# The Dark Night of the Soul Explained: Awakening Through Silence and Doubt| Inspired by Deepak Chopra

[00:00] Have you ever felt as if life itself was pulling the ground out from under you?
[00:05] Leaving you in a tunnel so dark you could not tell where you were going or who you even were?
[00:13] Moments when all the old answers stop working.
[00:17] When the certainties you leaned on collapse.
[00:20] And suddenly the question of why you exist becomes heavier than anything you have ever carried.
[00:25] This is not simply sadness or confusion.
[00:30] It is what mystics and seekers through centuries have called the dark night of the soul.
[00:39] It feels like abandonment.
[00:42] It feels like death of the self you thought you knew.
[00:48] Yet hidden inside it is the seed of transformation.
[00:51] Stay with me because in this video we will walk straight into that darkness together.
[00:56] Not to escape it, but to see how it opens into light, peace,
[01:02] opens into light, peace, and the deeper truth of who you are.
[01:04] and the deeper truth of who you are.
[01:06] When we speak of the dark night of the soul, we're not speaking of an ordinary difficulty or a passing sadness that comes and goes with the weather.
[01:14] We are pointing to a moment in the spiritual journey when the identity you have built, the roles you play, and the story you tell yourself suddenly begin to unravel.
[01:23] It can arrive in the quiet of the night when you stare at the ceiling and wonder what meaning your life truly holds.
[01:35] It can arrive in the middle of a crowded street when the noise of the world feels empty and the thought arises, "If I were gone tomorrow, would anything really change?"
[01:49] This question is not meant to depress you.
[01:52] It is the beginning of a new vision.
[01:54] A moment when the surface of life cracks and something deeper demands to be seen.
[02:02] At first, this experience is terrifying.
[02:05] At first, this experience is terrifying.
[02:07] We are used to the comfort of our familiar certainties,
[02:09] even if those certainties are built on shaky ground.
[02:13] We know who we are by the names we carry,
[02:16] the jobs we perform, the relationships we maintain, but when these anchors begin to slip away,
[02:24] when you realize they are not permanent and cannot ultimately define you,
[02:28] the mind panics.
[02:30] Doubt arises, fear arises, and sometimes even despair.
[02:38] You might feel that you are dissolving into nothing,
[02:40] that all you believed yourself to be is vanishing into a silence you cannot control.
[02:45] This moment has been described across cultures.
[02:48] In Christian mysticism, Saint John of the Cross called it the dark night,
[02:56] a stage where the soul feels abandoned by God.
[03:02] In this state, prayer feels dry, comfort disappears,
[03:07] comfort disappears, and what once gave you strength
[03:10] and what once gave you strength now feels hollow.
[03:13] now feels hollow. In Buddhist and Hindu traditions, it appears as the great
[03:16] traditions, it appears as the great doubt
[03:18] doubt or the collapse of the ego's illusions.
[03:21] or the collapse of the ego's illusions. It is not a punishment,
[03:24] It is not a punishment, but a phase of purification,
[03:26] but a phase of purification, a dismantling of false supports so that
[03:30] a dismantling of false supports so that the deeper essence of who you are can
[03:32] the deeper essence of who you are can emerge. Imagine a seed underground.
[03:36] emerge. Imagine a seed underground. Before it can rise into the light,
[03:39] Before it can rise into the light, it must crack open. It must dissolve. It
[03:42] it must crack open. It must dissolve. It must endure the darkness of the soil.
[03:47] must endure the darkness of the soil. Only then can it break through and grow
[03:49] Only then can it break through and grow toward the sun day. On a personal level,
[03:53] toward the sun day. On a personal level, you may recognize this as a time when
[03:56] you may recognize this as a time when you question your relevance, when you
[03:58] you question your relevance, when you wonder if your actions matter,
[04:01] wonder if your actions matter, or if your presence makes a difference
[04:03] or if your presence makes a difference at all. Perhaps you look at your legacy
[04:07] at all. Perhaps you look at your legacy and see how quickly
[04:09] and see how quickly names and faces fade from memory.
[04:13] fade from memory. You realize that even those you love most will eventually move on,
[04:21] and in a few generations, you may be forgotten entirely.
[04:26] This is a sobering truth, and yet it carries a strange kind of freedom.
[04:35] If all the things you clung to for importance are temporary, then perhaps your value lies not in the roles you play, but in the simple fact of being itself.
[04:46] The dark night strips away the illusion of permanence. It forces you to confront the fragility of the ego and the fleeting nature of worldly recognition.
[04:57] At first, this confrontation feels like death, but beneath that death is the possibility of new life.
[05:05] Just as a caterpillar dissolves into a formless state before becoming a butterfly, the self you thought you were must dissolve
[05:11] The self you thought you were must dissolve before the deeper self can awaken.
[05:15] This is why tradition speak of the dark night not as an end, but as a passage, a tunnel that leads from one way of being into another.
[05:24] As you walk through this tunnel, the mind will resist.
[05:30] It will whisper that you are lost, that you will never find peace again.
[05:35] It will cling to old habits, old pleasures, old distractions.
[05:40] And yet, if you stay present, if you simply observe without running away, you will notice something subtle.
[05:49] In the middle of the loss, there is awareness itself.
[05:53] Steady and unbroken, even when every thought dissolves.
[05:58] Even when memory falters, even when identity collapses, awareness remains.
[06:08] That awareness is who you truly are.
[06:11] It is not bound by name or form.
[06:11] It is not diminished by death or amplified by
[06:14] not diminished by death or amplified by fame.
[06:17] It is the silent presence in which fame.
[06:17] It is the silent presence in which every experience rises and falls.
[06:20] every experience rises and falls.
[06:23] This recognition is the first light that appears in the darkness.
[06:25] appears in the darkness.
[06:28] It does not come as fireworks or as a sudden ecstasy.
[06:31] It arrives quietly, like dawn breaking after a long night.
[06:33] quietly, like dawn breaking after a long night.
[06:36] You realize that the ground you thought you lost was never the true ground.
[06:38] you lost was never the true ground.
[06:43] The real foundation is awareness itself, unshakable and timeless.
[06:46] The real foundation is awareness itself, unshakable
[06:48] unshakable and timeless.
[06:52] From this discovery, a new kind of strength is born.
[06:55] kind of strength is born.
[06:58] Not the strength of ego asserting its importance,
[06:59] importance, but the strength of surrender, of resting in the mystery that holds you.
[07:02] but the strength of surrender, of resting in the mystery that holds
[07:05] of resting in the mystery that holds you.
[07:06] you.
[07:10] The paradox is clear. On the one hand, you are insignificant in the vast flow of history.
[07:13] you are insignificant in the vast flow of history.
[07:15] of history.
[07:19] Names vanish, bodies return to dust,
[07:19] Names vanish, bodies return to dust, and achievements fade.
[07:22] On the other hand, you are the very essence of the
[07:24] universe expressing itself as this moment, as this body, as this
[07:32] consciousness.
[07:34] You are both nothing and everything.
[07:36] You are the silence that holds the stars
[07:40] and the breath that rises and
[07:43] within your chest, the dark night
[07:45] teaches you to live in this paradox.
[07:48] To accept insignificance without despair
[07:52] and to embrace uniqueness without pride.
[07:55] As you begin to see this, the fear starts to soften.
[07:57] What once felt like a loss now feels like liberation.
[08:00] What once felt like death now feels like
[08:03] birth.
[08:05] You no longer need to cling to recognition or permanence
[08:07] because you have touched the presence
[08:10] that does not vanish.
[08:17] that does not vanish.
[08:19] You can look at the unknown not as an enemy but as an infinite horizon.
[08:24] The unknown is not there to crush you but to remind you of the vastness you belong to.
[08:30] A vastness that can never be captured by words or measured by time.
[08:37] In this way, the dark night becomes the doorway to awakening.
[08:42] It is not meant to destroy you though it may feel that way at first.
[08:49] It is meant to reveal the deeper ground of your being.
[08:51] If you can trust the process, if you can stay with the discomfort, you will find that what emerges is a peace that surpasses understanding.
[09:04] It is a peace not dependent on circumstances, not dependent on recognition, not dependent on anything outside of you.
[09:13] It is a peace that flows naturally because it is what you are.
[09:16] So, when you
[09:19] because it is what you are.
[09:20] So, when you feel lost, feel lost, when you feel stripped of meaning,
[09:23] when you feel stripped of meaning, when you feel abandoned even by the divine,
[09:27] divine, remember that this very emptiness may be the path itself.
[09:32] may be the path itself.
[09:34] The tunnel has an end.
[09:38] The night has a dawn, and the self that emerges is not the small ego trying to control life,
[09:43] life, but the vast awareness that has always been here, silently waiting to be recognized.
[09:50] silently waiting to be recognized.
[09:53] When we look more deeply into the dark night of the soul, we find that it is not just a personal struggle.
[09:57] we find that it is not just a personal struggle.
[10:01] It is part of a universal pattern that mystics, sages, and ordinary seekers have walked through for centuries.
[10:04] It is part of a universal pattern
[10:06] that mystics, sages,
[10:08] sages, and ordinary seekers have walked through for centuries.
[10:11] for centuries.
[10:14] The details may differ, but the essence is always the same.
[10:18] but the essence is always the same.
[10:18] Something in us is called to die
[10:22] Something in us is called to die so that something truer can be born.
[10:25] So that something truer can be born.
[10:26] At first, this can feel cruel
[10:29] Because the mind clings to what is familiar.
[10:32] It clings to identity, to comfort, to security.
[10:35] It clings to identity,
[10:37] to comfort,
[10:39] to security.
[10:40] But the deeper wisdom of life is relentless.
[10:42] It does not allow us to remain asleep in illusions forever.
[10:45] It does not allow us to remain asleep in
[10:47] illusions forever.
[10:49] The dark night is the alarm that shakes us awake.
[10:53] In the Christian tradition, Saint John of the Cross described this stage as a stripping away of attachments, both worldly and spiritual.
[10:55] Saint John of the Cross described this
[10:57] stage as a stripping away of
[10:59] attachments,
[11:02] both worldly and spiritual.
[11:04] Imagine a person who has prayed with devotion for years,
[11:06] who has relied on the sweetness of divine presence to carry them through, suddenly finding that every prayer feels empty, every word falls into silence, and God seems absent.
[11:08] who has relied on the sweetness of
[11:11] divine presence to carry them through,
[11:14] suddenly finding that every prayer feels
[11:15] empty,
[11:19] every word falls into silence, and God seems absent.
[11:22] seems absent.
[11:22] This absence is not a punishment, it is a purification.
[11:25] punishment, it is a purification.
[11:25] By removing even the comfort of spiritual sweetness, the soul is invited to love without condition, to trust without proof, to surrender without reward.
[11:27] By removing even the comfort of
[11:31] spiritual sweetness, the soul is invited
[11:34] to love without condition, to trust
[11:36] without proof, to surrender without
[11:39] reward. This is why mystics saw the dark night as a stage of union, the place where the ego dies and only the divine remains.
[11:36] without reward.
[11:42] night as a stage of union, the place
[11:45] where the ego dies and only the divine
[11:46] remains.
[11:46] In Eastern traditions, the same passage is described in different language.
[11:49] In Eastern traditions, the same passage
[11:51] is described in different language. In
[11:53] Zen Buddhism, there is the great doubt.
[11:51] Zen Buddhism,
[11:55] there is the great doubt.
[11:55] This is not a small question, like whether your job is the right fit or whether your choices were wise.
[11:58] This is not a small question,
[12:01] like whether your job is the right fit
[12:05] or whether your choices were wise. It is an all-consuming doubt, a collapse of all the structures the mind has built.
[12:05] It is
[12:08] an all-consuming doubt,
[12:10] a collapse of all the structures the
[12:12] mind has built.
[12:12] Who am I? What is this life? What is real?
[12:15] Who am I? What is this life?
[12:18] What is real?
[12:18] These questions are not answered by logic.
[12:21] These questions are not answered by
[12:23] logic.
[12:26] They burn away the illusions that cover the mind.
[12:28] The doubt is painful, but it is also sacred because it clears the ground for awakening.
[12:35] Hinduism speaks of vairagya, the cultivation of detachment.
[12:40] During a dark night, desires and pleasures lose their hold, not because they're bad, but because they no longer satisfy.
[12:51] Even spiritual accomplishments feel hollow.
[12:53] This detachment is the gateway to self-realization.
[13:00] Because it reveals that the ego self, with its endless wants and fears, is not who you are.
[13:10] Behind it, there is pure consciousness, vast, unchanging, and free.
[13:16] We can also see this universal pattern in the lives of great figures.
[13:19] Consider Nelson Mandela,
[13:25] Consider Nelson Mandela, who spent decades in prison.
[13:28] who spent decades in prison.
[13:31] What could have been despair became for him a crucible of transformation.
[13:35] Stripped of freedom, stripped of recognition, he found a deeper purpose, a strength that could not be taken away.
[13:46] Consider Mother Teresa, who confessed to long periods of spiritual dryness, where she felt no sense of God's presence.
[13:55] And yet she continued to serve with love.
[14:00] These examples show us that the dark night does not belong only to mystics or saints.
[14:05] It belongs to anyone who dares to face the emptiness inside and allow it to shape them.
[14:11] When we face our own dark night, it may not look as dramatic.
[14:17] It may come as a slow erosion of meaning.
[14:19] The things that once motivated you stop working.
[14:22] The people who once
[14:26] you stop working.
[14:26] The people who once felt close begin to drift away.
[14:29] felt close begin to drift away.
[14:29] Even your own thoughts feel foreign,
[14:32] Even your own thoughts feel foreign,
[14:32] like they're speaking a language you no longer understand.
[14:35] like they're speaking a language you no longer understand.
[14:37] longer understand.
[14:37] It is in these quiet moments of loss that the passage begins.
[14:40] It is in these quiet moments of loss that the passage begins.
[14:40] If you resist, if you try to cling, the suffering grows stronger.
[14:45] that the passage begins.
[14:45] If you resist, if you try to cling, the suffering grows stronger.
[14:47] if you try to cling, the suffering grows stronger.
[14:47] If you soften, if you stay present, you begin to notice that even in the emptiness something remains.
[14:49] the suffering grows stronger.
[14:49] If you soften, if you stay present, you begin to notice that even in the emptiness something remains.
[14:51] If you soften,
[14:51] if you stay present, you begin to notice that even in the emptiness something remains.
[14:54] if you stay present, you begin to notice that even in the emptiness something remains.
[14:54] There is a presence, silent, vast, untouched by despair.
[14:57] that even in the emptiness something remains.
[14:57] There is a presence, silent, vast, untouched by despair.
[15:00] remains.
[15:00] There is a presence, silent, vast, untouched by despair.
[15:03] silent, vast, untouched by despair.
[15:03] This presence is what all traditions point toward.
[15:07] untouched by despair.
[15:07] This presence is what all traditions point toward.
[15:10] what all traditions point toward.
[15:10] It has many names: God, the self, your awareness, the Tao, but the reality is the same.
[15:13] It has many names: God, the self, your awareness, the Tao, but the reality is the same.
[15:16] your awareness, the Tao, but the reality is the same.
[15:16] It cannot be lost because it is not dependent on circumstances, it cannot die because it was never born.
[15:18] is the same.
[15:18] It cannot be lost because it is not dependent on circumstances, it cannot die because it was never born.
[15:20] It cannot be lost because it is not dependent on circumstances, it cannot die because it was never born.
[15:22] because it is not dependent on circumstances, it cannot die because it was never born.
[15:25] circumstances, it cannot die because it was never born.
[15:25] The dark
[15:28] because it was never born.
[15:31] The dark night reveals this night reveals this by removing everything else.
[15:33] When all that is false is gone only the true remains.
[15:38] So, how do we walk through this passage without losing heart?
[15:46] The answer is practice.
[15:46] In the West, prayer becomes less about asking and more about resting.
[15:51] In the East, meditation becomes the mirror in which all illusions dissolve.
[15:58] Insight meditation teaches us to observe sensations and thoughts as passing clouds.
[16:06] Never permanent, never solid.
[16:08] Zen practice teaches us to sit in stillness, simply watching the mind without judgment.
[16:17] Loving-kindness practice softens the heart, reminding us to bring compassion to ourselves even when we feel abandoned.
[16:26] Mantras anchor the mind when chaos feels
[16:29] anchor the mind when chaos feels overwhelming.
[16:32] Breath practices regulate the nervous system, calming the storms of fear.
[16:36] These practices do not eliminate the dark night.
[16:40] They give us tools to endure it, to see it not as punishment but as passage.
[16:48] They teach us to sit in the fire without being consumed.
[16:52] Over time, what once felt unbearable begins to shift.
[16:59] The darkness does not vanish all at once, but little by little you begin to see glimmers of light.
[17:07] A moment of peace in meditation, a breath that feels steady, a smile that arises unexpectedly.
[17:18] These are signs that the is opening.
[17:22] That the night is softening into dawn.
[17:25] It is important to understand that this journey does not move in a straight line.
[17:27] You may feel moments of light
[17:31] line. You may feel moments of light followed by deeper darkness.
[17:34] You may feel awakened one day and lost the next.
[17:38] This is natural.
[17:40] The dark night comes in cycles like waves that rise and fall.
[17:47] Each time it invites you to surrender more deeply, to trust more fully, to rest more completely in the presence that never leaves.
[17:57] The key is to remember that you are not alone.
[18:00] Across cultures, across centuries, countless seekers have walked this same path.
[18:12] Their stories remind us that what feels like death is also birth.
[18:15] What feels like abandonment is also union.
[18:18] What feels like emptiness is also fullness.
[18:21] You are walking a road that leads not to despair, but to awakening.
[18:29] So, if you find yourself in the middle of your own dark night,
[18:33] of your own dark night, let these words be a reminder.
[18:36] let these words be a reminder.
[18:36] This is not the end of your journey.
[18:39] This is not the end of your journey.
[18:39] It is the beginning of a new one.
[18:41] is the beginning of a new one.
[18:41] The ground is shaking because the old self
[18:44] ground is shaking because the old self
[18:44] is being dismantled.
[18:47] is being dismantled.
[18:47] The silence feels heavy because the ego is dissolving.
[18:50] heavy because the ego is dissolving.
[18:50] What will emerge is not the small self
[18:52] What will emerge is not the small self
[18:52] you once defended, but the vast self
[18:55] you once defended, but the vast self
[18:55] that was always here waiting to be
[18:58] that was always here waiting to be
[18:58] recognized.
[19:01] recognized.
[19:01] And when you glimpse even a sliver of that vastness,
[19:04] sliver of that vastness,
[19:04] you will understand why mystics call
[19:06] you will understand why mystics call
[19:06] this passage sacred.
[19:08] this passage sacred.
[19:08] The night is long, but dawn is certain.
[19:12] The night is long, but dawn is certain.
[19:12] The tunnel is dark,
[19:14] The tunnel is dark,
[19:14] but light waits at the end.
[19:17] but light waits at the end.
[19:17] The death you fear is only the mask
[19:20] you fear is only the mask
[19:20] hiding the face of your true self.
[19:23] hiding the face of your true self.
[19:23] As we continue to explore the dark night of the soul,
[19:25] continue to explore the dark night of the soul,
[19:26] the soul,
[19:26] it becomes clear that this passage is not only about suffering,
[19:29] it becomes clear that this passage is
[19:29] not only about suffering,
[19:31] not only about suffering,
[19:31] it is also about transformation.
[19:34] it is also about transformation.
[19:34] Suffering is the doorway, yes,
[19:37] Suffering is the doorway, yes, but the purpose is awakening.
[19:39] but the purpose is awakening.
[19:39] What feels like loss in the beginning
[19:41] What feels like loss in the beginning slowly reveals itself as a gift.
[19:45] slowly reveals itself as a gift.
[19:45] What feels like collapse
[19:48] feels like collapse slowly shows itself
[19:50] slowly shows itself as the clearing of space for something
[19:53] as the clearing of space for something larger to enter.
[19:53] To understand this, we must look closely at how the process
[19:57] we must look closely at how the process of the dark night reshapes us from the
[20:00] of the dark night reshapes us from the inside out.
[20:04] inside out.
[20:04] When the ego breaks down, the mind begins to see its own illusions.
[20:06] When the ego breaks down, the mind
[20:08] begins to see its own illusions.
[20:08] All the roles, all the stories,
[20:12] roles, all the stories, all the attachments that seemed so solid
[20:15] all the attachments that seemed so solid now appear as fragile constructions.
[20:19] now appear as fragile constructions.
[20:19] At first,
[20:22] first, this realization feels like despair
[20:23] this realization feels like despair because the foundation you once trusted
[20:27] because the foundation you once trusted is gone.
[20:29] is gone.
[20:29] But over time, you begin to see that what is gone was
[20:32] But over time,
[20:35] you begin to see that what is gone was never real to begin with.
[20:37] never real to begin with. You see that the identity you defended
[20:40] You see that the identity you defended so fiercely was built on shifting sand.
[20:44] so fiercely was built on shifting sand. The dark night strips away the false
[20:47] The dark night strips away the false so that the true can stand clear.
[20:51] so that the true can stand clear. The transformation begins with humility.
[20:54] The transformation begins with humility. When you realize how small you are in
[20:57] When you realize how small you are in the vast ocean of existence,
[20:59] the vast ocean of existence, pride begins to dissolve.
[21:02] pride begins to dissolve. You no longer cling to the idea of being
[21:05] You no longer cling to the idea of being irreplaceable.
[21:07] irreplaceable. You no longer demand that the world
[21:09] You no longer demand that the world revolve around your story. Instead, you
[21:12] revolve around your story. Instead, you recognize that life is larger than you.
[21:15] recognize that life is larger than you. That the flow of existence continues
[21:18] That the flow of existence continues whether you rise or fall.
[21:20] whether you rise or fall. This realization can be frightening.
[21:23] This realization can be frightening. But it can also be freeing. Humility is
[21:26] But it can also be freeing. Humility is not weakness. It is spaciousness. It
[21:30] not weakness. It is spaciousness. It opens you to see life as it truly is
[21:33] opens you to see life as it truly is without the distortion of ego.
[21:36] without the distortion of ego. Then comes compassion.
[21:39] Then comes compassion. When your own suffering has stripped you
[21:41] When your own suffering has stripped you bare,
[21:42] bare, you begin to see the suffering of others
[21:44] you begin to see the suffering of others more clearly. You know what it feels
[21:46] more clearly. You know what it feels like to be lost,
[21:48] like to be lost, to be confused,
[21:50] to be confused, to doubt everything.
[21:52] to doubt everything. From this knowing,
[21:54] From this knowing, a tenderness arises.
[21:56] a tenderness arises. You do not need to force it. It flows
[22:00] You do not need to force it. It flows naturally.
[22:02] naturally. Because your heart has been broken open,
[22:05] Because your heart has been broken open, compassion becomes the quiet strength
[22:07] compassion becomes the quiet strength that holds you.
[22:10] that holds you. And it also becomes the bridge that
[22:12] And it also becomes the bridge that connects you to others. You realize that
[22:15] connects you to others. You realize that the dark night is not only yours.
[22:19] the dark night is not only yours. It is a universal passage.
[22:22] It is a universal passage. And in that realization, you feel less
[22:25] And in that realization, you feel less alone. Another fruit of this
[22:27] alone. Another fruit of this transformation is acceptance.
[22:31] transformation is acceptance. In the beginning, you resisted the
[22:34] In the beginning, you resisted the darkness.
[22:35] darkness. You fought against it, begged it to
[22:37] You fought against it, begged it to leave, demanded that things return to
[22:40] leave, demanded that things return to normal. But slowly,
[22:43] normal. But slowly, you learn that resistance only deepens
[22:47] you learn that resistance only deepens the suffering. The night softens when
[22:50] the suffering. The night softens when you stop fighting it.
[22:52] you stop fighting it. Acceptance is not resignation.
[22:55] Acceptance is not resignation. It is openness.
[22:57] It is openness. It is the willingness to be with what is
[23:01] It is the willingness to be with what is without demanding that it be different.
[23:04] without demanding that it be different. This acceptance brings peace
[23:07] This acceptance brings peace even in the middle of struggle. You
[23:09] even in the middle of struggle. You begin to discover that peace is not the
[23:12] begin to discover that peace is not the absence of difficulty
[23:14] absence of difficulty but the presence of awareness within it.
[23:17] but the presence of awareness within it. Awareness itself
[23:19] Awareness itself becomes your anchor.
[23:21] becomes your anchor. When everything else collapses
[23:24] When everything else collapses awareness
[23:26] awareness remains. This is perhaps the most
[23:28] remains. This is perhaps the most important discovery of the dark night.
[23:31] important discovery of the dark night. You are not your thoughts
[23:34] You are not your thoughts because thoughts come and go.
[23:36] because thoughts come and go. You are not your emotions
[23:38] You are not your emotions because emotions rise and fall like
[23:41] because emotions rise and fall like waves.
[23:43] waves. You are not even your body
[23:45] You are not even your body because the body changes and eventually
[23:48] because the body changes and eventually fades. You are the awareness that sees
[23:51] fades. You are the awareness that sees all of this. You are the open sky in
[23:54] all of this. You are the open sky in which clouds form
[23:56] which clouds form and dissolve.
[23:58] and dissolve. This recognition is the seed of
[24:00] This recognition is the seed of awakening.
[24:02] awakening. It shows you that your true self was
[24:05] It shows you that your true self was never threatened
[24:06] never threatened never broken
[24:08] never broken never lost. As awareness deepens
[24:12] never lost. As awareness deepens joy begins to return.
[24:15] joy begins to return. But this joy is different from ordinary
[24:18] But this joy is different from ordinary happiness.
[24:19] happiness. It is not a fleeting excitement
[24:23] It is not a fleeting excitement not a pleasure
[24:25] not a pleasure that depends on circumstances.
[24:28] that depends on circumstances. It is a quiet joy steady and unshakable
[24:33] It is a quiet joy steady and unshakable like a flame that cannot be blown out by
[24:35] like a flame that cannot be blown out by the winds of change.
[24:37] the winds of change. This joy is born from knowing
[24:40] This joy is born from knowing who you are beyond the ego. It is the
[24:44] who you are beyond the ego. It is the joy of being itself.
[24:47] joy of being itself. The joy of resting in the infinite
[24:50] The joy of resting in the infinite ground of existence. The transformation
[24:53] ground of existence. The transformation also awakens creativity.
[24:56] also awakens creativity. When the ego dissolves,
[24:59] When the ego dissolves, imagination is no longer bound by fear
[25:02] imagination is no longer bound by fear or by the need to prove something.
[25:04] or by the need to prove something. A new flow of ideas, insights, and
[25:07] A new flow of ideas, insights, and inspiration emerges. You begin to see
[25:10] inspiration emerges. You begin to see life with fresh eyes,
[25:13] life with fresh eyes, as if the world has been washed clean.
[25:17] as if the world has been washed clean. This creativity is not limited to art or
[25:19] This creativity is not limited to art or music.
[25:21] music. It shows up in the way you live,
[25:24] It shows up in the way you live, the way you love,
[25:26] the way you love, the way you serve others. It becomes a
[25:28] the way you serve others. It becomes a natural expression of the freedom you
[25:31] natural expression of the freedom you have found.
[25:33] have found. Intuition also grows stronger. Without
[25:35] Intuition also grows stronger. Without the noise of ego,
[25:37] the noise of ego, the inner voice becomes clearer.
[25:40] the inner voice becomes clearer. You sense the right step,
[25:42] You sense the right step, not because logic has calculated it, but
[25:46] not because logic has calculated it, but because awareness itself guides you. You
[25:49] because awareness itself guides you. You learn to trust this intuition,
[25:52] learn to trust this intuition, to walk with it,
[25:54] to walk with it, to let it shape your choices. Life less
[25:57] to let it shape your choices. Life less about control and more about flow.
[26:00] about control and more about flow. You no longer cling to rigid plans
[26:03] You no longer cling to rigid plans because you know that the universe is
[26:05] because you know that the universe is alive,
[26:07] alive, intelligent,
[26:08] intelligent, and responsive. You begin to live in
[26:11] and responsive. You begin to live in harmony with it,
[26:13] harmony with it, rather than against it. This
[26:15] rather than against it. This transformation does not mean the
[26:18] transformation does not mean the challenges disappear.
[26:20] challenges disappear. The dark night is not something you go
[26:23] The dark night is not something you go through once and never again. It comes
[26:25] through once and never again. It comes in cycles, each time stripping away
[26:28] in cycles, each time stripping away another layer of illusion, each time
[26:31] another layer of illusion, each time deepening your awareness. But with each
[26:34] deepening your awareness. But with each cycle, you become more resilient, more
[26:38] cycle, you become more resilient, more peaceful, more free.
[26:40] peaceful, more free. You learn that the darkness is not an
[26:43] You learn that the darkness is not an enemy,
[26:45] enemy, but a teacher. You learn to bow to it,
[26:48] but a teacher. You learn to bow to it, to welcome it, to let it show you what
[26:51] to welcome it, to let it show you what you still cling to. In this way,
[26:54] you still cling to. In this way, the dark night becomes a lifelong
[26:56] the dark night becomes a lifelong companion, not a curse,
[26:59] companion, not a curse, but a guide.
[27:02] but a guide. And so,
[27:03] And so, the purpose of the dark night is
[27:05] the purpose of the dark night is revealed.
[27:07] revealed. It is not to punish you.
[27:09] It is not to punish you. It is not to destroy you. It is to
[27:12] It is not to destroy you. It is to awaken you. It is to show you the truth
[27:15] awaken you. It is to show you the truth that was hidden beneath all the noise.
[27:18] that was hidden beneath all the noise. It is to strip away what is false
[27:22] It is to strip away what is false so that what is real can shine.
[27:25] so that what is real can shine. It is to break the shell
[27:27] It is to break the shell so that the seed of your true self
[27:30] so that the seed of your true self can grow. When you understand this,
[27:33] can grow. When you understand this, the fear begins to dissolve
[27:36] the fear begins to dissolve and the night becomes less heavy. You
[27:39] and the night becomes less heavy. You see that even in the deepest darkness,
[27:42] see that even in the deepest darkness, there is light waiting to emerge. This
[27:45] there is light waiting to emerge. This is why the mystics spoke of joy at the
[27:48] is why the mystics spoke of joy at the end of the night. It is not the
[27:51] end of the night. It is not the joy of the ego
[27:53] joy of the ego getting what it wants.
[27:55] getting what it wants. It is the joy of the soul
[27:58] It is the joy of the soul recognizing its own nature.
[28:01] recognizing its own nature. It is the peace that passes
[28:03] It is the peace that passes understanding.
[28:04] understanding. It is the fulfillment that cannot be
[28:07] It is the fulfillment that cannot be taken away. And once you taste it, even
[28:10] taken away. And once you taste it, even for a moment, you know that all the
[28:13] for a moment, you know that all the suffering was worth it because it led
[28:15] suffering was worth it because it led you here to the recognition of who you
[28:18] you here to the recognition of who you truly are. As the journey through the
[28:21] truly are. As the journey through the dark night of the soul unfolds,
[28:24] dark night of the soul unfolds, one final truth
[28:27] one final truth begins to reveal itself. The darkness is
[28:30] begins to reveal itself. The darkness is not the end.
[28:31] not the end. It is the passage into a greater
[28:34] It is the passage into a greater wholeness. The very experiences that
[28:37] wholeness. The very experiences that once felt unbearable
[28:40] once felt unbearable now become the foundation for a deeper
[28:42] now become the foundation for a deeper peace,
[28:44] peace, a lasting fulfillment,
[28:46] a lasting fulfillment, and a clarity that shines through every
[28:49] and a clarity that shines through every part of your life. When you cross
[28:51] part of your life. When you cross through the tunnel,
[28:53] through the tunnel, you find that what awaits you is not a
[28:55] you find that what awaits you is not a return to the old self,
[28:58] return to the old self, but the birth of a new self
[29:00] but the birth of a new self rooted in awareness, compassion, and
[29:04] rooted in awareness, compassion, and freedom. This resolution is not a sudden
[29:07] freedom. This resolution is not a sudden explosion of happiness. It does not
[29:10] explosion of happiness. It does not arrive as fireworks or dramatic visions.
[29:14] arrive as fireworks or dramatic visions. It arrives quietly,
[29:16] It arrives quietly, like a sunrise breaking through the
[29:18] like a sunrise breaking through the horizon.
[29:19] horizon. The joy that emerges is steady,
[29:23] The joy that emerges is steady, calm, and profound. It is not the joy of
[29:26] calm, and profound. It is not the joy of getting what you want
[29:28] getting what you want or of life going according to plan. It
[29:31] or of life going according to plan. It is the joy of realizing that you are
[29:34] is the joy of realizing that you are free from the need to cling. It is the
[29:38] free from the need to cling. It is the joy of resting in awareness itself,
[29:42] joy of resting in awareness itself, which cannot be lost,
[29:44] which cannot be lost, which cannot be destroyed,
[29:47] which cannot be destroyed, which has been present through every
[29:49] which has been present through every moment of your life.
[29:52] moment of your life. What does this look like in daily life?
[29:54] What does this look like in daily life? It looks like a new relationship to pain
[29:57] It looks like a new relationship to pain and pleasure.
[29:58] and pleasure. You no longer chase one and run from the
[30:01] You no longer chase one and run from the other.
[30:02] other. You see both as passing waves,
[30:05] You see both as passing waves, temporary movements in the ocean of
[30:07] temporary movements in the ocean of awareness. It looks like a new
[30:09] awareness. It looks like a new relationship to success and failure. You
[30:12] relationship to success and failure. You no longer measure your worth by outcomes
[30:15] no longer measure your worth by outcomes because you know your essence is beyond
[30:18] because you know your essence is beyond all outcomes.
[30:20] all outcomes. It looks like a new relationship to
[30:22] It looks like a new relationship to others. You see their struggles as
[30:24] others. You see their struggles as reflections of your own,
[30:27] reflections of your own, and compassion flows naturally. You are
[30:31] and compassion flows naturally. You are no longer trapped in the small self that
[30:33] no longer trapped in the small self that demands recognition.
[30:35] demands recognition. You are resting in the larger self that
[30:37] You are resting in the larger self that is one with all.
[30:39] is one with all. The The were right when they said the
[30:41] The The were right when they said the dark night is a purification. What is
[30:44] dark night is a purification. What is left after the fire is not ashes, but
[30:47] left after the fire is not ashes, but gold. The ego's illusions are burned
[30:50] gold. The ego's illusions are burned away
[30:51] away and the essence that remains is pure,
[30:53] and the essence that remains is pure, unshakeable, timeless.
[30:56] unshakeable, timeless. In Christianity,
[30:58] In Christianity, this is called union with God.
[31:00] this is called union with God. In Buddhism, it is called enlightenment.
[31:03] In Buddhism, it is called enlightenment. In Hinduism,
[31:05] In Hinduism, it is called self-realization.
[31:07] it is called self-realization. Different words,
[31:09] Different words, different metaphors,
[31:11] different metaphors, but the reality is the same. It is the
[31:15] but the reality is the same. It is the awakening to your true nature.
[31:18] awakening to your true nature. The recognition that you are not
[31:20] The recognition that you are not separate,
[31:21] separate, that you are not bound,
[31:23] that you are not bound, that you are the infinite awareness in
[31:25] that you are the infinite awareness in which all things rise and fall. One of
[31:28] which all things rise and fall. One of the most important qualities of this
[31:31] the most important qualities of this awakening is compassion.
[31:34] awakening is compassion. Having walked through the dark night
[31:36] Having walked through the dark night yourself,
[31:38] yourself, you no longer judge those who suffer.
[31:41] you no longer judge those who suffer. You know their pain
[31:42] You know their pain because you have lived it. You know the
[31:44] because you have lived it. You know the weight of despair,
[31:47] weight of despair, the confusion of doubt,
[31:49] the confusion of doubt, the silence of feeling abandoned, and
[31:52] the silence of feeling abandoned, and because you know,
[31:54] because you know, your heart opens.
[31:56] your heart opens. You meet others
[31:58] You meet others with kindness,
[31:59] with kindness, with patience, with love. You see that
[32:02] with patience, with love. You see that helping them is not separate from
[32:05] helping them is not separate from helping yourself
[32:07] helping yourself because at the deepest level, there is
[32:10] because at the deepest level, there is no separation. Another quality that
[32:13] no separation. Another quality that arises is creativity.
[32:16] arises is creativity. Once the mind is no longer bound by
[32:19] Once the mind is no longer bound by fear,
[32:21] fear, once it is freed from the need to
[32:23] once it is freed from the need to control,
[32:24] control, imagination blossoms. You feel inspired
[32:29] imagination blossoms. You feel inspired not to prove yourself,
[32:31] not to prove yourself, but to express the flow of life moving
[32:34] but to express the flow of life moving through you. This creativity can um,
[32:38] through you. This creativity can um, show itself in art and writing and
[32:41] show itself in art and writing and music. Uh, but it can also show itself
[32:45] music. Uh, but it can also show itself in the way you listen, the way you
[32:47] in the way you listen, the way you speak, the way you move through each
[32:49] speak, the way you move through each day.
[32:50] day. Everything becomes an expression of the
[32:52] Everything becomes an expression of the freedom you have discovered. Peace
[32:54] freedom you have discovered. Peace becomes your constant companion.
[32:58] becomes your constant companion. This peace is not dependent on silence
[33:00] This peace is not dependent on silence in the outer world.
[33:02] in the outer world. You may still live in noise and chaos
[33:05] You may still live in noise and chaos and challenge.
[33:06] and challenge. But inside
[33:08] But inside there is a stillness that does not move.
[33:11] there is a stillness that does not move. It is the eye of the storm, the quiet
[33:14] It is the eye of the storm, the quiet center that holds you steady no matter
[33:17] center that holds you steady no matter what happens.
[33:18] what happens. This peace is not fragile. It cannot be
[33:22] This peace is not fragile. It cannot be broken. It remains even when life feels
[33:25] broken. It remains even when life feels uncertain,
[33:27] uncertain, even when losses come,
[33:29] even when losses come, even when change is unavoidable. It is
[33:33] even when change is unavoidable. It is the peace that passes understanding.
[33:36] the peace that passes understanding. And once you know it, you can never lose
[33:39] And once you know it, you can never lose it.
[33:40] it. And then there is fulfillment. The dark
[33:43] And then there is fulfillment. The dark night strips away the search for meaning
[33:46] night strips away the search for meaning outside of yourself. It shows you that
[33:49] outside of yourself. It shows you that no achievement,
[33:51] no achievement, no recognition, no possession can ever
[33:55] no recognition, no possession can ever satisfy the hunger of the ego.
[33:58] satisfy the hunger of the ego. The only true fulfillment comes from
[34:01] The only true fulfillment comes from recognizing what you already are. Here
[34:05] recognizing what you already are. Here and now. This recognition
[34:08] and now. This recognition brings a wholeness, a completion,
[34:12] brings a wholeness, a completion, a sense that nothing is missing.
[34:16] a sense that nothing is missing. You no longer live in the endless cycle
[34:18] You no longer live in the endless cycle of wanting. You live in the freedom of
[34:21] of wanting. You live in the freedom of being. It is important to remember
[34:25] being. It is important to remember this resolution is not the end of your
[34:28] this resolution is not the end of your journey. It is the beginning of a new
[34:30] journey. It is the beginning of a new way of living.
[34:32] way of living. The cycles of challenge may still come.
[34:36] The cycles of challenge may still come. The ego may still rise with its demands.
[34:39] The ego may still rise with its demands. But now you know the truth.
[34:42] But now you know the truth. You know that you are not the ego. You
[34:45] You know that you are not the ego. You know that you are the awareness that
[34:47] know that you are the awareness that holds it all. And this knowing changes
[34:50] holds it all. And this knowing changes everything.
[34:51] everything. It gives you resilience in hardship,
[34:53] It gives you resilience in hardship, humility in success,
[34:56] humility in success, and compassion in every encounter.
[34:59] and compassion in every encounter. So, what is the light at the end of the
[35:01] So, what is the light at the end of the tunnel? It is not something outside of
[35:04] tunnel? It is not something outside of you.
[35:05] you. It is not a prize waiting to be won. It
[35:08] It is not a prize waiting to be won. It is the light of your own being
[35:11] is the light of your own being shining when all illusions have fallen
[35:13] shining when all illusions have fallen away.
[35:15] away. It is the recognition that you are
[35:16] It is the recognition that you are timeless,
[35:18] timeless, that you are infinite,
[35:20] that you are infinite, that you are the groundless ground of
[35:23] that you are the groundless ground of all existence. This light has always
[35:25] all existence. This light has always been here. The dark night did not create
[35:29] been here. The dark night did not create it.
[35:30] it. The dark night only cleared the way for
[35:33] The dark night only cleared the way for you to see it.
[35:35] you to see it. In the end you realize that the dark
[35:37] In the end you realize that the dark night was not your enemy.
[35:40] night was not your enemy. It was your teacher. It stripped you of
[35:43] It was your teacher. It stripped you of what was false
[35:45] what was false so that you could see what is true. It
[35:48] so that you could see what is true. It humbled you
[35:50] humbled you so that you could open to the vastness.
[35:53] so that you could open to the vastness. It broke you
[35:55] It broke you so that compassion could flow. And it
[35:57] so that compassion could flow. And it showed you that beyond every identity,
[36:00] showed you that beyond every identity, beyond every story,
[36:03] beyond every story, beyond every fear, you are pure
[36:05] beyond every fear, you are pure awareness, eternal and free. This is the
[36:09] awareness, eternal and free. This is the resolution. This is the gift waiting on
[36:12] resolution. This is the gift waiting on the other side.
[36:14] the other side. And once you see it, once you taste it,
[36:17] And once you see it, once you taste it, no darkness can ever frighten you in the
[36:19] no darkness can ever frighten you in the same way again because you know the
[36:22] same way again because you know the truth. You know that you are the light
[36:25] truth. You know that you are the light itself. If this journey through the dark
[36:28] itself. If this journey through the dark night of the soul has spoken to you,
[36:30] night of the soul has spoken to you, if even one sentence touched your heart,
[36:34] if even one sentence touched your heart, I invite you to stay connected. Share

[36:59] peace in everyday life. And if you know someone who is struggling,
