  开始吧，我们的第一组短语：长话短说、联系、快速推进和回头再谈。

[01:46] Kind of think about these a little bit if you've heard them before, if you're trying to remember what they mean.
  如果你以前听过这些短语，或者正试图回忆它们的意思，不妨稍微思考一下。

[01:52] All of these verbs, all of these are verb phrases, so you can use them as verbs, actions, or activities.
  所有这些动词，都是动词短语，所以你可以把它们用作动词、动作或活动。

[01:59] So let's start with number one: keep it brief.
  那么让我们从第一个开始：长话短说。

[02:01] Keep it brief, which means we're going to keep the conversation or keep...
  长话短说，意思是我们要保持对话简洁或保持……

[02:07] The topic brief and this means that we're going to make them short simple and to the point right nothing extra we don't need to add in all these extra words phrases sentences we're going to keep it brief.

  也许我们周一启动了一个项目，现在过了两天，让我们touch base。

[02:51] Did you make a lot of progress? Are things going well? Have you hit any problems?
  你取得了很多进展吗？事情进展顺利吗？你遇到什么问题了吗？

  所以我们要加快速度，让它进行得更快。

[03:54] From the UK, my accent is a bit different, I'd say Fast Track.
  从英国来说，我的口音有点不同，我会说快速通道。

[15:49] But is that what it means in the US? That's completely the opposite in the US.
  但在美国是这个意思吗？在美国完全相反。

[15:52] So if an American is talking and we say, "Let's table that for now," then we are not going to talk about it, right?
  所以如果一个美国人在说话，我们说“暂时搁置”，那么我们就不讨论它了，对吧？

[15:59] So I have no idea that in England it means to start talking about it, and in the US it means to stop talking about it or to talk about it another time.
  所以我完全不知道在英国它意味着开始讨论，而在美国它意味着停止讨论或改天再讨论。

[16:10] So it's just kind of interesting that that's kind of how it went.
  所以这挺有意思的，事情就是这样。

[16:14] All right, and our final phrase for this group is "to take it offline."
  好了，我们这组的最后一个短语是“离线讨论”。

[16:20] Now, "to take it offline" is similar to tabling the discussion, but it's also a polite way to say, "Okay, I understand what you're talking about; I do think it's important."
  现在，“离线讨论”类似于搁置讨论，但它也是一种礼貌的说法，意思是“好的，我理解你在说什么；我确实认为这很重要。”

[16:32] But let's not talk about it right now.
  但我们先不谈这个。

[16:35] So what it's kind of become in most situations is a way to say okay that's enough of that.
  所以在大多数情况下，它变成了一种说“好了，够了”的方式。

[16:43] Um, not right now, just not right now, now not now.
  嗯，不是现在，就是不是现在，现在不行。

[16:46] Let's take that — it genuinely is a very polite way to say that okay.
  我们接受这一点——这确实是一种非常礼貌的表达方式。

[16:53] So if I could say, um, if I'm maybe talking about too many details or something so specific just to my team and my group, it's not important for the meeting.
  所以如果我说，嗯，也许我讲了太多细节或某些只针对我团队和小组的具体内容，这对会议来说并不重要。

[17:03] We could say, uh, let's take this offline and discuss it later so we can stay on track.
  我们可以说，呃，我们私下讨论这个，稍后再谈，这样我们就能保持正轨。

[17:08] Here, let's take this offline and discuss it later so we can stay on track here.
  这里，我们私下讨论这个，稍后再谈，这样我们就能保持正轨。

[17:14] Get very polite way to keep the discussion going and yeah focus on the main details.
  这是一种非常礼貌的方式，让讨论继续下去，并且专注于主要细节。

[17:20] So I know we said that British and American has a difference between table the discussion.
  所以我知道我们说过英式英语和美式英语在“搁置讨论”上有区别。

[17:26] We'll give you the dialogue now and we'll use the American meaning because that is generally the more popular meaning because American.
  我们现在给你对话，我们会用美式含义，因为那通常是更流行的含义，因为美式英语。

[17:33] Usually the Universal Business language.
  通常是通用商业语言。

[17:36] So this is the third dialogue.
  所以这是第三段对话。

[17:38] Thanks for joining, Kim.
  感谢你的参与，Kim。

[17:41] Let's cut to the chase: how's the project looking?
  我们开门见山：项目进展如何？

[17:44] Overall, it's going well, I think.
  总体而言，我认为进展顺利。

[17:46] If we can continue to keep the big picture in mind, we'll be able to finish the first round this week.
  如果我们能继续牢记大局，我们就能在本周完成第一轮。

[17:52] Excellent, okay.
  太好了，好的。

[17:55] Uh, looking at the agenda, let's table the discussion on a few minor details and focus on the key issues for today.
  呃，看一下议程，我们先把一些次要细节的讨论搁置，专注于今天的关键问题。

[18:01] Perfect.
  完美。

[18:04] Uh, if anyone wants to get into specifics, we can take it offline after this meeting.
  呃，如果有人想深入细节，我们可以在这次会议后私下讨论。

[18:08] What I kind of like about this phrase 'we can take it offline' is you say it in person, which is kind of funny.
  我有点喜欢这个短语“我们私下讨论”的地方在于，你是在当面说它，这有点好笑。

[18:12] Because I guess it probably started with online meetings: 'let's take this offline'.
  因为我想它可能始于在线会议：“我们把这个拿到线下讨论”。

[18:17] But uh, we do say it in day-to-day meetings to a person: 'what do you take this offline?'
  但是呃，我们在日常会议中确实会对一个人说：“你把这个私下讨论是什么意思？”

[18:25] We're real people, we're not online right now.
  我们是真实的人，我们现在并不在线。

[18:30] Imagine you're in a Zoom call or something: 'take offline' — it sounds like...
  想象你在一个Zoom通话或类似场景中：“私下讨论”——听起来像是……

[18:34] We're going to go over to like the water cooler or go to the break room and talk about in there.
  我们打算走到饮水机那边，或者去休息室，在那里聊一聊。

[18:41] Over here here you'll come over to my desk like and physically see me about it.
  在这里，你会走到我的办公桌旁，当面跟我谈这件事。

[18:48] Yeah, so let's go over these phrases once more.
  是的，那我们再复习一遍这些短语。

[18:52] Let's cut to the chase.
  我们开门见山吧。

[18:56] Let's keep the big picture in mind.
  我们要牢记大局。

[19:00] Let's table the discussion on that.
  我们先把那个讨论搁置一下。

[19:02] We can take it offline.
  我们可以私下再谈。

[19:17] All right, next is the fourth and final group.
  好了，接下来是第四组，也是最后一组。

[19:20] The four phrases in this one are check in, low hanging fruit, in a nutshell, wrap up.
  这一组的四个短语是：check in、low hanging fruit、in a nutshell、wrap up。

[19:29] So maybe some of those are new for you, maybe you've heard them before and you're rolling your eyes with lwh.
  所以，也许其中一些对你来说是新的，也许你以前听过，然后对lwh翻白眼。

[19:35] Hanging fruit because some of them are a bit cliche used too much but they are real phrases so we'll go through to prepare you just in case.
  唾手可得的东西，因为其中一些有点陈词滥调，用得太多，但它们是真实的短语，所以我们会过一遍，以防万一。

[19:43] The first one is check in.
  第一个是check in。

[19:45] Check in this could be a verb or a noun.
  Check in可以是动词或名词。

[19:49] You can schedule a checkin.
  你可以安排一次checkin。

[19:52] A checkin is a meeting where everyone meets and shares updates on their progress.
  Checkin是一个会议，大家聚在一起分享各自进展的更新。

[19:58] So you might have a checkin in the morning to see what happened or a check-in at the end of the day so everyone can share what they have achieved that day.
  所以你可以在早上开个checkin看看发生了什么，或者在一天结束时开个checkin，这样每个人都可以分享他们当天取得的成就。

[20:06] You can also use it as a verb.
  你也可以把它用作动词。

[20:09] I want to check in that means I want to see your progress I want to hear any updates you've made.
  我想check in，那意味着我想看看你的进展，我想听听你做的任何更新。

[20:15] So this one's quite flexible.
  所以这个用法相当灵活。

[20:18] As an example sentence let's do a quick check in to see where everyone is on their tasks.
  举个例子，让我们快速开个checkin，看看每个人在任务上的进展。

[20:31] All right so this is probably our most cliche phrase in the entire bit uh.
  好了，这可能是我们整个片段中最陈词滥调的短语了。

[20:37] lwh hanging fruit I even remember 10 or

[20:41] 12 years ago when I was talking to a

[20:42] friend about business English and

[20:44] general she said we're already tired of

[20:46] this phrase so even 10 years ago they

[20:48] were tired of this phrase so loow

[20:51] hanging fruit is a quick or an easy win

[20:54] okay it's a quick and easy task you just

[20:58] do it and you win you get it all right

[21:00] and so lwh hanging fruit think of you

[21:03] know an apple tree and the lwh hanging

[21:06] fruit you just go up you pick the apple

[21:08] and you're done you don't have to climb

[21:09] the tree you don't have to move the

[21:11] leaves over you can just grab it so loow

[21:14] hanging fruit can be a bit cliche but I

[21:17] think it depends on the way that you're

[21:18] using it if you're using it in a way to

[21:21] talk about people or clients or

[21:23] customers it's probably not the nicest

[21:25] way to talk about people also it means

[21:28] that you have to put very much effort in

[21:30] so it makes you look a little lazy

[21:32] sometimes too but sometimes you just

[21:35] need a few quick wins sometimes we say

[21:38] quick wins or easy wins and you can

[21:41] accomplish those quickly so let's focus

[21:43] on the lwh hanging fruit first to make

[21:45] quick

[21:46] progress let's focus on the lwh hanging

[21:49] fruit first to make quick

[21:51] progress again there's a difference in

[21:53] our

[21:54] pronunciation yeah in the UK

[21:57] progress MH so I have progress and

[22:01] process right I've got progress and

[22:05] process interesting all right next one

[22:08] third phrase is in a

[22:10] nutshell in a nutshell is quite a common

[22:13] phrase inside and outside of business

[22:15] but when you want to give a summary of

[22:18] something it's another way of saying

[22:20] basically or overall or ultimately in a

[22:25] nutshell I want to give you a quick

[22:27] summary of the most important and

[22:29] essential things there could be lots of

[22:32] different uh data statistics numbers

[22:35] going up and down but in a nutshell we

[22:38] need to make more money or in a nutshell

[22:42] profits are increasing despite a lot of

[22:45] other complicated factors if you want to

[22:47] uh break something down into its most

[22:49] simple you can say it in a nutshell this

[22:52] is a phrase don't change any of the

[22:55] words it's always in nutshell you can at

[22:58] the start of a sentence or at the end so

[23:01] in a nutshell these are the main points

[23:04] we need to

[23:06] address oh after everything else I

[23:08] talked about in a nutshell these are the

[23:11] main points we need to

[23:13] address all right and this is kind of

[23:16] fitting our very last phrase is to wrap

[23:19] something up wrap it up okay that means

[23:22] that we're going to bring something to a

[23:24] close we're going to finish something

[23:27] all right so it's a good way

[23:30] to finish those topics finish the

[23:33] discussion wrap it up and then end the

[23:36] meeting so let's wrap up and summarize

[23:39] the key

[23:41] takeaways it is funny if somebody was on

[23:43] a call and said okay let's finish I

[23:46] would say oh okay and then the screen

[23:48] would go black they would disappear they

[23:52] say okay let's wrap up I imagine we're

[23:54] going to take one or two minutes to

[23:57] double check everyone knows what to do

[24:00] okay bye-bye byebye and it will more

[24:02] slowly finish and give you a chance

[24:04] question that's a good point it's it's

[24:06] like okay uh okay now I finished talking

[24:08] about this uh this needs to be finished

[24:11] okay we're done with this and okay then

[24:13] we're finally done all wrapped

[24:15] up okay so our final dialogue is going

[24:18] to discuss these last four Hi Sam just

[24:22] wanted to do a quick check in on the new

[24:23] product launch can you give me an

[24:26] update sure thing uh in a nutshell we've

[24:29] taken care of the lwh hanging fruit like

[24:31] setting up the marketing materials now

[24:33] we're focusing on the more complex

[24:36] tasks great to hear um anything else

[24:39] before we wrap

[24:40] up uh no that's all for now I'll keep

[24:43] you posted as we make more progress all

[24:46] right so before we wrap up let's go

[24:48] through the key phrases one more time

[24:51] just wanted to do a quick

[24:54] checkin in a

[24:56] nutshell we've taken care of the lwh

[24:59] hanging

[25:01] fruit anything else before we wrap up

[25:05] just wanted to do a quick check

[25:07] in in a

[25:10] nutshell we've taken care of the lwh

[25:12] hanging

[25:13] fruit anything else before we wrap

[25:16] up all right that's all for today we
