# How to Code BMW Laser Headlights with BimmerCode (Step-byStep Guide)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF2M8ttyfOY

[00:00] Hey, what's going on everybody?
[00:01] It's your boy James from What's Show Forte and it is hot today.
[00:02] 100° down here in Charlotte.
[00:05] So, I wanted to bring you guys this quick video, all right?
[00:06] So, I'm going to be coding in laser lights in my X5 M50i.
[00:11] From factory, the US cars they have it disabled.
[00:15] They also call it anti-dazzle.
[00:17] But, they have it disabled from factory.
[00:19] So, I'm going to show you how to code it in using BimmerCode.
[00:21] All right, let's get to it.
[00:23] All right.
[00:25] So, what you need first is you need a BimmerCode license.
[00:27] So, you're going to go out to the App Store, go get the BimmerCode license.
[00:29] BimmerCode works on Android and it also works on iOS.
[00:33] Then, you're going to need some type of cords or something to connect to it.
[00:37] I like using my tablet cuz I can disconnect my tablet.
[00:39] My tablet isn't connected to my car.
[00:41] You don't want CarPlay set up or anything like that while you're trying to do code.
[00:44] You don't want anything to be able to interrupt your device.
[00:47] So, I like using my tablet here.
[00:49] So, you can use your phone to do it, but just make sure that you're not connected to CarPlay, Bluetooth, or nothing.
[00:54] All right?
[00:56] So,
[01:00] I'm going to go ahead and share my screen on my tablet so you guys can follow along with exactly what I'm doing, all right?
[01:07] So, you want to make sure that like I said, everything's cut off on your tablet.
[01:09] It's not connected to the internet or anything.
[01:11] It's plugged into your OBD port.
[01:13] I like using ENET to lightning and using this adapter, which is like right here.
[01:19] So, it's a lightning adapter, ENET to lightning adapter.
[01:21] Plug right in so you can get like a direct super fast connection, all right?
[01:24] So, you can see right now I'm on the BimmerCode uh home screen here.
[01:30] So, I'm just going to hit connect.
[01:33] Um I also like to um put the car in diagnostic mode if I can.
[01:39] So, you do that by hitting the start stop button three times.
[01:44] Sorry, I'm be wiping, man.
[01:44] It's It's hot in here, man.
[01:45] So, it'll say diagnostic mode active on your screen there.
[01:48] Then, once you get in there it says select your OBD adapter.
[01:52] We're using the ENET cable.
[01:54] Hit connect.
[01:55] And then you'll choose your vehicle.
[01:56] If this doesn't pop up to choose your vehicle, your connection may be a little off.
[01:59] So, just
[02:01] Unplug everything, start over.
[02:03] All right, choose my vehicle, BMW X5, hit continue.
[02:06] And then it should identify all the control units that you need.
[02:13] Then it takes a little while just to load everything up so you can code, all right?
[02:17] All right.
[02:17] So, now that we are in the control units page in BimmerCode, what we're going to do is you'll need to go to the body domain controller, all right?
[02:27] So, in order to be able to do this coding for the laser lights, you will need uh to go in expert mode, all right?
[02:34] Expert mode can scare some people, but if you know exactly where you're going to and what you can do, it's not that bad, all right?
[02:39] So, we have everything here where you can code in different ambient lighting and doors, windows, and all that.
[02:45] But, we're going to go to expert mode.
[02:46] So, I'm going to go to backups just to make sure it does have a backup for today's date, which is July 4th.
[02:52] Happy Independence Day.
[02:54] Um so, we're good to go there.
[02:56] So, we're going to go into expert mode.
[02:59] It gives you a warning, "Expert mode advanced functionality, but can"
[03:04] Cause some issues, blah blah blah, blah, enter at your own risk.
[03:07] You do have to accept that, so we're going to accept it.
[03:10] Then it has all of these different controllers, right?
[03:13] So, now what we're going to do is I'm pulling these instructions from the BimmerPost uh page.
[03:19] Um I will be putting that up right now so you can see the exact instructions.
[03:22] So, if you want to screenshot this, then you'll have it as well.
[03:23] I did pull it from BimmerPost page.
[03:25] I did do this also on my X5M, so that's how I know it works.
[03:28] Um but, yeah.
[03:31] So, what we're going to do is go to control unit.
[03:33] First control unit is going to be 3530.
[03:38] So, let's find 3530.
[03:42] Looks like it's in numerical order, so it makes it a little easy.
[03:43] 3530, which is law master one.
[03:48] So, we'll click on that.
[03:49] And then we're going to go down to look FLC forward lighting.
[03:56] Look FLC forward lighting Y forward lighting Y.
[04:03] So we're going to click on that.
[04:05] And it says change to F AFS cuz it's no AFS.
[04:09] So we're going to change to AFS.
[04:11] All right.
[04:11] So we're going to go back.
[04:14] Then we're going to go to another control unit which is 3531.
[04:20] 3531 which is law master 2.
[04:27] Then we're going to go to C AFS inner.
[04:40] There it is.
[04:42] And then we're going to change to enable.
[04:45] Which is right there.
[04:47] Then we're going to go back and then we're going to go to 3532 law master 3.
[04:51] 3532 law master 3 and we're going to go to CHBA GFHB.
[05:01] C HBA.
[05:05] CHBA.
[05:07] GFHB.
[05:09] ENA which is right there.
[05:12] And then we're going to change that to enable.
[05:15] And then he says that's it.
[05:16] All right.
[05:18] So we're going to go back.
[05:19] Back back and then we're going to hit code.
[05:21] All right.
[05:22] And it gives you this warning before you code.
[05:24] You want to make sure your engine is off.
[05:25] Make sure all my lights off.
[05:26] My lights were on but I cut cut them off.
[05:29] Parking brake is applied.
[05:31] Everything, you know, it's just telling you we don't want to interrupt this cuz if you interrupt it it can cause you some issues.
[05:36] So now we're going to hit start coding.
[05:41] Super fast.
[05:42] Y'all saw just how fast it was.
[05:44] You'll hear some warning lights and some other stuff going on.
[05:46] Don't worry about it.
[05:48] It's okay.
[05:49] Don't touch anything in your car while it's coding till it tells you it's complete.
[05:58] Going to wait there.
[06:00] Coding successful.
[06:01] The coding for this control unit is successful.
[06:02] All right.
[06:04] So, it says it's successful.
[06:05] So, we're good to go there.
[06:06] All right.
[06:08] So, I'm going to go ahead and disconnect from the car.
[06:10] I like to always just cut my car off.
[06:15] And then just cut it back on just to make sure there's no codes or anything, no lights, no check engine lights, nothing like that is on the car.
[06:20] Everything is looking good.
[06:22] So, now what I'm going to do is um I do plan to look at some fireworks and go over a cookout tonight.
[06:27] So, I'm going to bring my camera with me.
[06:29] So, when we go home from that, it should be dark enough and I'm going to see if we can catch the laser lights moving cuz I know when I did it before, you can kind of see the lights moving and shifting and doing all kinds of stuff.
[06:39] It looks kind of crazy.
[06:41] But, um I'm going to bring my camera.
[06:42] We'll have the camera gear with us.
[06:44] So, now after this, you got to be able to see how it works in real time, all right?
[06:46] So, let's get All right, everyone.
[06:52] So, what's going on now that you have the laser lights coded, you can kind of see on my dash there that it is saying that the high beams are on.
[07:03] But, if you look out in front of me, the high beams are not really on.
[07:07] But, what it's doing is the high beams are on on this side, but on this side of the road, it still has it low.
[07:13] So, that's something that the laser lights does that it recognizes what area is really dark and then it's going to shine the beams there.
[07:20] So, even though it says right there the high beams are on, they're not really on fully.
[07:24] They're on at an adjusted level.
[07:26] So, I'm going to pass the camera over to my wife so she can kind of show you there.
[07:32] So, when I move around this car, they should adjust, I would think.
[07:35] Let these motorcycles by.
[07:42] All right.
[07:44] Right.
[07:45] So, you can I saw the light adjust on the back of that car, and now the high beams have cut off.
[07:53] And the lights swiveled and adjusted around that car that was on the right side there.
[07:56] So, they're definitely moving around, recognizing what's on the road, and then giving you the best light output from the lights.
[08:03] So, definitely definitely uh much needed.
[08:08] Upgrade.
[08:08] And I don't know why we didn't have these activated in America, but they're here now.
[08:14] And now the high beams are back on, and I'm getting a high beam on the right-hand side of the road, but regular beam on the left-hand side, a lower left beam on the left-hand side.
[08:23] So, this is something that doesn't normally happen before the coding.
[08:26] Before the coding, it just would have been a regular low beam with all these cars around and lights around.
[08:28] But now, when you code in the laser lights, you're going to get the high beam, and it's going to give you the high beam in the dark part of the road.
[08:34] So, you always have the best visibility.
[08:38] So, this is the much needed, definite nice upgrade that you can do and code with BimmerCode.
[08:46] All right.
[08:46] So, I'm trying to grab you guys some more footage just to see if we can catch it.
[08:49] You might be able to see the lights moving a little bit.
[09:00] I can kind of see it shift down.
[09:04] Then it should Yep, I saw it push back out on the right-hand side.
[09:08] If I can play it back in the video, I'll.
[09:09] Try to do that right now so you guys can kind of see.
[09:13] But I definitely saw the light move in and down, and then move back around when the car passed.
[09:17] So, it's definitely working.
[09:19] It's definitely doing what it's supposed to do, which I'm happy about.
[09:22] [snorts]
[09:22] Definitely gives you a lot more lighting at night, too.
[09:24] So, which is a good thing.
[09:30] All right, here's another car.
[09:31] The lights moved away.
[09:33] As soon as these cars pass, you should see the lights readjust back up into the wide.
[09:37] Yep.
[09:39] Cool.
[09:41] Yeah, man.
[09:41] So, that's the laser lights, man.
[09:44] Definitely working.
[09:45] Definitely well worth it.
[09:46] Super easy to code.
[09:47] I recommend everyone that has the laser lights do it.
[09:49] It's well worth it, man.
[09:51] All right, everyone.
[09:52] So, I just showed you guys how to code the laser lights and exactly how they work.
[09:56] I hope this video was very helpful for you guys.
[09:59] If you have any questions, put them in the comments down below.
[10:02] The laser lights definitely give you a little bit more light on the road and definitely help you, especially if you're not in a well-lit area.
[10:09] All right.
[10:10] So, hopefully you were able to.
[10:11] See the benefit.
[10:13] And if you have any questions, again, like I said, put them in the comments below, man.
[10:16] Thank you for watching this video and I'll holler at you guys later.
[10:18] Peace.
[10:22] [music]
