# Is sin considered at the judgment seat of Christ?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwHr8FdSMfg

[00:00] Consider this morning, is sin considered at the Judgment of Christ?
[00:08] So in looking at the chart, we know that the end of the dispensation of Grace is what people commonly call The Rapture.
[00:15] What first Thessalonians 4 refers to as being caught up or the catching up.
[00:21] After the Rapture, the body of Christ goes through something called the Judgment seat of Christ, which is an evaluation of the believer's service in the body of Christ.
[00:34] This specific question we're going to consider this morning is whether sin is considered at the Judgment seat of Christ.
[00:43] Here are the three main areas we will cover this morning.
[00:45] One: the believer has forgiveness of sins and is delivered from God's Wrath.
[00:55] Two.
[01:01] Although Believers have been delivered from God's Wrath, they still face God's judgment.
[01:11] Three, although Believers have been delivered from God's Wrath, they can still experience condemnation, damnation, and shame.
[01:24] And so we'll explain each of those in detail.
[01:26] Let's start with the first section.
[01:30] The believer has forgiveness of sins and is delivered from God's Wrath.
[01:35] Get Romans 6 verse 23.
[01:42] Foreign.
[01:45] 6 23.
[01:47] For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
[01:56] The wages of sin, in other words, the compensation, the reward that is earned.
[02:02] For sin is said to be death.
[02:07] And what that verse is saying obviously is the lost do not have the forgiveness of sins obviously.
[02:13] And since they do not have the forgiveness of sins, what they must therefore do is pay the penalty for their sins in hell.
[02:25] Get with me Revelation 20 verse 12.
[02:31] Revelation chapter 20 and verse 12.
[02:36] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life.
[02:45] And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
[02:56] People sometimes keep a journal.
[02:59] Sometimes people keep a more detailed journal than others.
[03:02] Sometimes they'll...
[03:03] Record, you know, sort of every day what they did that day.
[03:06] Well, in Heaven there is a journal of every act that a lost man has done.
[03:14] And what happens at the Great White Throne judgment is they're judged out of those books.
[03:19] And they're judged every man according to their works.
[03:24] So obviously that means that they're going to be judged according to their sins.
[03:27] Get with me, Romans chapter 2, verse 5.
[03:34] Romans 2 and verse 5.
[03:40] But after thy hardness and impenitent heart, now notice this, treasurist up unto thyself wrath.
[03:52] It's fascinating how Scripture words that what lost men do is they treasure up to themselves.
[03:59] So when you think of people treasuring up things, what do they normally treasure up?
[04:04] Money or gold or valuables or jewels, possessions right.
[04:10] In Romans 2:5, what do they treasure up unto themselves?
[04:14] Wrath.
[04:17] Well, how do they do that?
[04:17] They do that because they sin.
[04:20] And then they sin, and then they sin, and then they sin, and the end result of that is treasuring up wrath.
[04:26] Treasuring up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to every man according to his deeds.
[04:38] Well, that seems fair, doesn't it?
[04:40] If God renders to people according to their deeds, that's completely fair.
[04:45] It's awfully scary, though, isn't it?
[04:48] It's scary, though, because what happens if you sin and then sin again and sin, and you live a long time and you keep sinning?
[04:56] You're going to have to pay for those sins.
[04:57] Yet Ephesians 1, verse 7.
[05:01] So what we've seen so far is scripture.
[05:05] It is very clear that the lost have to give account for their sins.
[05:10] The wages of sin is death.
[05:12] They're going to pay for those sins in the Lake of Fire.
[05:17] It's very sobering.
[05:22] Ephesians 1 verse 7.
[05:28] In whom we have so in Christ we already have this.
[05:30] We have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace.
[05:38] Get Colossians 1 verse 14.
[05:43] As a believer, you already possess the forgiveness of sins.
[05:51] Colossians 1:14, in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.
[05:57] Get Colossians 2:13.
[06:04] And you, being dead in your sins.
[06:06] And the uncircumcision of your flesh hath he quickened together with him.
[06:11] Notice having forgiven you all trespasses.
[06:18] So you're not waiting to obtain forgiveness in the future; you already possess it if you have believed the gospel.
[06:25] Get first Thessalonians chapter 1 verse 10.
[06:36] And to wait for his son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus.
[06:47] Notice which delivered us, that's past tense, from the wrath to come.
[06:54] Get Romans 5 verse 8.
[06:57] Romans chapter 5 and verse 8.
[07:04] Romans 5 verse 8: But God commendeth his
[07:09] Love toward us.
[07:11] In that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
[07:16] Much more than being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
[07:25] So let's pull this all together.
[07:28] Obviously, the lost sin, and they have to give account for their sins.
[07:32] They treasure up unto themselves wrath because they sin and sin and sin, and they will ultimately be judged for those at the great white throne judgment when the books are opened.
[07:44] And as a result of that judgment, they will then pay for their sins in the lake of fire.
[07:49] But if you're saved today, then you already possess the forgiveness of sins.
[07:52] You're not waiting for it; you already have it.
[07:57] Your sins have been forgiven.
[07:59] You are already saved from wrath.
[08:02] And the reason why you're already saved from wrath is the moment that you believe the gospel, you were declared righteous in that.
[08:10] Moment you were justified, so do you need to fear God's wrath as a believer today?
[08:16] You do not.
[08:18] So that's point number one, hopefully that's familiar to you now.
[08:22] The reason why we wanted to cover that is when you consider the question of is sin considered at the judgment seat of Christ, we should start at the point of noticing that your sins have been forgiven, you're not going to suffer wrath for them.
[08:40] Although that is true, and it is true, is sin considered at the judgment seat of Christ?
[08:51] And I'm going to suggest to you that it is, point number two.
[08:57] Although believers have been delivered from God's wrath, they still face God's judgment.
[09:06] So have you been delivered from God's wrath as a believer?
[09:08] Yes, but is there a...
[09:11] Judgment that you face well there is get.
[09:14] Second Timothy chapter 4 verse 1.
[09:17] Second Timothy chapter 4 in verse 1.
[09:25] Second Timothy 4:1.
[09:28] I charge thee therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
[09:35] Now notice this who shall judge the quick and the dead.
[09:39] So who who are the quick?
[09:42] The living, right?
[09:44] Who shall judge the quick and the dead?
[09:46] Now notice this at his appearing and his kingdom.
[09:53] That verse describes two separate instances, two separate times of the Lord's Judgment of the quick and the dead.
[10:04] The first is at his appearing.
[10:06] What's his appearing?
[10:08] Well when does the Lord next appear?
[10:12] At the catching up the body of Christ so there's a judgment of the quick and the dead that occurs at his appearing.
[10:18] And then there's another one that occurs at his kingdom, and his kingdom comes at the second coming.
[10:25] So in Second Timothy 4 verse 1 is saying is that there is a judgment that takes place of the quick and the dead at the catching.
[10:33] Look at verse 8.
[10:36] Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.
[10:43] So was Paul going to receive a crown? Yes.
[10:45] Which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
[11:00] What's very clear from that passage is there's a judgment that occurs at the Lord's appearing, at the catching.
[11:07] It's a righteous judgment, and Paul talks about receiving a crown of righteousness.
[11:14] As a result of this judgment that takes place, people receive rewards or do not receive rewards.
[11:21] Get Romans 14 verse 10.
[11:26] Romans chapter 14.
[11:29] And verse 10.
[11:34] But why dost thou judge thy brother, or why dost thou set at nought thy brother?
[11:42] For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
[11:47] So what percentage of believers stand before the judgment seat of Christ?
[11:52] All right.
[11:53] And I realize that people want to make that go away.
[11:58] They want to make that go away because what is our nature?
[12:04] Do we like being accountable?
[12:08] No, we don't.
[12:11] Human nature is not that way.
[12:11] Human nature doesn't like accountability.
[12:14] And so people would like to explain it away,
[12:17] but verse 10 is awfully clear, isn't it?
[12:19] For we shall all stand before the Judgment seat of Christ.
[12:22] Verse 11.
[12:24] For it is written, as I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
[12:33] Verse 12.
[12:36] So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
[12:44] So what happens at the Judgment seat of Christ is there is an accounting that takes place for every member of the body of Christ.
[12:53] Get First Corinthians chapter 4 and verse 3.
[12:57] First Corinthians chapter 4 and verse three.
[13:06] But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you or of man's judgment.
[13:17] Yea, I judge not mine own self.
[13:20] For I know nothing by myself, yet am I not hereby justified.
[13:27] But he that judgeth me is the Lord.
[13:32] So Paul's specifically saying that the Lord is going to judge him.
[13:37] Look with me at First Corinthians chapter 4, verse 5.
[13:43] Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the councils of the hearts.
[14:01] And then shall every man have praise of God.
[14:07] Now verse 5 is a very helpful verse in understanding the judgment seat of Christ.
[14:12] Do you see how it says there, who will bring to light the hidden things of darkness?
[14:16] Some will say that the judgment seat of
[14:19] Christ is only about how accurate your Doctrine is.
[14:24] In other words, it's an evaluation simply of what you believe.
[14:29] Some will say the Judgment seat of Christ is only about your good works.
[14:35] It's only about the things you have done that please the Lord.
[14:40] But is that true?
[14:42] So verse 5 refers to hidden things of darkness.
[14:47] Is that good Doctrine?
[14:48] Is that good works?
[14:50] Or is that obviously something that's bad?
[14:52] If it's hidden things of Darkness, it's obvious that it's talking about things that we do that are not so great.
[15:00] It's not a reference to Good Works.
[15:03] Get with me Romans 2:15.
[15:11] Romans chapter 2 and verse 15.
[15:19] which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing Witness.
[15:29] Now notice this, and their thoughts the meanwhile accusing or else excusing one another.
[15:42] Now verse 15 describes the inner thought process that takes place within man.
[15:50] You know what we do to people that we don't like?
[15:55] We accuse them.
[15:58] Did you see what he did?
[16:00] Can you believe he did that?
[16:02] That was a terrible thing to do.
[16:03] What do we do with our own behavior?
[16:10] Excuse it.
[16:12] It wasn't really my fault.
[16:14] Well, here's why that happened.
[16:17] You can't blame me.
[16:17] And what we're very, very good at.
[16:20] Is the self-rationalization business right?
[16:24] And if you've lived with humans for I don't know 12 seconds, you know that that's true.
[16:32] The reason why people want to make the Judgment seat of Christ solely about your doctrine or solely about your good works is what they're doing is they're doing Romans 2:15.
[16:45] They're finding excuses for their behavior; they are finding ways to avoid accountability.
[16:54] And it's just it's not reality.
[16:58] You're better off get Second Corinthians 5 verse 10.
[17:01] You are always better off accepting the truth for what it is than pretending that something else is true.
[17:12] We do a lot of pretend; we do a lot of things that are wishful thinking.
[17:17] The whole idea of getting away...
[17:20] Getting rid of the Judgment seat of Christ, that's just the wishful thinking of the guilty, that's all that it is.
[17:27] When they take surveys, and this is always amazing to me, but they'll take surveys of the American public and they'll say, how what percentage of the people believe in hell?
[17:37] And it's always there's a significant percentage that doesn't believe in hell.
[17:42] So first of all, does that change anything?
[17:45] I mean, if I don't believe in gravity and I jump off a ladder, and so I don't believe in gravity, so what, right?
[17:53] I mean, it doesn't, it's not going to change any, I mean gravity exists and operates irrespective of my belief.
[17:59] Well, same thing is true with hell obviously.
[18:01] But what people do, it's the wishful thinking of the guilty, they find reasons to want to explain things away.
[18:10] Look at me at Second Corinthians 5 verse 10.
[18:13] For we must all appear before the Judgment seat of Christ.
[18:19] Is there any way to get around that?
[18:20] The we includes Paul, right?
[18:23] If if you're writing a letter, you're the author, and you say we, it includes you, right?
[18:31] It includes the author.
[18:33] I mean, that's just the nature of if I stand up here and say we, I am including myself in that group, right?
[18:38] That's just the way that pronouns work.
[18:42] So Paul includes himself and says, for we must all appear before the Judgment seat of Christ.
[18:48] There's absolutely no doubt that's going to happen, and anything else is just make believe, it's just pretend.
[18:55] Now notice what it then says, that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done.
[19:06] Now notice this, whether it be good or bad.
[19:10] So is sin considered at the Judgment seat of Christ?
[19:15] I mean, it says whether it be good or bad.
[19:17] Are you going to tell me?
[19:20] I mean, it's just more than obvious, right?
[19:22] Specifically says the things done.
[19:26] In other words, the actions, the thoughts.
[19:28] The words, the deeds.
[19:30] They're all evaluated at the Judgment seat of Christ.
[19:32] Now what happens is people don't like that.
[19:37] And here's why they don't like that.
[19:39] Because as nice and presentable as they are on Sunday morning, and we can clean up nice and oh how good to see you today and be polite and all that.
[19:55] What do we all know about ourselves?
[19:55] We know about what First Corinthians 4:5 calls the hidden things of darkness.
[20:02] We know about the sins in our life, right?
[20:04] We know about the things done in this body.
[20:09] And that's why it's man's sin nature would love to explain that away.
[20:14] Would love for us not to have to give account for that.
[20:18] But of course the fact of the matter is that we're going to.
[20:22] I'll say one more thing on this so it
[20:25] talks about see where it says according
[20:26] that he hath done
[20:29] that everyone may receive
[20:32] the things done in his body
[20:35] according to that he hath done
[20:37] whether it be good or bad
[20:40] so it talks about the things done in his
[20:42] body and it talks about whether it be
[20:43] good or bad
[20:46] I'll share this just because I think
[20:47] it's interesting
[20:49] when you explain the concept of sin to a
[20:54] child
[20:54] how do you typically say it
[20:57] do you ever do bad things
[21:00] because sin sort of has a it's a
[21:01] theological term right it has a specific
[21:03] meaning and so you want to explain it
[21:05] clearly so what is sin well sin is
[21:08] bad things and that's the the verbiage
[21:10] that's often used well that's exactly
[21:12] what second Corinthians 5 10 that's the
[21:15] verbage there right the things
[21:18] done in his body including whether it be
[21:21] good or bad
[21:23] okay so what does this tell us
[21:26] it is beyond clear
[21:29] that the believer faces the Lord's
[21:32] Judgment at the Judgment seat of Christ
[21:33] I mean doesn't the Judgment seat of
[21:35] Christ have to involve judgment I mean
[21:38] right
[21:40] and the believer must give account for
[21:43] what we have done including bad things
[21:46] which is sin right the bad things done
[21:49] in this body obviously are sin
[21:52] now to clarify does that mean we are in
[21:55] danger of hell
[21:58] we can't be in danger of hell because
[22:00] we've been delivered from Wrath
[22:02] we can't be in danger of hell because we
[22:04] have received forgiveness of sins we
[22:06] can't be in danger of hell because we're
[22:07] accepted in the Beloved in other words
[22:09] there's there's dozens of verses that
[22:12] tell you that as a Believer you do not
[22:14] have to fear hell because that issue has
[22:17] been resolved
[22:20] even though that is true
[22:22] do we nonetheless
[22:25] have to give account for the things done
[22:27] in his body and the answer is we do
[22:31] so that leads us to point number three
[22:35] although believers
[22:38] have been delivered from God's Wrath
[22:43] we can still experience condemnation
[22:47] damnation and shame
[22:51] now you say wait a minute
[22:53] how can a Believer experience damnation
[22:56] how can a Believer experience
[22:59] condemnation
[23:01] we've been lit delivered from wrath so
[23:03] how can we experience those things
[23:05] get with me Romans 8 verse 1.
[23:10] Romans chapter 8
[23:12] and verse 1.
[23:22] Romans 8 1.
[23:25] there is therefore now no condemnation
[23:29] to them which are in Christ Jesus
[23:32] you say well that just contradicts
[23:34] everything you said Dave
[23:36] let's read it carefully
[23:38] there is therefore now no condemnation
[23:41] to them which are in Christ Jesus
[23:44] notice
[23:46] who walk not after the flesh but after
[23:49] the spirit
[23:52] modern versions will leave out the last
[23:55] part of that verse you see where it says
[23:56] who walk not after the flesh but after
[23:58] the spirit modern versions will take
[24:00] that out
[24:01] obviously it's important to leave it in
[24:04] what that verse is saying is there is no
[24:08] condemnation
[24:10] to those who are in Christ
[24:13] that walk after the spirit
[24:16] but if you are in Christ
[24:18] and you walk after the flesh
[24:21] there is condemnation
[24:24] look with me at first Timothy 3 verse 6.
[24:28] now you may say well I'm not sure about
[24:31] that okay well just stay with me for a
[24:33] minute
[24:34] First Timothy 3 and let's start we'll
[24:37] start in verse one before we look at
[24:39] verse 6.
[24:40] this is a true saying
[24:42] if a man desired the office of a bishop
[24:45] he desireth a good work a bishop then
[24:48] must be blameless the husband of one
[24:50] wife Vigilant and so on
[24:52] go down to verse 6. so what we're
[24:54] looking at in verse 6.
[24:57] is we're looking at the required
[25:00] qualifications of a bishop
[25:04] now notice what verse 6 says
[25:07] not a novice
[25:09] so it can't be someone young in the
[25:11] faith
[25:12] last being lifted up with pride
[25:16] he fall into the condemnation of the
[25:20] devil
[25:22] now as verse 6 talking about save people
[25:24] or lost people
[25:27] it has to be saved I mean one of the
[25:29] qualifications to be a bishop is you
[25:31] need to be saved right in other words if
[25:33] your church is looking for a new pastor
[25:34] one of the first things you should check
[25:35] off the list
[25:37] is that the person is saved right
[25:39] obviously so when when we're in verse
[25:42] six
[25:44] and it's talking about lifted up with
[25:46] pride he fall into the condemnation of
[25:48] the devil that's a saved person
[25:50] can a saved person
[25:52] fall into the condemnation of the devil
[25:54] the answer is yes that's that's what the
[25:56] verse is plainly saying so can a saved
[25:59] person suffer condemnation
[26:03] yes now it's not punishment in the Lake
[26:05] of Fire okay it's not that but is it a
[26:08] form of condemnation
[26:11] yes according to that verse it is look
[26:13] with me at Titus 3 verse 10.
[26:18] Titus Chapter 3
[26:21] and verse
[26:22] 10.
[26:25] a man that is in heretic
[26:28] after the first and second admonition
[26:32] reject
[26:35] knowing that he that is such
[26:38] is subverted
[26:41] and sineth
[26:43] this is a saved person here now notice
[26:46] being condemned of himself
[26:51] can a saved person experience
[26:53] condemnation
[26:55] and clearly he can
[26:59] let's just talk with this just for a
[27:01] minute a man that is in heretic so this
[27:03] is someone that is preaching heresy
[27:06] causing division through false Doctrine
[27:08] after the first and second admonition
[27:11] reject and the idea there is you give
[27:13] them an admonition you give them an
[27:15] instruction to depart from their heresy
[27:18] you give them a first admonition a
[27:20] second admonition what do you do at that
[27:21] point
[27:23] you reject them
[27:25] why do you do that knowing that he that
[27:28] is such is subverted and sinneth so his
[27:31] false Doctrine a victimless crime
[27:35] apparently not it's a sin and it says
[27:39] they're being condemned of himself look
[27:41] with me at second Timothy 2 15.
[27:46] second Timothy 2 15 is is a a very
[27:50] well-known verse it's one of the
[27:52] clearest verses in scripture as to the
[27:55] need to rightly divide the word of Truth
[27:59] I think it actually is greatly
[28:02] misunderstood as to its main purpose or
[28:05] main meaning
[28:07] second Timothy 2 15.
[28:09] study to show thyself approved unto God
[28:13] so this is a command
[28:15] it's it's written to the recipient it's
[28:18] the understood you study to show thyself
[28:21] approved unto God and the idea there is
[28:24] you can't simply go by what people tell
[28:27] you you need to study it on your own
[28:30] study to show thyself approved unto God
[28:32] now notice what it says a Workman that
[28:36] needeth not to be
[28:39] ashamed
[28:40] rightly dividing the word of Truth
[28:44] in First Corinthians 3.
[28:47] Paul talks about he's a wise master
[28:49] builder he laid the foundation another
[28:52] buildeth thereon
[28:54] when he says he's the wise master
[28:56] builder it's very similar to saying he
[28:59] is the architect
[29:01] he has laid out the plans for how things
[29:04] should be built and then every man gets
[29:07] to choose number one where he builds
[29:09] right because you could build on a
[29:10] different Foundation First Corinthians 3
[29:12] says the only foundation is Jesus Christ
[29:14] so you could build on a different
[29:15] Foundation if you want well guess what
[29:17] happens if you build upon a different
[29:18] Foundation
[29:20] it's worthless right
[29:22] now let's say you build upon the
[29:24] foundation of Christ you get to choose
[29:26] your building material gold silver
[29:28] precious stones wood hay or stubble and
[29:31] what's it going to be tested by
[29:33] fire so does it matter how you build
[29:37] it does
[29:40] second Timothy 2 15.
[29:43] is a verse about the Judgment seat of
[29:47] Christ and people being ashamed at the
[29:51] Judgment seat of Christ because they did
[29:54] not build properly
[29:56] do you see how II 215 says a Workman
[29:59] what does a Workman do
[30:01] he works
[30:03] right
[30:04] it doesn't say management
[30:07] it says a worker right
[30:10] well have you ever seen someone do work
[30:13] that was outstanding and have you ever
[30:15] seen people do work that was shoddy
[30:18] and it just needed to be ripped out and
[30:20] redone and it was done poorly and with
[30:22] the wrong materials well with the
[30:24] Judgment seat of Christ is is it's an
[30:26] evaluation of workmanship
[30:30] whether your ministry was conducted
[30:32] according to the scriptures when it
[30:34] talks about some having wood hay stubble
[30:37] the idea there is
[30:38] their their Ministry their work was not
[30:43] performed in line with the word of God
[30:48] so second Timothy 2 15 can a Believer be
[30:53] ashamed
[30:56] at the Judgment seat of Christ and the
[30:57] answer is yes I mean imagine showing up
[31:00] the Judgment seat of Christ
[31:02] and here's your life work as a saved
[31:05] person
[31:06] and it's this elaborate wood carving
[31:11] and the Lord says well
[31:13] you know that's great but
[31:15] it has to be tested by fire
[31:18] and so I really wish you would have
[31:20] built with inflammable materials
[31:23] because
[31:25] what's going to happen it's just going
[31:27] to all be
[31:28] consumed
[31:32] people
[31:34] sometimes think that
[31:38] the Judgment seat of Christ is a
[31:42] I don't think they realize how serious
[31:46] and sobering an event it is when
[31:49] scripture talks about being ashamed that
[31:52] that's going to be something that that
[31:53] no one will will relish
[31:55] and so we need to take things seriously
[31:58] now one more thing on second Timothy 2
[32:00] 15 before we move on
[32:02] when it says they're working that
[32:03] needeth not to be ashamed
[32:04] that's talking about the Judgment seat
[32:06] of Christ it's not talking about in this
[32:07] life are there lots of people that
[32:09] wrongly divide the word of Truth and
[32:11] have no shame in this life
[32:13] there's ton of it
[32:15] but the Judgment seat of Christ is going
[32:17] to be different
[32:18] again with me Romans 13 verse 2.
[32:21] Romans 13 verse 2.
[32:26] Romans 13 2.
[32:29] whosoever therefore resisteth the power
[32:32] resisteth resisteth the ordinance of God
[32:36] and they that resist shall receive to
[32:40] themselves
[32:42] damnation
[32:44] now that's not the damnation of Hell a
[32:47] Believer doesn't go to hell for
[32:48] resisting the powers that be
[32:51] but is there a receiving of damnation
[32:54] according to that verse there is get
[32:57] Romans 14 22.
[33:01] Romans 14 22 hast thou Faith have it to
[33:06] thyself before God happy is he that
[33:10] condemneth
[33:12] not himself
[33:14] in that thing which he alloweth
[33:17] in matters of faith and judgment you can
[33:21] condemn yourself in things that you
[33:23] allow
[33:24] again that's not how
[33:27] but is it condemnation
[33:30] if the verses mean what they say it's
[33:31] condemnation verse 23
[33:34] and he that doubteth
[33:36] is damned if he eat because he eateth
[33:41] not a faith for whatsoever is not of
[33:43] faith is sin so let me say a word about
[33:45] this
[33:47] Paul talks in First Corinthians 8 about
[33:49] meat sacrifice to Idols whether you
[33:52] should eat it or whether you should not
[33:53] he talks about an idol being nothing in
[33:55] this world
[33:56] so since an idol is nothing in this
[33:59] world if you eat meat sacrifice to Idols
[34:01] did anything bad happen to you was that
[34:04] meat somehow made contaminated and now
[34:06] you're going to get sick
[34:08] no because an idol is nothing and so
[34:10] food meat sacrifice to an idol nothing
[34:13] happens to it physically or chemically
[34:15] to cause it to be impures when you eat
[34:17] it nothing happens
[34:20] but
[34:22] if your conscience
[34:24] if your conviction tells you don't eat
[34:27] that
[34:28] and you can't eat it by faith but then
[34:31] you eat it
[34:33] you have done something wrong
[34:36] in acting against your conscience even
[34:39] though there was nothing physically
[34:40] wrong with the meat
[34:42] you follow me
[34:43] I'll give you another example
[34:46] so I see this pen laying out
[34:49] and
[34:51] I think it's Jim's pen
[34:54] and I say you know what
[34:56] I'm going to take Jim's pen this is a
[34:58] nice pen I'm going to take this for
[35:00] myself
[35:02] now
[35:03] actually it was my pen
[35:06] I just was confused
[35:09] so in legal terms did I commit a crime
[35:12] no because I can't steal my own pen
[35:14] right if it's my pen and I'm confused
[35:18] about it and I take it I haven't
[35:19] committed a crime
[35:21] but
[35:23] did I act against faith
[35:26] did I did I act mentally wrongfully yes
[35:28] I did well that's the idea of what's
[35:30] going on here with with uh meat
[35:33] sacrifice to Idols if if your your
[35:36] conviction if you're if your faith your
[35:38] understanding tells you not to do it
[35:41] and you do it
[35:43] you've acted wrongfully that's why it
[35:45] says there in verse 23
[35:47] and he that doubteth so he doesn't
[35:49] believe he can do it
[35:51] is damned if he eat now is that
[35:54] damnation hell no it's not hell but is
[35:57] it nonetheless condemnation of the
[35:59] believer's service yes it would be a bad
[36:02] thing done in the body get First
[36:03] Corinthians 11 29 bad thing done in his
[36:06] body First Corinthians 11 29
[36:10] . now this passage is about the Lord's
[36:11] Supper
[36:13] for he that eateth and drinketh
[36:15] unworthily
[36:18] Edith and drinketh Damnation to himself
[36:23] not Discerning the Lord's body
[36:25] what was going on in Corinth when they
[36:27] were observing the Lord's Supper they
[36:28] were doing so in a way that was
[36:30] irreverent and and just disgraceful and
[36:34] so when they did that they were eating
[36:37] and drinking
[36:38] damnation to themselves again not the
[36:42] loss of salvation
[36:43] but a form of damnation nonetheless
[36:47] verse 34.
[36:50] and if any man hunger let him eat at
[36:53] home that ye come not together unto
[36:57] condemnation and the rest will I set in
[37:01] order when I come what that verse is
[37:03] saying when the Corinthians would get
[37:04] together they would get together unto
[37:07] condemnation in the sense they would get
[37:09] together to observe the Lord's supper
[37:10] and it was irreverent and unspiritual
[37:13] and disgraceful and the Lord looked at
[37:15] and said there's no way I approve that
[37:17] right it's just it's just misbehavior
[37:20] and so it's described in verse 34 as
[37:25] condemnation get first Timothy 5 verse
[37:28] 11.
[37:30] First Timothy 5 verse 11.
[37:38] First Timothy 5 verse 11 but the younger
[37:42] widows refuse for when they have begun
[37:45] to wax wanton against Christ they will
[37:47] marry
[37:48] verse 12.
[37:50] having damn Nation
[37:54] because they have cast off their first
[37:56] faith
[37:58] obviously that is not damnation of Hell
[38:01] God does not
[38:02] damn a widow for remarrying
[38:07] its damnation in the sense that they
[38:09] have cast off their first Faith so let's
[38:12] tie this together
[38:15] the believer has forgiveness of sins
[38:18] the believer has been delivered from
[38:20] God's Wrath there is no wrath that a
[38:22] Believer can face period the end
[38:26] but although Believers have been
[38:28] delivered from God's Wrath they still
[38:31] face God's judgment the Judgment seat of
[38:33] Christ is about judgment and everyone
[38:36] has to give account of themselves to God
[38:38] for the things done in his body whether
[38:40] they be good or bad
[38:44] although Believers have been delivered
[38:46] from Wrath they can still experience and
[38:49] I wanted to show you the verses with the
[38:51] words condemnation
[38:53] damnation and shame
[38:57] now it's not that condemnation damnation
[38:59] and shame of the Lake of Fire it's not
[39:01] that and it's not condemnation damnation
[39:03] and shame of God's Wrath it's not that
[39:07] but what it is at least is this
[39:12] have you ever worked hard on an
[39:14] assignment did you ever have a project
[39:15] in school where you worked really really
[39:18] hard and you turned it in and the
[39:21] teacher gave you feedback and said
[39:24] this is just terrible
[39:27] you really need to redo it this is just
[39:29] you just did a terrible job
[39:32] and so you worked and you put effort
[39:34] into it
[39:36] and you feel
[39:37] shame
[39:39] you feel disappointment you feel like
[39:40] well that's
[39:42] that's really
[39:44] hurtful because I I spent all that time
[39:46] in it
[39:47] and it's of no value
[39:51] perhaps you've had the experience where
[39:52] there'll be something at work and you
[39:54] work hard on it work hard on it and then
[39:56] it gets broken it's not done right and
[39:59] it's of no value
[40:01] well that's that's
[40:04] experience the condemnation
[40:07] the disapproval of your work
[40:11] and that's exactly what's going to
[40:13] happen to some at the Judgment seat of
[40:15] Christ
[40:17] get with me first Timothy 5 24.
[40:20] there's just three more verses I want to
[40:22] show you and we'll conclude
[40:23] for First Timothy 5 24 it's really three
[40:27] passages
[40:28] some men's sins are open beforehand
[40:33] going before to judgment
[40:36] and some men they follow after
[40:39] are there some crimes in this life that
[40:41] are obvious
[40:42] yes
[40:44] are there some others
[40:47] where they're concealed
[40:49] you don't know about them
[40:51] there's a lot of those aren't there
[40:54] that's what it's saying likewise also
[40:56] the good works of some are manifest
[40:57] beforehand and they that are otherwise
[41:00] cannot be hidden
[41:02] are there things that people get away
[41:05] with in this life
[41:07] and there sure are
[41:10] but do they ultimately get away with it
[41:12] no they don't
[41:14] get Galatians 6 verse 7.
[41:17] Galatians 6.
[41:19] and verse
[41:21] 7.
[41:24] be not deceived
[41:27] God is Not mocked
[41:31] for whatsoever a man soweth that shall
[41:34] he also reap
[41:36] for he that soweth to his flesh shall of
[41:40] the flesh reap corruption but he that
[41:44] soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit
[41:47] reap life Everlasting
[41:50] the idea of verse 7 is that God is Not
[41:53] mocked
[41:56] in other words
[41:59] we have to give account for for what we
[42:01] do that's just the reality of it God is
[42:04] our creator he is our judge now no saved
[42:07] person is going to go to hell but do we
[42:10] have to give account Romans 14 12 was
[42:12] clear on that
[42:13] and then it says for he that soweth to
[42:15] his flesh shall love the flesh reap
[42:17] corruption what happens if I as a saved
[42:20] person sow to the flesh
[42:24] well there's a consequence to it
[42:26] the verse is clear if I sow to the flesh
[42:28] what do I reap
[42:30] I reap corruption
[42:32] Colossians 3 24 will close with with
[42:34] this
[42:36] Colossians chapter 3 and verse 24.
[42:43] knowing that of the Lord ye shall
[42:47] receive
[42:48] the reward of the inheritance
[42:52] so you will receive from the Lord
[42:55] a reward
[42:57] for your service
[42:59] for ye serve the Lord Jesus Christ now
[43:02] notice verse 25 but he that doeth wrong
[43:07] oh that's sin isn't it amidst the things
[43:09] we're doing that are displeasing to the
[43:10] Lord shall receive for the wrong which
[43:13] he hath done and there is no respect of
[43:18] persons
[43:20] well verse 25 is clear isn't it
[43:23] do we have to give account for the wrong
[43:26] things that we have done the answer to
[43:28] that is yes so returning to our original
[43:31] question is sin considered at the
[43:35] Judgment seat of Christ the answer is
[43:37] yes it is we're not going to face wrath
[43:40] in the Lake of Fire we're accepted in
[43:42] the Beloved but does it it does it
[43:45] impact
[43:47] does it affect
[43:49] how our service in the body of Christ is
[43:52] evaluated
[43:54] yes it does
[43:55] and it's best for us to to understand
[43:58] that and to act accordingly
[44:02] let's close the word of Prayer
[44:04] father God we just rejoice in your grace
[44:06] we rejoice in your goodness help us to
[44:10] understand these truths and help us to
[44:13] walk after the spirit
[44:15] we pray these things in the name of the
[44:17] Lord Jesus Christ amen
