:09] don't hit a bad one.
[01:03:10] Gotcha. Yeah.
[01:03:10] Thoughts on that? No, that's that's
[01:03:13] exactly right. And I think it's um Chris
[01:03:16] kind of figured this out. I just I I
[01:03:18] have a and many golfers have this
[01:03:20] perfectionist mindset.
[01:03:21] Yeah.
[01:03:22] And so I don't have the greatest selft
[01:03:24] talk ever.
[01:03:25] So when I like I think this this um kind
[01:03:28] of objective system allows me to be a
[01:03:32] little more positive. Like seeing that
[01:03:34] I'm like, "Oh my god, what that was
[01:03:35] horrible." And
[01:03:36] uh the momentum kind of dies. But if
[01:03:38] it's kind of objectively, oh, I'm in the
[01:03:40] scoring zone, then
[01:03:41] Yep.
[01:03:41] It's like, okay, great.
[01:03:43] Yeah. But it's okay to have the
[01:03:44] perfectionistic mindset on the things
[01:03:45] that you can control.
[01:03:47] Yeah.
[01:03:47] And so what I'd be saying to you is pick
[01:03:49] the right target, pick the shot, and
[01:03:50] then trust the golf swing. And if you
[01:03:52] get that wrong, you can be mad at
[01:03:53] yourself.
[01:03:53] I didn't commit to the shot. You But if
[01:03:55] you commit to the shot, all you know is
[01:03:57] like, what did you learn? Oh, I pulled
[01:03:58] it further. It went further. It went
[01:03:59] shorter. Whatever it might be.
[01:04:01] So, it's okay to go in and be fully
[01:04:03] committed. And it's okay to get mad
[01:04:04] because what people think is, I
[01:04:06] shouldn't get mad. I shouldn't be
[01:04:07] negative. VJ when he won nine times in
[01:04:09] one year, he said he played angry golf
[01:04:11] the whole year,
[01:04:12] which meant they think I'm going to
[01:04:13] choke today. They think I'm going to
[01:04:15] miss this putt. They think I'm going to
[01:04:16] miss this fairway. They think I'm going
[01:04:18] to hit out of bounds. Is that positive?
[01:04:19] No.
[01:04:20] But it put them into what emotional
[01:04:21] state? I'm going to freaking show them.
[01:04:24] So it put them in the right emotional
[01:04:25] state.
[01:04:26] So for you, like it's okay. You've got
[01:04:28] to get in the right commit to the shot.
[01:04:30] Edge of that house up on the hill.
[01:04:33] Nice committed swing. Don't think about
[01:04:35] it. Set up into the golf ball. trusted
[01:04:37] all the way. And with that is rule
[01:04:39] number nine. Fully commit.
[01:04:41] I'm just looking for a 10 in commitment.
[01:04:43] Come on. Commit. 10.
[01:04:46] 10. Okay. What did I do? Well, I caught
[01:04:49] it slightly thin. It's slightly right on
[01:04:50] my target. Uh, okay. Let's go. So, I
[01:04:53] don't mind if you're talking yourself
[01:04:55] into like doing it together, man. Let's
[01:04:57] do this. Because what you can't do is go
[01:04:59] in with, well, I'm not exactly sure.
[01:05:02] Hopefully, this work. That is not a
[01:05:04] strategy to being a scratch golfer.
[01:05:05] Okay. And you've heard Chris say that
[01:05:06] over and over again, right? And he's
[01:05:08] working with the best players in the
[01:05:09] world whose swings are that good, but
[01:05:11] they still have to believe the shot that
[01:05:13] they're hitting.
[01:05:14] Got it. Yeah, that makes sense. All
[01:05:15] right, let me
[01:05:17] have 57.
[01:05:18] Okay, what's your target?
[01:05:19] Um,
[01:05:21] what would it What would it be?
[01:05:22] Here we go.
[01:05:24] What would it be if I wasn't here?
[01:05:26] I was still a bunker.
[01:05:27] Okay, good. Well, well, now I love it.
[01:05:32] Oh, that flushed.
[01:05:34] Oh,
[01:05:35] soft.
[01:05:36] Oh,
[01:05:38] I I
[01:05:39] Were you committed to the golf shot?
[01:05:41] Yeah, I was committed.
[01:05:41] 100% committed, right?
[01:05:42] I was 100% committed.
[01:05:43] How good did that flush off the face,
[01:05:45] though?
[01:05:45] Yeah, it was that was the perfect shot.
[01:05:47] All right, so this was the first hole
[01:05:48] first uh ball I hit basically with the
[01:05:50] drive. Pulled it a little left on the
[01:05:52] other fairway. And now I have two
[01:05:54] massive trees here.
[01:05:56] Yep. So, we laid up safe on that one.
[01:05:58] Middle of the fairway, right? Took the
[01:06:00] aggressive line on the first one. We're
[01:06:01] here. But can't you just pitch something
[01:06:03] underneath that and try and get it
[01:06:04] inside of 100 yards of the green and
[01:06:05] then just get a chip or a pitch onto the
[01:06:07] green until you put make a bogey? Yeah.
[01:06:09] Yes.
[01:06:09] Let's not try and play the miracle shot.
[01:06:12] Do you think just a little low one
[01:06:13] chasing up there or do you think go out
[01:06:14] to the right? What do you feel?
[01:06:16] Um I feel like I could try to do this
[01:06:19] one.
[01:06:20] Which do you think is the best the best
[01:06:22] play for you?
[01:06:22] I think the safest one's over here.
[01:06:24] Yeah. Perfect. Let's just pitch out to
[01:06:25] the right.
[01:06:26] Yeah.
[01:06:29] Very nice.
[01:06:33] Okay.
[01:06:33] Yeah. There we go.
[01:06:34] There you go.
[01:06:35] All right. So, this is 54.
[01:06:37] Yep.
[01:06:38] 55. Um, regularly, I would go straight
[01:06:41] at the pin here.
[01:06:42] Okay.
[01:06:42] I feel like the best bet would be
[01:06:45] actually to just get a little over this
[01:06:47] right side.
[01:06:48] I like that. Right edge of the green.
[01:06:49] Yep. Right edge of right edge of the
[01:06:50] pin. The bunker. Sorry. Yeah. Right
[01:06:52] bunker. Try and get it 15 20 feet right
[01:06:54] of the flag. Pin high.
[01:06:59] Very nice.
[01:07:03] Good play.
[01:07:04] Nice. There it is.
[01:07:05] Yeah.
[01:07:07] So, this is a little right to left. This
[01:07:08] is a downhill. This is a tough putt.
[01:07:15] Turn.
[01:07:16] Come on, darling.
[01:07:17] Turn.
[01:07:18] Come on, darling.
[01:07:20] Can't push that.
[01:07:21] So, the thing Ray Dome is to talk
[01:07:23] yourself into putts, not out of putts.
[01:07:25] Into shots, not out of shots. So many
[01:07:27] people, oh, I don't know if it's right
[01:07:28] edge. I don't know if it's 2%, 1%. It is
[01:07:31] this. It's going to be this. I'm going
[01:07:32] to roll it this way. It's like be fully
[01:07:34] committed because you can never know
[01:07:36] exactly. So, you might as well talk
[01:07:37] yourself into it rather than out of it,
[01:07:39] right?
[01:07:40] So, I want your goal on this one to be
[01:07:41] fully committed to this putt. You're
[01:07:42] committed to the line. You've seen it
[01:07:44] roll into the hole. Now, set up and
[01:07:46] afterwards, just be able to say, I was I
[01:07:48] was committed to the putt. Doesn't
[01:07:49] matter if it went in or not. I was
[01:07:50] committed to the process and executing
[01:07:51] the shot that I believe was the right
[01:07:53] shot.
[01:07:56] Were you committed?
[01:07:57] Yep. Oh,
[01:07:58] okay. But so, but but do you get what
[01:08:00] I'm saying is you were committed. The
[01:08:02] ball just caught the lip.
[01:08:03] Yeah.
[01:08:03] You don't have a technique problem. You
[01:08:05] have a tension problem.
[01:08:06] Got it.
[01:08:06] Managing tension. And what I want you to
[01:08:08] do is get into tournaments. So, you
[01:08:11] start to realize how the emotions start
[01:08:13] to change when you're in a tournament
[01:08:15] and the tension will rise and the
[01:08:16] frustration and all this, but you start
[01:08:18] to learn how to manage that and you
[01:08:20] start to learn that like that is the
[01:08:22] skill set you have to work on.
[01:08:24] Gotcha. So on this last hole, to make it
[01:08:26] a bit of fun, we're going to go ahead
[01:08:27] and make go make training hard. So we're
[01:08:29] going to make this last hole a little
[01:08:31] bit of fun for you. Okay.
[01:08:32] Okay. All right. So you've been through
[01:08:34] like obviously so much in your career.
[01:08:38] If you had to pinpoint like one of the
[01:08:40] the greatest achievements that you've
[01:08:42] ever experienced, what do what do you
[01:08:44] think it could it would be?
[01:08:45] Picking the right wife. having a wife
[01:08:47] who's put up with me for 20 about to be
[01:08:49] 22 years and given me two amazing young
[01:08:52] children, two two great kids. Um, that
[01:08:55] was a great achievement because again, I
[01:08:58] was uh, yeah, I was all over the shop. I
[01:09:01] was the crazy man. And so, no, that's
[01:09:02] true. One of the biggest blessings I'd
[01:09:04] say in my life is my wife and my kids,
[01:09:06] you know what I mean? Just having a wife
[01:09:07] that supports me, let me live my dream
[01:09:09] of going and trying to play professional
[01:09:10] and then coach
[01:09:12] um, and focus, you know, on on really
[01:09:14] what I wanted to do for a living. Um,
[01:09:16] and then greatest accomplishment,
[01:09:19] you know, I mean, I think, you know, one
[01:09:21] of the biggest things is after the
[01:09:22] tsunami, I wrote down on a piece of
[01:09:24] paper, I said, if I'm going to stop
[01:09:25] playing golf,
[01:09:26] I got to do something big. And to me, it
[01:09:27] was revolutionized golf instruction
[01:09:29] worldwide.
[01:09:30] Yeah.
[01:09:30] Pretty small task.
[01:09:31] Yeah.
[01:09:31] But what I meant by that is that we
[01:09:33] should be able to guarantee lower scores
[01:09:34] for golfers.
[01:09:35] Yeah. Out of this this scoring method,
[01:09:38] Yeah. What is like the best success
[01:09:40] story or like drop from the your one of
[01:09:42] your students from like a extremely high
[01:09:44] score just purely off doing this?
[01:09:45] I had uh I had two guys go from both.
[01:09:48] One guy was a lawyer who said he shot
[01:09:50] 120 with a little bit of shoot cheating.
[01:09:52] He shot 81.
[01:09:53] Yeah.
[01:09:54] 120 to 81.
[01:09:55] 81 in 10 weeks. I had another guy go
[01:09:57] from about 115 to 120 down to 80.
[01:10:00] That's insane.
[01:10:01] Because we took him on a golf course to
[01:10:02] teach him how to practice, teach him how
[01:10:03] to think, teach him how to get the ball
[01:10:04] around the golf course. Do you know what
[01:10:06] I mean?
[01:10:06] Dang, that's crazy. 30 strokes. Oh, I
[01:10:08] had a guy I had a guy never played golf
[01:10:09] before. Within 12 weeks, he broke broke
[01:10:11] 100. This is the first time I ever did
[01:10:12] the program back in 2008 or April Fool's
[01:10:14] Day in 2008. First time I did it. And I
[01:10:17] had a guy I had a one guy who was a
[01:10:18] pastor. He's like 77, 79, 76, shot 69.
[01:10:22] What?
[01:10:22] But I just got him out his own way,
[01:10:24] right? I taught him how to train in a
[01:10:25] way that would make him more effective.
[01:10:27] Okay.
[01:10:27] And this is what I want to do for you is
[01:10:29] help you with all the knowledge that
[01:10:30] you're getting from Chris, all the stuff
[01:10:31] that you're working on with your putting
[01:10:32] and chipping, your full swing. It's like
[01:10:33] now get on the golf course and reduce
[01:10:36] the tension. And when you're off the
[01:10:37] golf course, train hard on this hole. To
[01:10:39] make it harder, we're going to play
[01:10:40] worst ball golf. You have to hit two
[01:10:42] balls on every single shot.
[01:10:44] Okay, let's do it.
[01:10:44] And see if you can make a bogey.
[01:10:46] Okay.
[01:10:46] Okay. Yeah. Yeah, let's do it.
[01:10:47] So, now you got to do two of them. So,
[01:10:49] if you got to hit two of these shots,
[01:10:50] what's your target going to be?
[01:10:51] Two of these shots. Um,
[01:10:53] I'm going to play the worst.
[01:10:54] Right now, I'm I'm aiming right at where
[01:10:56] that um
[01:10:57] tower is. Tower. Love it. Left edge of
[01:10:59] the tower.
[01:11:00] Left edge of the tower.
[01:11:00] Love it. Perfect.
[01:11:06] Beautiful.
[01:11:08] Good job. Now do it again.
[01:11:18] Okay. Were you committed?
[01:11:20] Yeah, I was.
[01:11:21] Okay, cool.
[01:11:22] But I felt like I hit something like a
[01:11:24] big
[01:11:25] face was a little open at impact. Okay,
[01:11:26] so now we get to go and play two of
[01:11:28] those bunk shots.
[01:11:29] So, first ball came here and the the
[01:11:32] worst ball is in the bunker. So,
[01:11:33] yeah, shortsided. So instead of having a
[01:11:35] nice little 40ft putt, we have a short
[01:11:37] side of bunker shot.
[01:11:38] Actually, my lag putts are worse than
[01:11:39] that.
[01:11:41] But again, now it's going to challenge
[01:11:42] you to get very, very focused on target.
[01:11:45] And that's the big work for you right
[01:11:46] now. Oh, it's not in the bunker. That's
[01:11:48] harder than this one. That's harder. You
[01:11:50] got to do Well, hold on. Let me take a
[01:11:51] look.
[01:11:52] Is it? What do you think?
[01:11:53] I don't know.
[01:11:55] This runs away. I think
[01:11:56] Oh, it is. What do you think?
[01:11:57] Actually, let's see.
[01:11:58] I think this is harder.
[01:12:00] Okay, let's try it.
[01:12:01] Okay, so now you drop two balls down.
[01:12:03] Oh yeah.
[01:12:04] Yeah. Two more and two with sort of say
[01:12:07] the same sort of lie to try and
[01:12:09] replicate.
[01:12:10] I'll just put it back on.
[01:12:11] Yeah. Okay. Put right there.
[01:12:12] Okay. Get fully committed. Now think
[01:12:15] about it. Negative. I know. But what we
[01:12:17] want to do is be realistic. Where can we
[01:12:18] not leave this one?
[01:12:20] Sure. Right. So, let's land it on. If it
[01:12:22] releases 8 ft by, we're fine with that.
[01:12:24] Yeah.
[01:12:24] Get committed to that golf shot. See
[01:12:26] that shot? Commit to it.
[01:12:30] Beautiful.
[01:12:33] Oh, nifty.
[01:12:35] Like we said, you know, we're about 8 to
[01:12:37] 10 feet by. That's why I think it was a
[01:12:38] little bit tougher is because of the
[01:12:40] putt, the putt on the green. I think you
[01:12:41] could have got the lag easier. This is
[01:12:43] running away from you.
[01:12:44] Oh, this is
[01:12:44] all right. So, it's the worst one,
[01:12:46] right? So, you still got to stay
[01:12:47] committed to this golf shot. Full
[01:12:48] commitment.
[01:12:51] Okay. So, guess what? What you get to
[01:12:53] do? This one right here.
[01:12:55] Dang it.
[01:12:56] Yeah, absolutely. But look, this is this
[01:12:58] is the thing, right? is that we want to
[01:13:00] train in a way that when you come out
[01:13:01] for nine holes in the evening, you know,
[01:13:04] I want you to train in a way that's just
[01:13:06] so much tougher than real golf. Cuz what
[01:13:08] do most people do? They throw down
[01:13:09] another one. Oh, I wouldn't have done
[01:13:10] that in a tournament. Oh, yes, you would
[01:13:12] have. You know,
[01:13:12] yeah, probably worse.
[01:13:13] Okay, so it's sitting down a little bit.
[01:13:15] Okay,
[01:13:15] go ahead. Let's see it.
[01:13:22] Not bad. It's pretty fluffy line,
[01:13:24] wouldn't it?
[01:13:24] Yeah.
[01:13:24] Okay.
[01:13:25] I think this actually has to go even
[01:13:26] deeper, right? Was like this. Yeah,
[01:13:28] about that.
[01:13:34] Oh, too much.
[01:13:36] Okay.
[01:13:37] I think it's
[01:13:38] So, probably this one that's rolling
[01:13:40] down,
[01:13:40] I think. So, yeah.
[01:13:46] There you go. That's nice. So, that's
[01:13:48] that one would be, you know, I mean,
[01:13:49] that would move out of the way, but
[01:13:50] you'd have to make two of those, which
[01:13:51] obviously you can do, but now you got to
[01:13:53] repeat it, right? You don't want this
[01:13:54] one to get by. Otherwise, you have to do
[01:13:55] two of those.
[01:14:03] Very nice. You can make two of those.
[01:14:05] Yeah.
[01:14:05] Okay. So, let's take a look now. And
[01:14:08] look how much the big thing, right,
[01:14:10] Jerome? Is this is that what most people
[01:14:12] do is when they don't play the golf they
[01:14:13] want, they get frustrated.
[01:14:14] Yeah.
[01:14:15] There's no feedback. you know what you
[01:14:17] got a degree in is this idea of like
[01:14:19] just looking and observing and not being
[01:14:21] emotional to it and being like right the
[01:14:23] feedback is the second shot I I knew I
[01:14:26] couldn't miss right with a short-sided
[01:14:28] pin so I should have just tugged one
[01:14:30] over here
[01:14:31] this one I know that I can't leave this
[01:14:33] one short the second one I should be
[01:14:34] more aggressive so if you're open to
[01:14:36] learning this game is going to teach you
[01:14:38] so quickly how to start to pick the
[01:14:40] shots that you have the competency level
[01:14:43] for
[01:14:43] Gotcha gotcha
[01:14:44] and then when you go to the range and
[01:14:45] train Can I narrow it and narrow it and
[01:14:47] narrow it? Does that make sense?
[01:14:48] Yeah. And before we get to the most
[01:14:49] important part of this lesson where Will
[01:14:51] shares the final rule and the last
[01:14:53] secrets to finally break your next
[01:14:54] scoring milestone, he gives a few tips
[01:14:56] you can start using right away to build
[01:14:58] discipline and learn how to consistently
[01:15:00] shoot lower scores. What would you say
[01:15:02] apart from this game that other people
[01:15:04] could take to try to go from the 20 to
[01:15:07] 10 hand cap, 10 to 10 cap, or even just
[01:15:09] become a scratch golfer? Yeah, I think I
[01:15:11] think the path to scratch is the key
[01:15:12] thing cuz I think if you all sort of
[01:15:14] shoot for that and you start thinking
[01:15:15] about what does a scratch player do,
[01:15:17] you're going to improve whether you're a
[01:15:18] 20, a 10, or a five.
[01:15:19] Yeah.
[01:15:20] So, I would be saying on the golf
[01:15:21] course, the two things I would say,
[01:15:23] especially for where you're at, is worse
[01:15:25] ball golf
[01:15:26] cuz it will teach you discipline. It'll
[01:15:28] teach you to get committed. It'll teach
[01:15:29] you to pick the easy shots. It will
[01:15:32] teach you not to get lazy over putts cuz
[01:15:33] you got to hit the second one as well.
[01:15:35] Yeah. The next one I would do is play it
[01:15:37] forward and go off on the reds and go
[01:15:39] out and go as low as you can and try and
[01:15:40] drive greens and hit par fives with
[01:15:42] pitches wedges because what'll happen is
[01:15:44] it makes you hit driver really straight.
[01:15:46] It puts a lot of pressure on your wedges
[01:15:48] and it teaches you how to go low. So
[01:15:50] what I'd love to see you do is, hey,
[01:15:51] once a week I play worse ball for nine
[01:15:53] holes.
[01:15:54] You send me a text telling me what you
[01:15:55] did.
[01:15:56] Okay.
[01:15:56] Then you go ahead, you play forward T's
[01:15:59] nine holes. How low can you go? Hey, I
[01:16:00] shot 200. I shot 300. because you're
[01:16:02] like, "Oh, I was on on the par five in
[01:16:04] two drive a nine iron and I twed for a
[01:16:06] birdie." Great. Good for you. It'll
[01:16:08] teach you how to get comfortable making
[01:16:09] a lot of birdies. So, those would be the
[01:16:11] two games I would say that really help.
[01:16:12] One teaches you how to go low. One
[01:16:14] teaches you how to be disciplined. So,
[01:16:16] here's
[01:16:18] here's where I think the biggest thing
[01:16:19] that we've got to start to do, right, is
[01:16:21] what we talked about. Start practicing,
[01:16:23] start training.
[01:16:23] Yeah.
[01:16:24] So, here's what I want you to do is
[01:16:25] every time you come out to train
[01:16:27] Yeah.
[01:16:28] Think about it. When you're on a golf
[01:16:29] course, you have one golf ball.
[01:16:30] Mhm.
[01:16:31] Okay. Y
[01:16:31] you have expectations.
[01:16:33] You have a score card,
[01:16:35] right?
[01:16:35] There's pressure.
[01:16:36] Yeah.
[01:16:37] So, this is a purpose of practice card.
[01:16:38] Okay.
[01:16:39] So, what we're going to say is when you
[01:16:40] get done with the round
[01:16:41] Yeah.
[01:16:41] We had one three putt, two three putts.
[01:16:44] Okay. Well, how many times in your round
[01:16:46] do you need to do purposeful practice?
[01:16:48] Why do it twice? Because I three putt it
[01:16:50] twice.
[01:16:51] Oh, I see.
[01:16:51] So, I'm going to put two times in here.
[01:16:53] How many putts did I miss inside of four
[01:16:55] feet? One. Oh, I've only got to do that
[01:16:57] once. How many times did I not get up
[01:16:59] and down
[01:17:01] in so let's see in in for you you're
[01:17:03] going to be down the road at level two
[01:17:04] which is down in two but let's just say
[01:17:06] down in three you had a down in four
[01:17:08] once two you have to do your homework
[01:17:10] three times you're up and down again
[01:17:12] three times okay how many times are you
[01:17:14] not in the scoring zone we got in the
[01:17:17] scoring zone all day today
[01:17:18] okay good
[01:17:18] now we played that one hole the second
[01:17:20] hole twice
[01:17:21] but if you'd have done that it would
[01:17:22] have been like oh I've got to go to the
[01:17:23] range and do my go-to club once but
[01:17:25] right now off of this round there's no
[01:17:26] work to be done on on full swing.
[01:17:29] Whereas, be honest, after today, you'd
[01:17:30] be like, I got to work on my full swing
[01:17:32] again, don't I? Be honest. Right.
[01:17:33] Yeah. Yeah.
[01:17:34] You be like, I gotta go to the range and
[01:17:35] it's full. And I'm saying, no, because
[01:17:37] there's a down in four, there's a down
[01:17:39] in four, and there's a down in four. You
[01:17:41] shot 41. If they all become down in
[01:17:43] threes, you just shot 38. And you're
[01:17:45] like,
[01:17:47] and I didn't allow you to hit driver
[01:17:49] towards the end of the game. I didn't
[01:17:51] allow you to aim at the targets you
[01:17:52] wanted. I made you lag putt, just easy
[01:17:54] tapins and not try and make the putts.
[01:17:56] Yeah. So, we played easy, but we trained
[01:17:58] hard. And what we want to do is have
[01:18:00] those two meet in the middle.
[01:18:01] Oh, I see. I see.
[01:18:02] Right. So, when you go to the out here,
[01:18:03] like I train the same way I play.
[01:18:06] Got it.
[01:18:06] And when I play, I play the same way I
[01:18:07] train.
[01:18:08] Got it.
[01:18:08] All right. So, here's what we're going
[01:18:09] to do. It's super easy. I'm going to get
[01:18:10] five T's. Watch this. We're even going
[01:18:12] to go to three feet. I'm going to make
[01:18:14] this so easy for you, Jerome. It's It's
[01:18:16] sick how easy this is going to be. All
[01:18:18] right. Cameras are on. Camera's rolling.
[01:18:20] So, that's a 3ft pot, right? Cuz your
[01:18:21] P's probably about 32 to 34 in. Yeah.
[01:18:24] And all we're going to do is we're going
[01:18:25] to go around the hole.
[01:18:29] We're going to start on the pencil. Do
[01:18:30] you have one more tea?
[01:18:31] Yeah.
[01:18:32] Okay.
[01:18:34] This is what makes champions. And if
[01:18:35] you're watching here, all the high
[01:18:37] handicappers, this is what you need to
[01:18:38] do. And low handicappers and scratch
[01:18:40] golfers.
[01:18:41] Yeah. Okay. So, we're going to start on
[01:18:42] the pencil. And all you got to do is go
[01:18:44] around this circle once. And I want a
[01:18:46] reasonably flat putt. I don't want it to
[01:18:47] be until you can get 10 in a row easily.
[01:18:49] I don't want you to be playing a ton of
[01:18:51] break. Now, whatever routine you go
[01:18:54] through out on the golf course, I want
[01:18:56] you to do here.
[01:18:57] Okay.
[01:19:04] Just a little bit too much space.
[01:19:06] Okay. Just a little bit too much space.
[01:19:06] That's all right. Okay. Let's go on to
[01:19:07] the next one.
[01:19:08] Not going to lie, I was a little
[01:19:09] stressed out.
[01:19:10] Okay. So, let me ask you this. Why? So,
[01:19:12] let's draw. Why were you stressed out?
[01:19:14] Cuz I wanted to perform uh for this uh
[01:19:16] drill.
[01:19:17] Okay. So, let me answer this. Practice
[01:19:19] makes what? Wait.
[01:19:20] Uh
[01:19:22] Uh, permanent.
[01:19:23] Permanent. Okay. Yeah.
[01:19:24] So, what do most people do when they
[01:19:26] practice? Do they practice under
[01:19:27] pressure or they practice removing
[01:19:28] pressure?
[01:19:29] Uh, removing pressure.
[01:19:30] Yeah. They have five balls and go, "Oh,
[01:19:33] look, I made 10 in a row. All dead
[01:19:35] straight putts."
[01:19:36] Mhm.
[01:19:36] So, my point is that I want you to feel
[01:19:38] like, "God, this is really important.
[01:19:39] Don't mess it up. I better Do you see
[01:19:41] what I'm saying?" So, I'm putting you in
[01:19:42] the same experience of what you have
[01:19:44] standing over a 3-ft putt. This is for a
[01:19:46] birdie to shoot 79. Just commit to the
[01:19:49] routine and just go through your
[01:19:50] routine. It doesn't mean anything. It's
[01:19:51] just a 3ft part. Okay. All right.
[01:19:54] And with that rule number 10 is practice
[01:19:56] makes permanence. Repetition builds
[01:19:58] identity. You don't rise to the level of
[01:20:00] your goals. You fall to the level of
[01:20:02] your habits. And even though this is the
[01:20:03] final rule, will will soon leave you
[01:20:05] with something even more meaningful than
[01:20:07] all 10 rules combined. There's a line on
[01:20:09] it.
[01:20:10] Oh man.
[01:20:10] Okay. So, do you see what I'm saying is
[01:20:13] you've got disciplines. Now, this is J.
[01:20:15] This is the biggest thing that I see,
[01:20:16] right? Yeah.
[01:20:27] You're going to through your data,
[01:20:28] you're going to prove what you should
[01:20:29] do. But if you get 10 in a row taking 12
[01:20:32] seconds and out there you miss five
[01:20:33] putts cuz it took you a minute. What do
[01:20:35] you think you might want to do on the
[01:20:36] golf course? Hurry up there and slow
[01:20:38] down here.
[01:20:39] Do you see what I'm saying? But most
[01:20:40] people go quick here and they get on the
[01:20:42] golf course and go plumb bob it. They
[01:20:44] spider it. They aim it every six ways to
[01:20:47] Sunday. And I'm like, how about just
[01:20:48] hitting it, dude? It's a three foot
[01:20:49] putt, right? So, I just want you to
[01:20:51] build it. If you're going to use a line,
[01:20:52] use it every single time. Right.
[01:20:54] Got it.
[01:20:54] And I love the use of the line.
[01:21:01] Very nice. Come and take a look at this.
[01:21:03] Let's get a camera on this real quick.
[01:21:04] Okay. So, there's four and four.
[01:21:06] Yeah.
[01:21:06] So, we're going to day our training
[01:21:08] today, we achieved an eight.
[01:21:09] Yeah.
[01:21:10] Okay. So, let's just say we only miss
[01:21:12] one. Okay. That's our work done. Okay.
[01:21:14] But here's the deal is the next time you
[01:21:16] come out
[01:21:17] Yeah.
[01:21:17] you have to be eight. So your target
[01:21:18] score is now nine.
[01:21:21] Okay. Okay.
[01:21:22] Okay. So you want to know I used to I
[01:21:24] used to when I got engaged to my wife I
[01:21:26] moved down to Ply del Rey and I used to
[01:21:28] go out and there was a
[01:21:29] an old driving range there with a
[01:21:31] putting green. I can't remember what
[01:21:32] it's called in Elsa Gundu I think it
[01:21:33] was. And I'd be out there and I'd do
[01:21:35] this. I once I at 3 foot you go to three
[01:21:37] and 1/2t. Once you get 10 you go to
[01:21:39] three and 1/2t. Then you go to four
[01:21:40] foot. Then four and 1/2 ft to 5t. Right.
[01:21:42] I'd be out there and I'd be I'd be, you
[01:21:44] know, I'd be over my ninth putt and I'd
[01:21:47] be backing off like, "Dude, do not miss
[01:21:49] this. Like, commit, right?" And I'd make
[01:21:52] it on my come on. And everyone's, "Who's
[01:21:55] the psycho on the green over there?"
[01:21:57] Like, you weirdo. But to me, it was I
[01:22:00] don't want to be here another hour and a
[01:22:02] half. I've been here an hour. My back's
[01:22:03] hurting. But I was grinding. Then
[01:22:06] everyone said to me like, "Well, how
[01:22:07] come you like how do you not miss putts
[01:22:09] inside of 6 ft? Like you make
[01:22:10] everything, dude? I I'd spray it all
[01:22:12] over the planet. It wouldn't like but I
[01:22:13] knew how to scramble, right? I grew up
[01:22:15] playing in the wind and the wet, right?
[01:22:16] I know how to scramble, get the ball in
[01:22:18] the hole. Why? Because I trained at such
[01:22:20] a level that when I stood over 5T, I was
[01:22:21] like, "What if I miss it? I just go to
[01:22:23] the next hole. I don't have to spend an
[01:22:24] hour here." So, you'll literally find
[01:22:26] yourself backing off of shots being
[01:22:28] like, "Come on, dude." Like, if I'm
[01:22:29] committing to 10 of 10?
[01:22:31] Yeah.
[01:22:31] I don't get to go and do my little
[01:22:33] driving range session if I don't do 10
[01:22:35] here. Do you see the difference? This is
[01:22:36] going to piss you off so much. actually
[01:22:38] going to text me where you're like, I
[01:22:40] just want to work on my swing. I'm like,
[01:22:42] mate, the commitment you have on this
[01:22:44] shot is when you get on the course and
[01:22:46] go, I'm not aiming at the flag. I'm
[01:22:47] aiming 25 ft left and I'm staying
[01:22:49] committed. Cuz if you can't do it over a
[01:22:51] 3ft P in the putting green, you are not
[01:22:53] going to do it in a tournament on the
[01:22:54] 18th hole when you're leading a leading
[01:22:56] an event.
[01:22:57] Yeah.
[01:22:57] Because you won't have the emotional
[01:22:59] muscle. And this is what I say to people
[01:23:00] is people say to me, but will I play
[01:23:02] with these really good players? I'm
[01:23:03] like, I hit it as far as them. I can hit
[01:23:05] the shots that they have. I I've got the
[01:23:06] ability that I have. I say, "Yeah, you
[01:23:08] do. So, think of it this way. Think of
[01:23:10] this visual. There's a plank between me
[01:23:11] and the camera and it's 12 in wide." And
[01:23:13] I tell you, "Go ahead and walk on the
[01:23:14] plank. It's 10 ft 15 ft in length." And
[01:23:16] I just do that. Super easy.
[01:23:18] Yeah.
[01:23:18] Okay. Now, I say, "Let's put the plank
[01:23:20] on top of two carts."
[01:23:21] So, it's about a sixt drop, but I'd be
[01:23:23] more like Okay.
[01:23:26] All right. I'm doing it. I'm doing it.
[01:23:28] Now, let's put it up 100 ft in the air.
[01:23:32] I'm just grabbing the plank going, "Help
[01:23:34] me go." So, it may look like I have the
[01:23:36] ability, I have the technique, but can I
[01:23:39] do it when there's $15 million on the
[01:23:41] line for the FedEx Cup?
[01:23:43] Because that's up on top of a mountain.
[01:23:45] That's a 3,000 ft drop. You drop, the
[01:23:47] whole world sees you choke.
[01:23:48] Yeah.
[01:23:48] So, what are they doing? They're just
[01:23:50] saying this. I'm on a 12ft piece of
[01:23:51] wood. I'm just walking across a 12ft
[01:23:53] piece of wood. But they've trained
[01:23:54] themselves by leveling up, by going from
[01:23:56] the ground
[01:23:58] to 3 feet to three and 1/2 ft to four
[01:24:00] feet to 10 in a row every time you
[01:24:02] train. Now, think about this. If I told
[01:24:05] you for the next 10 days, you did this
[01:24:06] 10 days in a row, 10 in a row from three
[01:24:08] feet, and you went to the green, would
[01:24:10] you question how good you're putting
[01:24:12] right now? Or would you internally like,
[01:24:14] "Dude, I'm playing phenomenal right now
[01:24:16] because you've trained it."
[01:24:17] If you've got 10 in a row, the data
[01:24:19] would tell you you're not going to miss
[01:24:21] this putt.
[01:24:22] Your competency level's risen,
[01:24:24] and so your confidence level rises.
[01:24:25] Yeah.
[01:24:26] So, do you see how this will transfer to
[01:24:27] the golf course? Cuz you're like,
[01:24:29] mate, why wouldn't I make it? I've made
[01:24:31] my I've made I've done 10 in a row every
[01:24:32] time I come out practice. the potential
[01:24:34] is inside of them. Even if you're a 23
[01:24:36] handicap, you know you can play to a 15.
[01:24:38] If you're 15, you know you can play to a
[01:24:39] nine. But are you training the right
[01:24:41] way? Let's be honest, probably not.
[01:24:43] You're just putting loads of reps in
[01:24:45] with loads of tech in technique in
[01:24:47] versus test it, test it, test it under
[01:24:49] pressure to learn how to play under
[01:24:51] tension.
[01:24:51] And just like how Will believes you've
[01:24:53] had the potential inside you all along,
[01:24:55] you need to understand that although
[01:24:56] these 10 rules will help you break 90,
[01:24:58] 80, or even scratch, some rules are
[01:25:01] meant to be broken. Because this channel
[01:25:03] has never been about me. I'm not the
[01:25:05] hero in this story. You are.
