[00:04] I think many of you are aware
[00:06] of the feeling of the unknown and excitement,
[00:09] before travelling to a country you've never been to,
[00:12] but one that always attracted you.
[00:14] Given that it is also the most remote country
[00:16] I've ever set off to,
[00:18] my feelings before travelling to New Zealand
[00:20] will become quite transparent to you.
[00:37] New Zealand
[00:39] Big Episode
[01:06] Few words on hotels first.
[01:10] The way I chose to explore this country, also happens to be my favourite!
[01:15] It implies no plans and no goals, and I just have places in mind that I want to see.
[01:20] There will be no preliminary bookings and this is where Hotels part of Aviasales app comes in handy!
[01:27] I believe you are familiar with it already!
[01:30] It's biggest advantage is that it searches all offers across the web, including travel agents.
[01:36] Basically you search in one place, and then go for the best offer, whilst variety of built in filters, will make your search super convenient.
[01:45] Tonight, I plan to stay in a place called Gisborne, ...let's go for something reasonably priced...
[01:54] I think it'll be this one...
[01:59] Let's book it!
[02:00] Simple as that, guys!
[02:07] About time I introduce you to my team...
[02:16] Meet Mazda 2,
[02:18] known to government as HRR27,
[02:23] it has already done 105'000 miles.
[02:27] This car has seen it all!
[02:32] New Zealand comprises two pretty substantial islands,
[02:35] nothern and southern.
[02:38] My job is to visit both of them,
[02:39] from beginning to their end.
[02:41] ...Yep, there is a ferry between them.
[02:44] Only problem...
[02:45] is that I only have 8 days,
[02:48] and whether I'll manage to see and film everything,
[02:51] along this 2000km road trip and 8 days,
[02:55] is a massive question!
[02:57] But, as always,
[02:58] life is boring without issues.
[03:01] - Alright darlings, let's cut to the chase shall we?
[03:04] - New Zealand is next level, it's ecstatic
[03:08] and is better than anything you've seen before.
[03:11] Wait a seeeeecond....
[03:13] Who is this random girl doing the voice over?
[03:15] I am not random, Specs!
[03:17] But a featured star of the show!
[03:18] Ok superstar, thanks!
[03:20] It is my turn now!
[03:32] Alright my darlings...
[03:33] Oops, wrong script...
[03:36] Munchkins,
[03:37] for the next week and a half,
[03:39] you will join me doing something I absolutely love,
[03:42] a road trip across the whole country,
[03:44] filming everything we deem fit.
[03:46] A third of New Zealand is dedicated to National Parks,
[03:49] and that can only mean
[03:50] that this place must be drop dead stunning!
[03:53] Oh, and there are no snakes here either,
[03:55] hello Australia.
[03:59] Secondly, it is the last land that was ever populated,
[04:03] which happened only 1000 years ago
[04:05] and means that most of the country still remains untouched.
[04:09] You can basically become part of the wild nature.
[04:12] that has hardly suffered from humanity.
[04:17] which is incredibly rare nowadays.
[04:20] Just before we indulge in WOWs and OHs.
[04:23] let's go over the possible difficulties you may encouter.
[04:26] when planning your first visit to New Zealand.
[04:31] First, is the location.
[04:32] as New Zealand is god knows where.
[04:35] and if you look at the map.
[04:37] you'll find NZ right at the edge of it!
[04:40] To get you acquainted with how far it is.
[04:42] until recent time.
[04:44] the longest direct flight in the world.
[04:46] was between Doha in Qatar.
[04:48] to Auckland in New Zealand.
[04:51] amounting to 14000km and nearly 18 hours of flight!
[04:55] Quite ridiculous if you ask me!
[04:58] Another issue apart from the flight costs.
[05:03] is an unbearable jetlag!
[05:06] The time difference between Kiev and NZ is 11 hours.
[05:10] making it near impossible to get prepared for it!
[05:14] Hawaii is worse though,
[05:15] with a 12 hour time difference.
[05:17] Hence, I am literally dying right now!
[05:19] You might have noticed,
[05:21] is that this is a left hand drive country,
[05:24] which may steer you off from renting a car,
[05:29] but to be frank, it is nothing critical!
[05:32] All in all, you need 20/30 mins to get used to it,
[05:37] then you just stop noticing,
[05:39] that you are driving on the wrong side of the road.
[05:42] Since the debrief is done,
[05:43] let's shift to the beauty of this land.
[05:45] Cows...
[05:47] More cows...
[05:49] Corn...
[05:51] Lot's of corn...
[05:52] and that's about it for now.
[05:54] Yep, you are not blinded by the beauty after leaving Auckland,
[05:58] and the scenery seems to be pretty standard.
[06:00] Places like Iceland for example,
[06:03] are next level beautiful from the get go.
[06:05] You don't even have to go anywhere.
[06:07] Here on the other hand,
[06:10] the sights are quite common to us,
[06:12] with typical roads and towns...
[06:14] It's clean and tidy, but nothing that can wow you to the bottom of your soul.
[06:20] I shall wait then!
[06:23] As we drive into the country, let's see what makes NZ popular.
[06:26] First, it's kiwi, and you are gazing over a plantation of it.
[06:30] This name though, is also shared with the national symbol of NZ, the Kiwi bird, or birdie to be more precise.
[06:38] NZ is also home to vineyards, but it is only later on the Southern Island, that we will touch on the local wine.
[06:46] New Zealand is an extremely green country, both directly and indirectly.
[06:51] Locals strive for the country to be recognised as the greenest country in the world, whilst local cattle should really be called grand cattle, munching grass on elite fields.
[07:02] Deers are bred here in absolutely enormous herds, herds of such scale, that they would put Chukotka's herders to shame any day of the week.
[07:15] Alternative energy is also thriving,
[07:17] since New Zealand became the first country in the world,
[07:20] to levy the carbon tax.
[07:22] Locals are absolutely fixed
[07:24] on keeping their country in its original pristine state,
[07:27] and NZ is the first coutnry
[07:29] at a border of which I was asked if I carry a tent,
[07:32] that was recently set up in another country.
[07:35] The rubbish and its recycling situation is also on point!
[07:37] Tissues are from recycled material,
[07:39] you get free coffee if you bring your cup,
[07:42] whilst grocery bags come in paper and fabric variants.
[07:45] ...and people do use them!
[07:47] There are plastic bags too,
[07:49] but they are all labelled as multi use.
[07:52] This whole movement made me want to be a part of it,
[07:55] so I also went and bought a local bag)
[07:58] Grocery shops are packed with organic fruits and veg,
[08:01] including potatoes, blueberries,
[08:03] pears and of course, the organic chicken.
[08:06] To summarise it all,
[08:07] NZ makes an impression of a very eco friendly country.
[08:11] Still let's not deviate from the main pillar,
[08:13] that we know this country for...
[08:15] One very well known movie!
[08:21] Of course it is Lord of the Rings!
[08:23] This is what we know New Zealand for!
[08:26] The film became a true pillar of this country,
[08:29] and nearly every shop sells a guidebook
[08:31] that can take you to most scenes from the film.
[08:34] In total, the trilogy brought around $200 million to the country,
[08:38] whilst government set out a department,
[08:40] responsible for seeking out ways
[08:41] to profit even more from the film.
[08:44] At the same time the treasury,
[08:46] issued $1 coins with a picture of the ring.
[08:50] The central location tied to a film,
[08:52] is the Hobbiton.
[08:53] A real film set, located 2 hours away from Auckland,
[08:56] naturally became my first destination.
[08:59] It's a place that will make film fans scream with joy,
[09:02] as it is packed to the brink with the film props.
[09:05] What's interesting,
[09:06] is that Hobbiton is an operating farm with tractors and cows,
[09:10] and tourists get transported on specialised buses.
[09:14] The landscape on the other hand is pretty standard,
[09:17] and reminds of a slightly altered Toscana.
[09:19] It was by pure coincidence that this film set was found,
[09:22] as the producers happened to fly over over it in a helicopter,
[09:26] landed for a chat with the owner,
[09:28] and the rest is history.
[09:29] The beauty of this place,
[09:31] is that right from the beginning of your bus trip,
[09:34] you are greeted by Peter Jackson,
[09:36] the producer of the trilogy and 3 times Oscar award winner.
[09:40] Oh and the side steps are everywhere here,
[09:42] since this is hobbits' land.
[09:44] Welcome to Hobbiton,
[09:46] a place with a crazy cool atmosphere
[09:48] and home for 44 hobbit' houses.
[09:55] Here, butterflies flitter near the apple trees,
[09:57] ducks stroll around minding their business,
[10:00] and just 5 minutes later,
[10:02] you find yourself so soaked into the atmosphere,
[10:04] that you start expecting Frodo to appear from one of these houses.
[10:07] It is thanks to Peter Jackson and his attention to detail
[10:10] that you feel such strong feeling of presence.
[10:15] Hobbit' classifieds,
[10:17] like a wheelbarrow for sale add even more to the magic of presence!
[10:21] To be honest with you,
[10:23] I doubt all these details were visible in the films,
[10:26] but it is this attention to details that makes it clear
[10:29] why this film received 17 Oscars.
[10:32] I have to show you this place with people in the frame,
[10:35] as otherwise it is impossible to understand the scale.
[10:38] Everything is so tiny,
[10:39] that even a chess board is absolutely microscopic!
[10:42] Well, it is all down to perspective!
[10:45] This may seem as an average house,
[10:46] but as soon as you have something to compare it to,
[10:48] it all becomes much more interesting.
[10:58] Absolutely everything is miniature...
[11:01] Watering pots and benches of course!
[11:13] The extent to which production team took it,
[11:15] goes far beyond any rules of common sense.
[11:18] For example they needed a lush tree for a scene,
[11:21] and ended up recreating one.
[11:24] Just take a guess which one it is...
[11:28] This one!
[11:30] Yep...
[11:31] It is an artificial tree with 200'000 leaves,
[11:35] that were made, painted and attached by hand!
[11:39] Incredible isn't it?!
[11:41] I would have never taken it for artificial from afar.
[11:43] ...only if I were to look closer.
[11:45] There is also a hobbit pub where you get treated to free ale.
[11:48] ...both alcoholic and non alcoholic.
[11:50] Peter Jackson used to brew his own beer here,
[11:54] but made it light,
[11:55] so the extras would drink,
[11:57] but retain productivity during working hours.
[12:00] Great way of keeping people on the set for 12 hours!
[12:03] Peter Jackson is a smart guy, I tell you!
[12:08] To summarise, it's been long time
[12:10] since I enjoyed an excursion this much!
[12:11] Hobbiton is an amazing place and I truly envy you
[12:15] if you haven't watched the trilogy yet.
[12:17] Don't miss out, as it is stellar film!
[12:19] We are now somewhere here...
[12:21] on the Northern Island...
[12:22] Logical thing to do would be to head South, towards the ferry, but I will instead do a 450km detour towards Gisborne, located in the most Eastern part on New Zealand.
[12:32] Later, you will see why, but for now let's drive and explore!
[12:52] I've been told many times prior to this trip, that NZ boasts the most diverse nature that can ever be found on this planet...
[12:59] Well, first top marks definitely go to ocean and beaches, as they are truly top notch!
[13:10] ...surfing too!
[13:23] Still, the best thing about it is the realisation of how far away my backpack and I are from home!
[13:31] I still can't believe that I am in New Zealand!
[13:34] Jeeeesus!
[13:43] It's 6.47am, sunrise is expected to be in 10 minutes and I think it's time to tell you the purpose of coming here.
[13:50] Gisbourne is the most Western beachfront of NZ, and there is nothing outstandaing about it, apart form one single thing...
[14:00] It's locals are the first people in the world who see the sunrise every morning!
[14:05] This gives me goosebumps!
[14:07] Gisbourne is located on 178 meridian, whilst the imaginary line from which every day is counted, can be found on the 180th meridian, which is 400km away from here.
[14:20] To be super precise, Samoa population is even closer to that meridian,
[14:25] but since earth is not flat,
[14:27] Gisbourne is the first place which the sun rays reach,
[14:31] and today I'll be one of the first people on earth
[14:34] who will see the sunrise!
[14:36] at least I am hoping to be the first!
[14:38] Isn't this outstanding?)))
[14:40] Outstanding is the fact,
[14:42] that I pointed my camera in the wrong direction,
[14:44] and sunrise is actually hidden behind the hills.
[14:47] Still, nothing can stop us now!
[14:57] First person in the wold to see sunrise - TICK
[15:01] Trust me guys,
[15:02] I am not a fan of exaggeration but for this moment alone
[15:05] I have travelled extensively far,
[15:07] so even if there is someone
[15:09] who saw the sunrise earlier on that day,
[15:11] I simply don't want to know of it!
[15:13] This is why I declare myself to be the first human
[15:16] that saw the sunrise on the 5th of March 2019.
[15:19] Great feeling, this!
[15:31] There are many beautiful places on earth,
[15:33] some are accessible by car and some aren't,
[15:36] and NZ earns another point here,
[15:39] as be it the mountain passes or the ocean drives,
[15:42] the roads are absolutely excellent.
[15:44] You just enjoy every second of your drive!
[15:48] Here is an interesting lifehack...
[15:50] I bet many of you
[15:52] seek out free wifi hotspots during your travels,
[15:55] and I bet so because I am the same.
[15:58] But I am also confident that none of you know,
[16:01] that quarter of all free wifi spots in the world
[16:04] aren't protected nor encrypted!
[16:08] This means that when you connect to such wifi,
[16:11] someone can simply access all your personal data.
[16:15] I am sure you are now thinking
[16:17] that this is something that doesn't concern you,
[16:20] but here are the stats...
[16:22] There were over $1.5 trillion stolen by cyber hackers in 2018!
[16:26] A solid solution to this is to protect your data,
[16:29] and you can join me and 650 million other users,
[16:32] who use a VPN app called HotSpot Shield.
[16:36] It masks my IP address and encrypts data,
[16:39] making access to it literally impossible!
[16:43] The app doesn't store any user data,
[16:45] hence you will be surrounded by complete privacy.
[16:48] You can get the app via the link below,
[16:50] and go about your browsing,
[16:52] fully protected and wherever you are!
[16:56] Even here, in New Zealand!)
[16:58] Despite the obvious differences between the two,
[17:01] you will see me compare New Zealand to Iceland a lot,
[17:04] as there are many similarities also!
[17:07] First, are the volcanoes!
[17:08] ...and to show you the first signs of it,
[17:11] we find ourselves in a place called Tehokowhitu-a-tu.
[17:14] Yep, locals love sophisticated names...
[17:17] How about this one?
[17:20] The bottom one is totally unreadable to me...
[17:22] NZ is home to the longest toponym in the world.
[17:26] The name of this hill consists of 92 letters,
[17:29] it's not a joke,
[17:30] and just in case your eyes are already broken,
[17:33] let me help you out!
[17:35] Here is the word we'll try to pronounce...
[17:38] Think of it as a NZ karaoke...
[17:41] Taumatawhakatangi
[17:43] Taumatawhakatangi hangakoauauotamatea
[17:46] Taumatawhakatangi hangakoauauotamatea turipukakapikimaunga
[17:49] Taumatawhakatangi hangakoauauotamatea turipukakapikimaunga horonukupokaiwhenu
[17:52] Taumatawhakatangi hangakoauauotamatea turipukakapikimaunga horonukupokaiwhenu akitanatahu!
[17:53] ...simple as that guys!
[17:55] Just in case you managed to pronounce it,
[17:57] you must be half Maori already, the NZ native!
[18:00] All there is left to do,
[18:02] is to ink up on traditional tattoos,
[18:06] put on the right attire,
[18:07] and learn Haka, the traditional NZ dance.
[18:11] ..which is not complicated,
[18:12] as all you have to do is stick your tongue out,
[18:15] stare with your eyes wide open and make faces.
[18:22] Let's get back to geo-thermal stuff for now...
[18:25] New Zealand boasts both hot springs and geysers.
[18:30] Geyser eruptions though,
[18:32] are not as frequent as the Icelandic ones,
[18:36] typically erupting 16-20 times a day.
[18:39] This means you'll have to stick around for at least 40 min before it goes off.
[18:46] Geysers resemble a chamber that get filled with water,
[18:50] and as soon as it fills to the brink,
[18:53] water start to boil and erupts as follows...
[19:01] I was waiting for 50 minutes!
[19:03] The difference between Icelandic geysers is apparent,
[19:07] as those are much more explosive and abrupt...
[19:11] Like so...
[19:16] These on the other hand are much slower,
[19:18] but last longer...
[19:20] Girls prefer NZ geysers!
[19:23] Apart from other typically Icelandic things,
[19:26] NZ boasts a couple of unique stuff too!
[19:28] First, is this beautiful lake called Champagne Pool.
[19:32] It's not filled with champagne unfortunately,
[19:35] and carries the name due its bubbling water,
[19:38] resembling champagne in a way.
[19:40] This is where similarities end though,
[19:42] as the temperature in this pool is 74c,
[19:44] and I doubt you'll be keen to try it.
[19:47] Now let me show you the pinnacle of it all...
[19:50] *no photo correction added
[19:54] This is a real acid lake, with a PH rating of 11.
[19:59] Not a 100% acid but it's very close!
[20:02] I am sure this would make a raver happy though)
[20:05] Once thing that I've noticed,
[20:07] is that once you see the geo-thermal springs,
[20:10] you will hardly ever be amazed by them again.
[20:13] It put me in awe, first time in Iceland,
[20:16] but now I am just not as impressed...
[20:19] Another interesting fact about New Zealand,
[20:22] is that it is home of the biggest volcano eruption,
[20:25] that happened in the past 70'000 years.
[20:28] As you may know of course,
[20:30] where there is eruption, there must be the trace.
[20:42] Lake Taupo was formed 27'000 years ago,
[20:45] as a result of a volcano eruption.
[20:47] The scale of it is clearly visible by this caldera,
[20:50] left as the aftermath of the eruption.
[20:53] Nevertheless, active ones still do exist in NZ...
[21:10] This time I won't make you pronounce
[21:12] the original Maori name of this volcano,
[21:15] as most of us know it as Mount Doom.
[21:18] that later became the prototype to the infamous
[21:20] Lord of the Rings volcano.
[21:22] The national park that serves home to it,
[21:25] is relatively deserted but very beautiful still.
[21:27] I decided to stay here for a night,
[21:30] and just look how beautiful it looked in the morning...
[21:45] As you know such places can keep me forever,
[21:48] but it's time for us to move on.
[21:52] As we get closer to the ferry,
[21:55] let me delve into the local entertainment.
[21:58] NZ is one of the world capitals for extreme sports,
[22:01] encompassing everything you can ever imagine or think of.
[22:06] Rafting, paragliding, kite-surfing,
[22:09] the country is filled with bikes,
[22:11] and has one of the best mountain bike trails.
[22:14] I, on the other hand, want to concentrate on two things...
[22:17] First, are the speed boats,
[22:19] extremely agile and quick motor boats,
[22:21] that race around narrow rivers at pace,
[22:23] that would make you beg for a dose of Xanax.
[22:26] You've been warned, people!
[22:55] If you are a less extreme type of person,
[22:57] there is other pretty speedy stuff too,
[22:59] the Blokarts!
[23:01] It's like windsurfing but on the ground.
[23:03] Best part about it, is that any age is fine here...
[23:22] I do understand these guys...
[23:24] Since the ocean is so very far (20km away),
[23:27] why bother, when you can ride next to your house...)
[23:32] By now, we have done over 1200km across NZ,
[23:36] reaching its the edge of the Northern island,
[23:39] the city of Wellington.
[23:42] It is the most Southern capital in the world,
[23:45] but to call it a capital would be a bit of a stretch.
[23:49] Although there is definitely a specific charm to it.
[24:02] In short, Wellington is a city of coffee places,
[24:04] best flat white, museum of hyper realistic wax sculptures,
[24:08] a city full of dogs and incredibly strong wind.
[24:26] I was meant to meet up with some guys who live here,
[24:29] but since we didn't manage to meet,
[24:31] I'd like to introduce you to Denis,
[24:33] who I met back in Auckland.
[24:35] Denis is from Irkutsk, Russia,
[24:37] but has been living in NZ for quite long now.
[24:40] I was keen to find out why people move here...
[24:43] - [Anton] Why did you move here?
[24:45] - [D] Many of those who come from first world countries,
[24:49] - come for the work / life balance.
[24:51] - There are lots of people here from US and Europe,
[24:54] - They come here to enjoy life...
[24:57] - Hence it's not just those from developing coutries,
[25:00] - that consider NZ their new home.
[25:02] - It is important to everyone to have a healthy balance
[25:06] - between their professional and personal lives.
[25:09] - This in my opinion
[25:11] - is why people consciously go for New Zealand.
[25:14] - I am talking about those who move in,
[25:16] - because it is their decision.
[25:18] - It's an immigrants' country,
[25:20] - and main difference if you migrated 300 years ago or yesterday.
[25:24] Dan knows quite a lot about local way of life,
[25:27] and he even has a YouTube channel on it,
[25:29] that you can find by following the link below.
[25:32] Morning.
[25:35] It's 6.30am and I am at Wellington's ferry terminal,
[25:38] on my way to the Southern Island.
[26:20] 1.5 hours later
[26:53] Let's examine the boat, shall we?
[26:58] ...SHIP!
[27:00] The ferry has 10 decks, numerous lifts,
[27:03] a lounge and an observation deck,
[27:05] a shop, kid's play area and a cinema,
[27:08] couple of cafes and a restaurant,
[27:10] where I met this couple from Moscow.
[27:14] Still, it is on the open deck,
[27:16] where the interesting happens.
[27:30] As we get closer,
[27:32] beautiful sights start coming at you from all directions,
[27:34] camera just doesn't shut down,
[27:36] you start filming every single bit of it...
[27:38] and then...
[27:39] THIS HAPPENS!
[27:44] Ouch battery is dead...
[27:46] Not a big deal though!
[27:56] He definitely has a bigger one...
[27:59] Hello South Island!
[28:10] Welcome to NZ's second island!
[28:12] It is bigger than the previous one,
[28:15] it is less populated and apparently it is much more beautiful too!
[28:18] We begin in the Marlborough region,
[28:20] a place packed with vineyards where apparently
[28:22] the best sauvignon blanc in the world is made.
[28:30] I think most of you've heard of the wine called Marlborough Sun,
[28:36] ...this is where it is made guys!
[28:41] It is March now,
[28:42] which means that it is beginning of autumn in this hemisphere.
[28:46] This is why we can excuse the burnt sceneries,
[28:49] that serve as a remainder of the blazing summer sun,
[28:52] but it is further down,
[28:54] when a completely new NZ came upon me.
[28:58] I am finally seeing the same New Zealand,
[29:01] that I always saw in pictures!
[29:05] ...and this is what I saw!
[29:48] A hundred kilometers even further,
[29:50] and the picture changed again,
[29:52] now resembling Iceland even more....
[29:55] ...whilst the roads, well...
[29:57] they are just stellar and deserve a separate episode.
[30:08] By the time I reached a 2000km mark,
[30:10] it became absolutely clear why Peter Jackson
[30:13] selected NZ for Lord of the Rings.
[30:15] This country is one big film set,
[30:18] that has everything you may never need,
[30:21] including the funky public,
[30:23] that you can come across in most random places.
[30:37] Turns out these guys are here for a festival,
[30:39] but tourists also dress up for no exact reason.
[30:44] Cars are pretty funny too...
[30:53] NZ pesters with bright mailboxes,
[30:56] that are all mostly one of kind.
[30:57] It's like a national sport where your neighbours
[31:00] are your main competition in who's got a better one.
[31:07] After clocking another hundred kilometres,
[31:09] I reached the main mountainous region of the country.
[31:12] These are so called Southern Alps.
[31:33] Tekapo is a glacier lake with an extremely clear water.
[31:37] So clear, that it's bed can be seen from bird's eye view.
[31:48] Clear waters are typical for NZ,
[31:51] also home to the most clearest lake in the world.
[31:55] The lake is based in Park Nelson,
[31:57] and has a clarity of 80m,
[32:00] just try to come to terms with it now!
[32:03] 80 METRES!
[32:05] Still, I am here not only to chill by the lake...
[32:08] as this place is also called the Night Sky Reserve,
[32:11] meant to be a perfect place to star gaze.
[32:16] According to the sky darkness scale,
[32:19] cities with a lot of light pollution are usually on 8-9,
[32:23] whilst this reserve is 2 or even 1 at times!
[32:26] It basically is the best place for night sight pics.
[32:30] It so happens that I love such photography,
[32:32] and I sincerely hope that conditions tonight
[32:35] will be perfect for it,
[32:37] preliminary heading
[32:39] to a large local camping by the lake for a night.
[32:43] By the looks of it,
[32:45] NZ is a very popular place among camping tourists.
[32:49] People here love their camper vans!
[32:59] I think it's time to show off my camper too,
[33:02] that comes with its own secret inside.
[33:07] ...because you always have to be prepared!
[33:10] I carried this tent all across Australia and NZ,
[33:13] and I can finally make full use of it!
[33:17] The time has come!
[33:21] Eco Police
[33:29] Imma freaking pro!
[33:30] The only thing left now,
[33:32] is to find a perfect photo spot!
[33:34] There is an observatory on top of the hill,
[33:37] where I was planning to set my photo spot at.
[33:40] But, both observatory and all the trails leading to it
[33:43] turn out to be locked out for the night...
[33:46] Well, here are the pictures I managed to take...
[33:50] This is the sky above Tekapo Lake.
[33:58] What's interesting,
[34:00] is that since we are in the southern Hemisphere,
[34:03] there are no little and great bear constellations.
[34:06] The sky here is very different to what we see in Europe,
[34:10] with different stars like Sirius and Southern Cross.
[34:20] Turned out that local fauna also loves the night sky,
[34:24] like this opossum that managed to climb even higher than me...
[34:29] reluctantly observing the surroundings.
[34:33] Sunrise above the lake was just astonishing!
[34:41] Juuuust look at this!
[34:51] Next morning brought good weather,
[34:54] giving me a chance to show you the observatory
[34:57] that I couldn't climb last night.
[35:09] Do you see those mountains in the background?
[35:13] They are my next target!
[35:19] There are no high mountains in NZ,
[35:21] and most of them are below 4000m.
[35:25] Still, this didn't stop a local New Zealander,
[35:27] to become the first man to conquer Everest,
[35:30] which is now a true national pride.
[35:32] This guy is even pictured on the local banknotes!
[35:34] Mount Cook, otherwise known as Aoraki
[35:37] is the highest mountain of the country.
[35:40] ...and it is sacred of course!
[36:02] What makes New Zealand unique,
[36:05] is the diversity of extremely beautiful sights,
[36:10] in turn making it very hard to match.
[36:13] Everything you may ever want to see as a traveller,
[36:16] is accessible within one single country,
[36:18] and this is definitely something one of a kind.
[36:21] I could have opted for a plane tour of Mount Cook,
[36:24] but I simply didn't have enough time for it.
[36:27] In just 6 days I have done over 2.5k kilometres,
[36:30] slept for maximum 3-4 hours, booked hotels during refuelling,
[36:34] and ate mostly at petrol stations.
[36:36] Yep,
[36:37] I just don't have time to eat anywhere else,
[36:40] and an occasional Subway serves as an utter bliss.
[36:43] There is simply no time for anything at all.
[36:46] Moreover I just didn't bring any food with me.
[36:49] I have no cereal, no nuts, nothing!
[36:52] The pace I set to myself, turned out to be over the top,
[36:56] and this country deserves otherwise!
[36:59] It has to be examined slowly and heard attentively!
[37:39] Time to move on guys!
[37:41] Welcome to the cult place of all extreme lovers.
[37:45] The AJ Hackett bungy centre.
[37:47] It became the first commercial bungy centre in the world,
[37:50] running since early 80s.
[37:53] Visitors come here from all over the world,
[37:56] to jump 40m down towards the Waikato River,
[38:00] and today I will do something
[38:02] that I ran from over my extensive TV career,
[38:05] and meet face to face with my fears!
[38:09] ...the biggest fear of my life!
[38:26] F&*K this!
[38:34] 5.30am on the clock,
[38:36] my last day in New Zealand,
[38:38] and I'm heading to the main attraction of this country...
[38:46] We'll see it from water, not the ground,
[38:49] hence we must change,
[38:51] pass quick instructions,
[38:58] and off we go to the kayaks!
[39:00] Main thing is not to forget your paddle!
[39:04] Now we are ready!
[39:30] Kayak is probably the most emotional way
[39:32] to see the NZ's main sight attraction.
[39:35] You feel absolutely tiny next to these massive rocks,
[39:39] plus you can get close to them,
[39:41] see the waterfalls and feel the majesty of this place!
[40:07] ...and if you are very lucky,
[40:09] you'll be able to see more than that...
[40:15] Guys, it's the penguins!!!!
[40:18] First time I see penguins in their natural habitat,
[40:20] apart from Australia where they were chilling on the beach.
[40:24] Ridiculous!
[40:25] It was right next to us!
[40:48] My guide isn't too happy with me,
[40:50] as I am filming most of the time instead of paddling,
[40:53] hence I'll switch off for a bit...
[40:55] Kayaks weren't enough for me,
[40:57] so I took a boat ride to see this place once again!
[41:13] Milford Sound is the most popular fjord of NZ.
[41:17] These rocks rise over 1km above water
[41:21] and everything next to them seems miniscule.
[41:23] Boats and planes
[41:25] look like toys next to these massive rocks.
[41:28] that in turn...
[41:31] absolutely dominate the scenery.
[41:33] There are tens of waterfalls here,
[41:36] and more so, this place is the most humid in the world!
[41:40] It boasts more precipitation than the Amazon forests,
[41:44] and it's pure magic that it's not raining right now,
[41:47] which is usually a daily occurence.
[41:50] There is so much rain here,
[41:52] that even though this bay connects to the Tasman Sea,
[41:55] the first two metres of water are fresh!
[42:02] The depth of Milford Sound at times reaches 500m,
[42:05] meaning that even large ships can get close to the cliffs.
[42:09] ...and I got lucky again!
[42:19] These 4 dolphins aren't active right now,
[42:21] because they are sleeping...
[42:23] Actually 3 of them are,
[42:25] whilst the fourth one is on the look out.
[42:27] During sleep,
[42:29] one of dolphin's brain hemispheres remains active,
[42:31] thereby allowing it to emerge for some air.
[42:34] Nevertheless, dolphins aren't the only locals...
[42:59] Bye people!
[43:02] Best part about the excursion,
[43:05] is when the ship comes next to the waterfall...
[43:07] This specific one is around 150m high,
[43:10] and shooting becomes impossible,
[43:12] as you get soaking wet within seconds.
[43:14] ...including camera and the rest!
[43:19] This though, is the best move ever!
[43:22] Watch this!
[43:35] Yep,
[43:36] you can drink the waterfall water!
[43:54] Tastes like the waterfall water!
[44:09] There are just 4 fjord regions in the world,
[44:12] Norway, Chile, North America and NZ.
[44:16] I guess you now know why!
[44:18] To me, Milford Sound became the most beautiful place,
[44:21] that I saw and experienced in this country.
[44:24] This place is insane!
[44:25] I, for now, must return to the base!
[44:29] I simply don't know
[44:31] how to translate the scale of it all on video.
[44:34] These cliffs are truly immense!
[44:37] They overhang you like your parents when you behave bad.
[44:41] I have nothing but swear words in my head right now,
[44:45] as this is just too immense and grand!
[44:48] Never seen anything like it!
[44:50] I usually do drone shots in such places,
[44:54] but even that is useless here...
[44:57] You just won't be able to convey the scale of it,
[45:00] whilst to have any sort of result,
[45:03] you have to go at least a kilometre up,
[45:06] since these rocks are minimum 800m high.
[45:08] At first they don't look huge,
[45:10] but they are gigantic...
[45:13] Nothing I can do about it guys...
[45:16] You'll have to take my word,
[45:19] that this is just ming boggling!
[45:24] Wanted you to hear this place as it is just overly calm!
[45:30] I guess I could have travelled even further,
[45:33] but enough is enough sometimes.
[45:36] New Zealand is a travellers dream,
[45:39] because it comprises everything you ever wanted to see,
[45:42] in any of the countries around the globe!
[45:46] It's all packed within this small country...
[45:49] Beaches, volcanoes, mountains, ski resort, ocean,
[45:53] surfing, forests, it has it all,
[45:57] which makes this country absolutely incredible!
[46:01] Still, I encountered some issues...
[46:04] It's a personal problem of mine,
[46:06] since I didn't really plan well,
[46:08] expecting to cover it all within 7 or 8 days,
[46:11] just like I did in Iceland,
[46:13] where one week and 1500km were enough.
[46:18] New Zealand though is completely different,
[46:21] and it is best described by the signs on the roads.
[46:25] Didn't have time to shoot them,
[46:27] but here they are...
[46:29] Nz roads are indeed different,
[46:32] and require much more time than you anticipate.
[46:35] This then is a very precise definition of New Zealand.
[46:39] You just can't come and drive around all sights quickly.
[46:43] Everything is scattered,
[46:45] and this country is more for campers and backpackers,
[46:49] than for those who just want to race around some of the sights.
[46:52] It is for those
[46:54] who are ready to spend more than a day
[46:56] trekking the myriad of available trails.
[46:59] It's best to come here not for a week or two,
[47:02] but three or more,
[47:03] casually taking your time to enjoy the local nature.
[47:08] ...and its tourists of course!
[47:10] I'd say it's one of the most beautiful countries
[47:13] on our planet!
[47:15] Today, once I was done with the last location,
[47:18] I managed to eat in peace and actually enjoy my time!
[47:25] My lesson here,
[47:26] is to allow yourself time to relax and enjoy the surroundings!
[47:31] You should do it too,
[47:33] because it is definitely worth it!
[47:36] Visit New Zealand!
[47:38] Let's get that heli!
[47:43] I should have gone for heli excursion!
[47:51] I'm off, ladies are waiting for me!
[47:55] New Zealand
